I call ********. Apple is all about building up a fever pitch and watching people wait in line. I don't see that changing in 2010.

Someone told me today that they'd heard a rumor of Apple delaying the actual release of the iPhone until around Christmas because of the leak. I tried to explain the whole deal about the contracts of the 3G buyers being up, plus the months of lost revenue that Apple and AT&T would surely face as people scoffed at the 3GS while waiting for the new iPhone to be released. Apple would never do something that stupid just because of a leak.

Why do they even have to wait a week?

We've all seen (via the fine, upstanding citizens at Gizmodo) that the new iphone is 100% complete and ready to go.

They should start selling them tomorrow!

The sooner the better. My 3G is slow (in comparison to 3GS), almost out of space, the screen leaves liquid crystal trails when turned off, the vibrator switch malfunctions and I just noticed a tear in my silicone case. I'm ready for a new one.

This would mean that there would be no third party software to support new native hardware features at launch, like the new cameras, higher resolution display, etc. Apple could allow these features available in the SDK before WWDC, but that would be VERY un-Apple like.

I wonder if Apple made the OS 4.0 event so randomly and quickly because they knew a prototype was lost and wanted to reveal the OS before whoever found it.

What was random about the 4.0 event? It was held around the same time as last year's, and announced about the same amount of time in advance. Not to mention that nothing about the new iPhone was discussed or hinted at during the event, just like last year.

Considering the reports on OS 4.0 Beta2 stability maybe they need a few weeks.

There's not going to be third party support for any of those things anyway, given that their development will require a phone that no one has until it goes on sale to the public.

Been there done that. That's what happened with the iPad and there were 1000 apps at launch. Only a handful of those apps were from 'elite' developers that had the hardware ahead of time.

Left hand - Right hand

Doh, don't we already know that: "Apple today announced that this year's Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) will take place from June 7th through 11th at San Francisco's Moscone West convention center." according to:

Bizarre??

If it IS out that soon, I hope it means OS 4.0 is out early too (at least for the new models if not for everyone). Otherwise it might have some interim 3.x OS to enable the higher res... but I want 4.0! :)

But, why? That will just mess up everything. The friday sale tradition, the weekend earnings, the global sales and releases! I think this article/story is just a plain hoax.

I doubt that they would release the new iPhone without the OS 4.0. That would be asking for trouble. Most firmware updates brick at least a small percentage of devices, small as it may be, for some odd reason or another. If it is on there to begin with, it will ensure that the phone is working properly.

As for the launch, I bet the announcement will come on the first day and then be released on Friday. Build the hype on Monday and never let it die down though Friday. They can drive it though the weekend and get press for selling a ton of phones. That will drive more hype and so on.

That's the ugliest (smart)phone I have ever seen. Epic Fail.
I still have a little hope that the lost iphone is just a rejected concept.

(Anyhow, I love my blackberry.)

there sure are a whole lot of experts in this thread with inside information.
