What's the point because of the folding iPhone?

It'll be a LOT cheaper than said iPhone. I had one for a while before I upgraded to a Pro. But there was one thing the Mini did exceptionally well - and that was the form factor for reading books, magazines, etc. The Pro is a little large to fit in a pocket. A Wi-Fi only would work for me - especially if it had *one* more storage upgrade.

Yes a base model, with 256GB of flash and 16GB of lpddr5, for what will be, over 35 tops, of machine learning, in 2nm. Maybe it'd be able, to load Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot, maybe even some gddr7, at 18GHz. We know Apple are offering, M core base software, for others, to build their AIs on. Apple having, the most machine learning hardware, of any consumer base.

You might want to rethink your math - if you get the iPhone Max and an iPad mini, you will for sure be in the $1500-$1700 price range. At that point an iPhone Fold is not much of a stretch, especially on a three year carrier contract, and you can now live the one device life.

And PLEASE no "gimmicky" comments from the back bench folks - if you have not seen what is truly possible, get down to the store and check out the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 - with iOS 26 I'd be on top of it in a heartbeat.
I am fully in the foldable phone camp. At the same time, there are people who will not want a foldable phone, especially if they want to upgrade each device separately. It's okay to give people the option of a slab phone + ipad mini with stylus support.

This leaves a couple of possible options:
– A foldable iPhone
– A regular iPhone paired with an iPad mini

Personally, I’d rather carry a single device than juggle multiple ones.
I'm super keen to see an iPhone foldable but I also worry that I'll never get past the small crease in the screen 👀

Whilst I envision most of my use will be multi-tasking and other uses where the crease won't matter so much, I will be keen to also watch videos full screen too, and i'm not sure they'll ever get to the point where it doesn't stand out enough/distract.

Maybe the tech's already there? I haven't actually seen the latest foldables so probably should do that eh 🤦‍♂️

Also agree on ideally not wanting to carry multiple devices. Up until now I would've considered an iPad mini + a regular-size Pro iPhone whereas because I already had an 11" iPad Pro, I just went Pro Max because I don't carry my iPad everywhere with me.

Decisions, decisions.

THE CHIP ISN'T THE PROBLEM
🤬

Put a way better screen on there please!

It will get an OLED Screen to hopefully help with the jelly scrolling. Plus an 8.7 inch screen which is a slight upgrade from 8.3 inch

I would love to see an iPad mini with Face-ID, 9“ inch Screen and LCD Pro Motion Display.

Bigger screen, eh? Is the size expected to stay the same? I don’t want it get any bigger!

Rumors are saying 8.7 inch as per the link I sent you. I have heard 8.6 though but I think it’s because of the OLED Screen that it is happening but Apple will just reduce the bezels whilst keeping the Dimensions of the mini the same as the Mini 6/7.

It’s possible ( though this rumor has focused on the next gen Air) the Mini may get 90hz. I have heard this rumor for the Air dating back a year maybe two perhaps but this next version of the Mini is akin to the Mini 4 when it came to screen features. Mini 9 will get OLED, a screen size increase and maybe 90hz though 60hz OLED is great.

The Mini 4 is the last iPad Mini which feels like this. It had a laminated display, anti reflective coating, color gamut went to 100% from 60 something on the Mini 2/3 ( its Retina display color was buggy), sRGB, being lighter and Apple giving it a premium look ( because iPad Mini 1-3 was affordable besides the garbage that is the Mini 3). The Mini 4 was the first truly premium Mini and this Mini 8 feels so much like it

raise price to 699 and give it OLED, 120hz, M chip and thunderbolt please
The Thunderbolt Appreciation Society welcomes you 🍻

Nice and portable out and about and then when back at the desk, dock that sucker to a nice (ideally Thunderbolt) docking monitor or dock/monitor combo with keyboard and mouse... that'd be a pretty sweet setup 👍

(USB-C not too bad though if they don't stretch for Thunderbolt but surely everything now should be 'USB4/Thunderbolt' no?)

I would've so got the mini had there been a nice Logitech Combo Touch version for it.

I guess I fell victim to Apple's 'propaganda' 🤣 because I have an 11" Pro 🤦‍♂️

i also fell for the ipad air with the magic keyboard and it unfortunately has been collecting dust since i got the mini.

an ipad is best as a tablet. enough with the laptop cosplay.

there are too many cheap small tablet. Apple needs to reposition iPad mini to high end small tablet. Adding OLED and 120hz (and smaller bezel and thinner body) will be starting point.
Agree with this 100%. Apple should also add Face ID. Would be perfect.
