MagSafe 2 charging (the ones used on the MBP/MBA) would be great.

The phone MagSafe would be ok for enterprise applications, since you could charge a whole cart of iPads without having to plug anything in. That would be handy.

I’m still under the impression that the MagSafe rumored for iPad is more like what is found on Mac than iPhone.

iPhone is closer in size and mobility to an Apple Watch so it makes sense for those wireless chargers to be similar.

Especially with the Magic Keyboard and trackpad support, from a hardware perspective the iPad is more akin to a notebook.

I wouldn’t be shocked if we got MagSafe 3 on the iPad Pro. Whenever I’d hear the MagSafe rumors, I always thought the iPhone’s MagSafe didn’t make sense, but the MacBook’s MagSafe makes perfect sense.
I was thinking the same. Having a MacBook style MagSafe port would keep the USB port free to power and interface with external accessories. Wireless charging might not give enough to charge the iPad and power an external device.

Can we please have MagSafe 3, I’m tired of plugging every single device

I bought an M1 Pro 12.9 earlier this year… prob will be my last ipad as i think Vision Pro will replace most of its use cases eventually. I thought id wind up using the apple pencil to draw stuff a lot more at home but nope.

When I read the headline, the first thing I pictured in my head was a MagSafe 3 port like the MacBook line has. Not the iPhone MagSafe implementation.

As long as a glass back wouldn't make the iPad Pro any heavier than it already is, then I'm all for it. I'm also hoping they go with frosted glass to cut down on the number of fingerprints that are going to appear with the switch to a glass back.
I’d rather they keep the aluminum back as glass is too heavy, but they could add a glass or plastic “window” where the charging coils are to allow inductive charging. It would help highlight the right spot to place the charger.

I'm with others here, Mac MagSafe makes makes a lot more sense for the size of the device, rather than some wobbly puck attached to the back of an iPad.

They should take advantage of the Apple logo on the back, make it the size of the MacBook logo, add some Apple shaped magnets and allow it to charge from there. Most cases already have a window that displays the Apple logo.

That's all great, but 15 Watts is loose change for the 12.9 inch Pro. When the display is in full brightness and you've got FaceTime running the best it will do is prevent discharging.
MagSafe for iPad needs much more power than that.

Was thinking the other day how convenient it would be if MagSafe (or "Qi + alignment magnets) were an open spec. It's more convenient than charging by USB, more reliable than charging pads.

It is now, the Qi 2 spec is MagSafe as an open spec. It’s just that we’re only now starting to see Qi 2 chargers trickle in.

iPhone MagSafe would be too slow at charging an iPad.

I can imagine this being instead a MagSafe 3 connector. After all, if the iPad is used in a landscape orientation whilst charging, like a MacBook, then the whole purpose of MagSafe being a quick release mechanism makes sense. iPhone MagSafe on the back would offer little benefit whilst the iPad is in use.

just please make this thing on the back of the device, not on the side
having it on a desktop with a nasty cable sticking on the side of it is just bad design, especially for 13" version that is basically a stationary device
