Why even bother with a slightly larger screen?

Nobody is really watching movies on these iPod nano's.
Even the larger nano screen is too small....

Something tells me that Apple isn't making a larger ultraportable device.... They make things smaller, or the same size but with more memory. That is the Apple way.

The current nano is cool,
i cant see a taller nano working with a click wheel it would be to fiddly constantly turning it landscape and portrait to view video/music.

as for the touch aspect thats what the ipod touch is for!

i can see a nano of the same ratio though larger (classic size screen) working with larger flash capacity and second gen colours

Maybe. But that doesn't mean they aren't trying to make a smaller macbook. ;)

It's arguable that the 3G nano is not smaller than it's 2G predecessor. It's short, but also fatter. The fatter version was needed for video. Form follows function. With video becoming as important as audio to iPods I don't think the nano is going to get smaller overall. Maybe in two dimensions, but not all three.

I have no idea why people are viewing this as negative.

I had a 1st Gen Nano but had to replace it because the battery could only hold about 45 mins / charge (I've used it a lot over 2+ years). I would have preferred a 2nd Gen Nano both for the form-factor as well as the older functionality (the skip/fast forward worked a lot better in older version of the iPod OS).

I ended up getting a 3rd Gen nano and I really should have just done the Apple battery replacement program. The 3G Nano is not comfortable to hold in the hand (esp. for skipping forward while using the device while driving (e.g. not looking at it, using "feel" only). I would much rather have a nano with the form factor shown in the news story.

What I really don't want is a touch nano. I need a clickwheel for use while driving, etc.

With the competition having small players such as below, I find it hard for Apple to keep using the clickwheel...

I see something like that replacing the nano perhaps. But isnt there an player by creative or something called the zen nano?

As for the shuffle, I see that phrasing out. I mean theres no much you can do for it besides add a screen, but I dobut apple will because its main purpose "shuffle" . They didt even do a major revamp just add new colors.

I perfer the new nano colors to the old 2ed gen colors. Bright neon just doesnt suit people expect those little 12 year olds who cry if yhey dont get what they want. Leave neon colors for the cases.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people like you on these boards absolutely rail against those of us who have HUGE music collections or WANT huge HDD portable devices so that we can rip to lossless formats & still carry our ENTIRE music collection with us. It's not your place to judge how/why people use their iPods. Period. Thank gawd Apple doesn't subscribe to your way of thinking. You sound like the nimrods who told us that we'd never need more than 200MBs of computer storage too...how'd that logic work out?

Agreed. I would prefer to rip my music lossless for the best possible sound quality. A terabyte iPod would be quite nice!

you wont get that good of sound unless you get some good headphones. I got a bose set, fits right in the ear for 95.99 and its MUCH BETTER then apples cheep stock headphones

I like your way of thinking. That may just be the case,

Are you sure its really that safe to be listening to an ipod while on a bike? You have to hear traffic and if a ambiance, fieetruck or police car is driving by

You dont have to use the apple ones you know ;)

People wanted video on the nano, so thats why they added it.... simple as that

Why would he need help? He likes music. He has a large collection. Most might have taken him 10-20 years to get. Just because you may only have 20 or so songs doesnt mean everyone does.

You call siting in a restrunt lobby a social situation. come on, not everyone goes up to people and talk.. you from the UK? sound like it

I agree 110%. a lot of people have music from CDs that gotten in the past 10-20 years so they decided to transfer it over to their computer, change the file up so it will be "digital like" and place it on their ipod. Plus a lot of people have video, audio podcasts, video podcasts pictures and more. Its not up to some friendless guy who never gotten laied to make our decesions. If someone has over 200GB worth of music, it doesnt mean they are the ones that need help. They could be rich or very popluar and throw partys with the music....

I really hate it when people tell me what i need and what I dont need.

Point is, its 2008 time to get with the times and those LED light up controls.

Not everyone, including my self wants to shuffle my music around. some want it with them at all times...

you really dont NEED an ipod now do you?

With me, I like to have everything with me. I may be in the mood for a certin song but I find out when I'm on the other side of the state that "oh s*** I forgot that song and I didnt bring my lappy" If you have a large HD why not use it :)

Thats the problem. some of us dont want to think what we will be felling like few hours or days from now. Just add a search featurte and you can find all your songs

you say you dont need anysize larger then 4G. it fits fine but you want more? doesnt make sence.

Theres someone with the attatude i like. great job :D

amen, amen

they are just scared they cant find all their songs. Just add a search feature in. there, you can find your songs and you can all stop cring.

Agreed... thanks

thats what it is. or its just some looner whith no friends and no girlfriend and is looking to make friends in the worng way.(starting fights and fake friends AKA online ones)

You try, doesnt mean you alwways do. You did come up with why do people need all this much storage. its just an general statement. Your post right here tells us that you arnt "tring" to stay on topic ;)

haha. and playlists dont cut it.

EXACTLY! plus like I said, on the larger ipods just add a search function. simple as that

Thats what they might do. but have an option in settings to turn it off to save power. though it wont kick off that much juice

huh?

This is awesome, you agreed and liked everything I said and suggested!
Woot!

Now I'm wondering if we should make another thread for HDD iPods.

Agreed. I would prefer to rip my music lossless for the best possible sound quality. A terabyte iPod would be quite nice!

Wow, a 1TB iPod.
That would... be effing amazing!
But unfortunately that probably won't happen until 2015.
Because first the need to do:
250GB Classic.
320GB Classic.
500GB Classic.
750GB Classic.
...................
Then comes the 1TB Classic.
And by then we'll probably have wifi on our clickwheel iPods, that's if the clickwheels are still around at that time.

a 1TB flash drive. :D

I'm 18 and that may not come till i have grandchildren, or may be even GREAT grandchildren...

acording to this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SI_prefix

Petabyte

A petabyte (derived from the SI prefix peta- ) is a unit of information or computer storage equal to one quadrillion bytes, or 1000 terabytes. It is commonly abbreviated PB. When used with byte multiples, the prefix may indicate a power of either 1000 or 1024, so the exact number may be either:

* 1,000,000,000,000,000 bytes — 10005, or 1015, or
* 1,125,899,906,842,624 bytes — 10245, or 250.

The term "pebibyte", using a binary prefix, has been proposed as an unambiguous reference to the latter value.

Touch and a click wheel?
nano_mockup.jpg

One needs to be tossed out...

in the nano, touch will be tossed out, clickwheel stays. it's a small device, if you want touch, you have ipod touch and that's it.

you won't be able to scroll throw artwork horizontally (with the ipod horizontal), maybe a vertical coverflow ;) or the classic way. it won't be thinner and i'd say it will be about an inch "taller".

overall i like the form factor of this mock-up, but again i'm concerned about the weight balance for the click wheel usability. let's hope this time apple solve that right. also, i'm praying for a full anodized aluminum case, and more SOLID colors available: yellow and orange are missing, so we can have all the 50s, 60s fridges colors! :D

and also hoping for a price drop, and storage increase. if my predictions are right, i'll buy one right away. ;)

just mt 2 cents
