Perfect? I'm going on perfect iPad number 6 because of screen issues.
Anyway, 3D is a gimmick. I'd rather a TV with perfect blacks and color over a nauseating trick.
No way. 3D is way to "gimmicky" for Apple. Maybe someday, like when cars have no tires and just hover over the road. But not in the iPad 3.

Interesting rumor, who knows if really true. 3D just isn't that widely accepted yet. I have enjoyed looking at some of the 3D TVs at Best Buy very much, but I wouldn't buy one!

1)what is the point on the iPad? I can read my email in 3D? Do the smiley faces in my emails hover in mid air?
2)3D technology has been tested since the 80s...and they all require silly (and expensive) glasses to wear...3D technology needs to go much further and dump the glasses. Besides, 3D basically stinks...yes, some day it will get really good and our Sunday football games will be killer...but I'm still thinking we're 20 years away from a true 3D "tv" experience in our living rooms for under $3000.

I doubt this one. Would be too expensive and not provide enough value/oomph/bragging rights for consumers.
Got my kid a 3ds and the 3d is cool and yet glad you can turn it off. It gets in the way sometimes and its a relief to go back into 2d after being in 3d a bit.

Why so many negatives, I love 3D stuff when it's done correctly. Lots of fun in my opinion. Though I really doubt Apple would put a 3D screen on the iPad.
Is there even a display technology that shows 3D without glasses and shows it even when you rotate the screen from landscape to portrait ? Lenticular surely isn't doing that, and I don't see Apple pushing 'those glasses' in their products ("The all new iSight !").

I'd rather have them move to Pixel Qi, Mirasol or Liquavista once the technology is up to steam. Instead of having a light that needs to burn brighter than the ambient light to able to see it (bye bye battery life outdoors).
Agreed - it's for fun, but not all fun. 3D has its place, just not on the iPad.
AMOLED with its stupid pixel layout makes text look fuzzy even on high resolution screens. Apple was smart to stay away from AMOLED.
Cool. Maybe alongside this magical 3D display technology, they can magically figure out how to put ANOTHER SPEAKER IN IT SO WE CAN HEAR IN GLORIOUS 1950s STEREO!!!
Why are you guys all against 3D? I think its great, BUT I think its a given that you will be able to turn off the 3D.. And if that is the case then there is no problem really
I wont speak for others but i'm against 3d because it's a gimmick which often does not always work well. The art of cinema is to tell a story. 3D movies create a distraction which actually interferes with story telling.
This would indeed be awesome for people like me who quite like the 3D stuff and don't get headaches with it.
But if they were to do it they'd have to make sure EVERYTHING that was in 3D was also in 2D so people who can't see 3D/don't like it don't have to use it.
I'd have though iPad 3 would have been a bit soon though?

The world is in 3D but we only see in 2D, with depth perception if you have two working eyes. 3D vision would entail all three dimensions being visible at once. You can see the entire width and height of something but you can't see its entire depth in the same glance. A 3D view would allow you see all the corners of a cube as right angles just like 2D vision lets you see all right angles of a square.
IOW organic depth perception is as much a gimmick as 3D as a consumer product. Both instances entail two slightly disparate 2D images that give your brain a better idea of where in space they are, not an entire extra visual dimension of information. Nothing evolutionary in regards to visual media, barely enriching, and not at all necessary.

That said, I'm not buying the statement that 3D TV is a fad. Emerging technolgy? Sure. Fad? No way. It's a natural evolution that is at or in reach of Joe Consumer. BTW, check out LG's new brand of 3D TV's. They use the same type of glasses you use in a theater setting. Also, it is important to remember that all content gives you the *option* of viewing in 3D. It's not mandatory.
As far as a 3D capable iPad; I'm all for it. It's not about reading email or browsing the web in 3D. That would be kinda stupid. It's about games and books and cool UI's.
That darn floppy drive just won't seem to die.....
