yes - with more time than 5 minutes. yes - page 2 shows some nice designs :) but they have similar problems no?

but - my point is that by using "multitouch" the screen can be bigger and maybe in combination with adjustable size of fonts etc it can be a viable solution. for ex. when hoovering with your finger the option increase in size - like the keyboard on the iphone...

come on you can do better then that...

look on page 2 for a much better touch nano concept;).

This mock-up wouldn't make any sense. The click wheel will be confusing to some when you rotate it to the left or right. The Prev/Next button would be vertical as supposed to horizontal and the Menu and Play/Pause button would be horizontal as supposed to vertical.
Click wheel with no words/icons on it?

Backlit click wheel with words/icons that change depending on orientation?

Wait, in aproximately 57 years, you'll be 55? Are you negative two?

i'm 18. I know this because my age is 10 years behind the number year. Hence, I was 5 in 1995, 15 in 2005, gonna be 25 in 2015 and so on. I was born in 1990.

not everyone here is a little kid chad.

Right, so in 2065 you'll be 75, not 55 as you said in your post. Nice ad hom, though.

A 1TB flash drive eh?
That'll be like in the year 2065.

So 1000GBs is called 1TB.
What do call 1000TBs?

Nah, a lot sooner than 2065. They exist now http://www.onboardsys.com/docs/SSR_trifold.pdf. They are just to big, heavy and expensive. You'll easily see 1TB small form factor flash drive within 10 years, maybe within 5.

why dont you go jump off the Fremont Bridge, and learn to treat people with respect. Hey, you could me mentioned on KATU while rod hill prances around on the green screen

Nice to meet you kettle.

Anyway, since flash is getting so cheap and people's library's aren't really growing exponentially like storage, would it be too crazy to see apple start pushing for lossless formats on the iPods instead of MP3. I know that you can already play lossless files on the iPod, but what if apple started selling it in the iTunes store, and set it as the default encoder in iTunes. I'd think that'd be a more interesting announcement this september than a zune-like iPod.

you wont get that good of sound unless you get some good headphones. I got a bose set, fits right in the ear for 95.99 and its MUCH BETTER then apples cheep stock headphones

No kidding. I have been using Shure headphones a long time.

why?

i actually preferred the 3G nano design over the tall form factor of the other generations. but i have a feeling that the big A is going to ditch the click wheel very soon. i think they might actually go for something like the trackpads on the mba or mbp.

Wow, a 1TB iPod.
That would... be effing amazing!
But unfortunately that probably won't happen until 2015.
Because first the need to do:
250GB Classic.
320GB Classic.
500GB Classic.
750GB Classic.
...................
Then comes the 1TB Classic.
And by then we'll probably have wifi on our clickwheel iPods, that's if the clickwheels are still around at that time.

Maybe not that long. The iPod Classics basically use notebook hard drives from Samsung (I believe) and the largest capacity drive Samsung sells now is 320GB so it is reasonable to assume a notebook 1TB hard drive much sooner than 2015. A 1TB flash drive by 2015 though?? :D

Hopefully the clickwheel iPods would be gone by the time a 1TB version is out. A touch based iPod with a hard drive as opposed to a flash drive certainly isn't out of the question. ;)

it certainly is. Apple didn't put a hard disk in the iPod touch for a reason. It'd be waaaaaaay too slow. There is no way that they could keep the OS X iPhone on a hard drive based touch iPod.

EDIT: and no, iPods don't use laptop drives. The drives in Apple laptops (except the Air) are 2.5 inch drives. The drives Ipods use are 1.8 inch drives. The Air is the only laptop using a 1.8 inch drive (and it really suffers from it)

how would you know? I seen people with a 250GB HD on their computer, over half that hard drive is filled up with music.

Do you not know what exponential means? I never said people don't have huge libraries (mine is a modest 50-80, spread across a few drives) I said libraries don't grow exponentially, but flash storage does. Soon enough flash capacities will be larger than 99% of all music/media libraries.

And the second part is a no brainer. The iPod drives are able to spin up to 4200 rpm, and Apple probably slows them down further to save battery life. I know for a fact that the data transfer rates of these drives is significantly less (waaaaaay less) than the transfer rates of flash memory used in iPods.

*could someone who knows these numbers please post them?*

ssd classic?

Anyone think it'll be viable for Apple to introduce, say, a 64gb classic with an ssd drive in it this time round? Or will we have to maybe wait another year or 2 for that??

Personally, i'd like cheaper touches, with more storage, for less. Not too bothered about new features. In the UK a 32gb touch is £330, and that is, frankly, preposterous. Needs to be £100 less at least before I open my wallet.

If not ill get the classic this time, as that in my opinion is the best iPod for the money at the moment.

And don't libraries usually grow linearly? Exponential increase will always overtake linear increase.

Maybe Mac will design a software that is as easy to use as Zune's too  Although I haven't used my Shuffle in quite some time I don't miss iTunes AT ALL. I purchased a Zune player for my significant other and can't believe how much easier the Zune software is to use. The features make sense are so much more intuitive compared to iTunes.

you know what would be cool. a limited touch nano.
basically thin version of ipod touch with the wheel behind the screen. so you don't need room for the wheel, its behind the screen. the only thing the touch screen would do is everything the wheel has.
