What is inconvenience of the current Home button? I am using it on my iPad2 and notice no discomfort.

It's a light

If you look at the 3/4 view, I think it looks like it could light up! That is of course if it is a real Apple part and not some knock off.

It doesn't really matter to me what it looks like - I'm getting one!

I'm glad there's a healthy amount of sarcasm and deprecation on MacRumors; anything to remove the stereotype that we're all Apple fanboys.

"Ave! Bossa nova, similis bossa seneca"

Granted it's only a home button, this means we're getting closer to an iPhone launch! My iPhone 4 is getting long in the tooth, and a refresh will be a welcome change. :D

Fake! It has seams

Apple would never release a product with seams

Remember those members who cried and said they would never buy?

They bought lol

Go ahead and downvote, but an article immediately loses credibility with me when they call the 6th iPhone the "iPhone 5".

I'd have to say that the whole numbered naming scheme got messed up and in fact the upcoming iPhone could've been iPhone 4. Hear me out...original iPhone was technically #1. iPhone 3G was iPhone 2. The 3GS was iPhone 2s. The current "4" was iPhone 3. The 4s is iPhone 3s. And finally the upcoming iteration is iPhone 4. Plus, with the pattern of the "s" followup models, yes it's the 6th version of the phone, but not the 6th major iteration.

How can you break home button? It is quite sturdy.

Uh, not that sturdy as it is a common problem for it to wear out. I know my first one already showed signs of flakiness a few months after getting it. When it was starting to really get bad and I was close to the end of my warranty I decided to go ahead and just get it replaced rather than risk it stop working entirely (at that point there were times I almost thought it had finally broke only to get it to finally work).

Now I'm paranoid and use the accessability features to use a on screen home button to save wear and tear on the new phone's button (though to be fair it seemed to last longer than the old phone even before I discovered that feature).

Probably a problem of many defective buttons that wore out easily. Not all of them were bad but enough you see a lot of people with the problem.

I agree. Granted I game a lot on my phone so I'm one of the people who would find advantage in a faster processor but I find my phone is laggy a lot more often. Reminds me of my 3G the last half year or so before the 4 came out. Could handle the new OS but could use either more processor power or RAM to do it better. And the 4 didn't get a big processor bump and had a retina screen added requiring more processor so I think it's in a similar boat to the 3G (where the processor will not stay relevant to current software as long. The 3GS and 4S on the other hand had pretty good spec bumps so have lasted longer/will last longer).

My upgrade came up end of February but at this point I'd rather wait til the new phone (and hopefully they don't do something to ruin it, I do like the 4S as it pretty much addressed the few problems I had with my 4, storage space and processor speed) cause if I am going into a 2 year contract I'd like my phone to be a pretty new design (as in not almost a half year old). It's not like I need a new phone (yet). The 4 still will do what I want (I just wish smoother and it needs more resets sometimes to clear memory or gets really laggy on games).

Could it be the new ipod touch button ? And the new Iphone will no longer have home button ?

OBVIOUSLY the rounded square is below the surface, don't know why that's even up for debate.

Anyway i reckon it's for reliability reasons, the old home button design allowed gunk from fingers to fall under the button, this new one adds adequate shielding.

This alone is worth a upgrade, I have had to swap my 'iPhone 4' 5 times due to the button stealing gunk from my fingers. Still, don't understand why they need this button I think times need to change.

i definitely thing they did this to minimize the amount of dust and dirt getting trapped below causing the home button to not respond properly. Good call Apple, but I'm with everyone else, ditch the physical home button altogether! There's still the sleep button, that's all we need.

i just bought it, and by the time the iPhone is out I will have my own DIY phone made out of leaked parts. :D
