Reverse wireless charging on an iPad is stupid. So you can charge your iPhone by not being able to use it or the iPad at the same time…how useful. You can currently wirelessly charge your iPad Pro by using the Magic Keyboard, powering it, then you can connect a usb c to lightning cord and charge your iPhone from the iPad Pro, while both devices are still usable.

They could have / should have added a MagSafe receiver to the Magic Keyboard case. No need to add glass to the iPad itself…let the case charge the iPad through the contacts on the smart connector.

I don’t believe any of this. A glass back is completely unnecessary on an iPad and adds nothing. Wireless charging doesn’t really make a lot of sense. They would have to create a magnetic charger the charges through a case as many people have some kind of case for iPad. However, the Magic Keyboard already has a charging port on it to charge the iPad. Could a magnetic charger even work through the Magic Keyboard? Finally, they aren’t getting rid of the port, at least on Air and Pro. I mean, they JUST started offering Thunderbolt on the Pros. Why get rid of it right after offering it?

Most likely this is a leak about a prototype, or perhaps they are considering a redesign of cheaper iPads. Either way I’ll believe it when I see it.

Just like what I thought, Apple is hating ports with passion. And they are likely going to remove that thunderbolt port on iPad soon enough. What’s next? Wireless charging MacBook Pro with zero port?
The story goes more and more ridiculous the further we move down the road. But, who knows. If Apple can somehow manufacture the back of iPad in a highly advanced manner that power can sip through the case, which enables wireless charging, that’d be yet another evolutionary moment.
No they aren’t. If anything I could imagine them adding a second port before removing all ports.

The reverse and or wireless charging would be neat but not anything that would sway me vs it not having those features. The M1 iPad Pro is just about the perfect tablet. iPad Pro only needs software-the hardware is there.

Apple may eventually remove all ports on their other iPads, but I don’t see them remove the Thunderbolt port in a near future. It would completely discredit the iPP as a professional oriented tablet. The general consumers tablet could become port less and I think that nobody would really complain if the wireless solution is simple and elegant (which I doubt)

Or they could put it in the magic keyboard case. Which would be my preferred method if they can efficiently have the wireless charging coil hidden in the magic keyboard case and power it thru the smart connector

Why?

When you dock the iPad Pro on MKB, it charges it too if you have usb-c plugged into the side port. It effectively already is wireless charging for certain uses

Apple uses pro moniker so extensively it’s the level of abusing “pro” as justification to charge $200 extra. Near future with ports sure, but we all know Apple hates ports. They want a device that can only be connected wirelessly and they are speeding towards that direction for a few years already. Soon, the only device that still has any port would be Mac Pro.

Magic keyboard case still has smart connectors to provide power and data transfer. It’s not wireless charging.

I get that its not Qi charging, but you slap the tablet on the keyboard magnetically, and it charges.

Qi / Smart connectors. That's semantical. its still without grabbing a wire and plugging it into the body of the device. Hence, wireless.

True wireless charging using something like Energous WattUp RF tech is the game changer if it ever goes mainstream. The HomePod would be an ideal way to implement, bringing phone, iPad, watch, other devices near it initiates charging without a physical connection. Safe, efficient RF charging tech has been a long time coming and when it arrives it will change the way we live. The video on the Energous homepage shows an example of the basics of how it might work.

While a glass back might look sleek, it will also add quite a bit of weight to an iPad, which is not so welcome for a portable device, IMO.
Not to mention you’ll rarely, if ever, even see it, since most of us have cases/keyboards attached.

And am I the only one who isn’t excited about wireless charging on an iPad? Plugging it in isn’t all that onerous.

cmon man I literally just bought the new iPad Pro 11
It’s never ending chase. You could wait till 2022 and heard rumors just a week after buying a new iPad. Keep smiling man and wait for another one 3-4 years. Who knows maybe it will be hovering? 😁

I think every single person who bought the iPad Pro 2021 knew exactly that the next gen iPad Pro was going to be better but they did chose not to wait for the future and instead enjoy the present.
At least the 2021 iPad Pros are actually a huge upgrade - M1 CPU, 8/16GB of RAM and miniLED display. The 2020 iPad Pros were the ”missing link” generation of non-upgrade.

Obviously it will still be unibody aluminum with a small MagSafe size cut out wireless charging.

Or it will charge through the smart connector if Apple can get past the awful Qi standard.

First OLED now this? 2021 iPad pro customers are suckers.

more like iScam Pro Bloom 2021
Hahaha, miniLED was not the Selling factor for me this year 🤣🤣 it was fishy when they did it back to back releases before the usual 2-3 year updates in between

Use case: travel. Plug in ipad. Stick other devices on top to charge on nightstand overnight. No need to bring chargers for everything.

Dude. Really. The point of a wireless charger is that you don’t need to insert the charger to the device to charge.

You still need to insert a USB C into the magic keyboard. You still need to use your hand to remove the connector. I think you’re missing the point of what makes a wireless charger convenient.

Yes dude. Really.
Wireless chargers have a cable connected to the puck. This isn’t a new concept

this is why the rumor is a glass back. The same reason iPhone 8 went glass back.

if you’re referring to true wireless charging like WiFi level wireless , no wire attached to the wireless dock, then yea that’s cool. That’s still a ways away from next year though IMO

No dude, wireless chargers are universally referring Qi chargers. We don’t need to pick apart what I said, and no one said it was a new concept.

The point is to bring that concept to the iPad so you don’t need to attach anything to the iPad while charging. A puck resting on or underneath an iPad isn’t attached or connected, they’re just touching. That is the point of Qi wireless charging that makes it convenient

I found out these iPads put out more RF Radiation than sitting at your iMac all day.
Macbook = 800
AirPort Extreme =600
iMac = 400
iPad = 500
Mac mini =200.

For people with Cancer or not wanting to get Cancer this is bad.

Some Day you'll care. when Cancer hits you.

I;m going with the Mac mini when the M1x model comes out.

Negative. https://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancer-causes/radiation-exposure/radiofrequency-radiation.html
