And why would I play music in my ears and blast navigation directions to the car audio. I would obviously do it the other way around?
The article mentions audio which may not be limited to just music:
In another example, Mac Otakara suggests a usage scenario in which an iPhone could be connected to a car as well as wireless headphones, transmitting GPS directions to the in-car audio system and audio to the headphones.
Could the other audio perhaps be a phone call in cars that don't have bluetooth?

Bluetooth lag is terrible at ~250ms. Now that Apple isn't actively throwing Qualcomm under the bus it should license 40ms aptX Low Latency or ~50ms aptX Adaptive. This should take priority over dual output.

https://stephencoyle.net/airpods

40ms, 100ms vs 220ms bluetooth comparison (echo effect)

I just want to have a Spotify connect like feature. The handoff feature is amazing. No reason that Apple Music shouldn’t be able to do that already. And being able to cast to almost any device possible is something that i wish Apple Music also.

Wish they would make available the ability to connect the Airpods to two devices simultaneously.
For instance if you have a work phone and a personal phone, have the Airpods connected to both at the same time with the ability to answer either that rings without having to manually switch in settings.

Or connect to Apple TV and Phone for those times when you don't want to disturb anyone with TV sound.

My Plantronics Voyager head set can do this (with 2 phones) and that's already 6 years old.

with usb-c I begin to thing about. and without notch insta-buy.

same with MacBooks.
without butterfly I think about. without Touch Bar insta-buy.

till then: on hold
I don’t see the notch going away. If nothing else it help me orient the phone up. Which I get right 75% of the time.

All part of the great upgrade roadmap. ie. Spread features out across as many hardware iterations as you can get away with to maximize profit. Gotta keep people wanting to upgrade every cycle.

Based on sales showing its not working, you really think this is Apple's strategy?

Sometimes hardware changes are required for new tech, which I'm sure you're aware.

This would be cool, but I can’t help but notice Apple used to be the one to pioneer features such as this, now they just copy Samsung.

Surprised something like this hasn’t existed for years.

Samsung invented this?

Yep. Bose gear does this already, as do the excellent Libratone Track Plus wireless (wired) BT earphones.

Yeah, buy two sets of $400+ headphone to share this technology. Great.

BT5.0 looks great but supported headphone still costs an arm and a leg.

Not sure if being cheeky, however you can pick up BT headphones in a variety of price ranges and much more affordable compared to Apple or brand names. It’s BT headphones, there is only so much physical space you can use to make the hearing experience that much different and I am skeptic that majority can even hear the difference for watching entertainment in the scenario depicted.

Earplugs = smallest drivers in the physical space, earphones and earmuffs grant a little bit more. Don’t believe anyone needs water or sweat proof while watching AppleTV.

This has been the case with Apple for a while now, see what competition does them wait years to include it so people may have a reason to upgrade, while downplaying said technology when competition originally released it.

Qi, sAMOLED, IPX, large displays, etc.

Sure to make the device thinner for what purpose to remove the headphone jack, battery life, camera bump, etc. At whose benefit other than to release a battery pack case rather than fox the original product.

I know what Apple is going to be calling the 3 new models: mistakes.

Wait until some quarterly sales of these new designs are tallied up. Ya’ll are gonna witness the true beginning of the falling of iOS marketshare like never before.

Really large displays is a downplayed technology, like wide-lapels is a downplayed fashion? Much of the phone technology had it's genesis long before cell phone manufacturers started to incorporate them as products.

oled, lcd, wifi, wireless charging (not the qi protocol though), li-ion etc. Android manufacturers are the first to experiment. Apple is the first to get it right.

Sure, that is the only reason to make a device thinner, to sell a battery pack (along with saving money for the headphone jack, battery, case etc). You got apple nailed.

Bookmarked for posterity. Probably what will happen is these new iphones will fly off the shelves. But since we are in the realm of conjectures, anything can go.

Can we talk about how good MacRumors' renders look, regardless of people saying the phone will be ugly with the triple lens camera.

It is ugly. Not “will be” “because of”. It just is. It is the worst designed iPhone to date. That is a fact. It will also lead to the steep decline of marketshare and upgrade sales. It’s ugly; nobody will want it.

Apple is seriously losing me. The Notch, the headphone jack, the camera bumps since the iPhone 6 and onward only getting LARGER and more protruding, it’s...

Not good. Not good at all. Laugh, downvote, say what you want...these designs would have never left Steve’s desk, not ever.

What if you weren't the driver. you are the passenger in a car, the driver is unsure how to get somewhere... so you pull up navigation for them. you don't need the directions... and want to listen to music. one scenario...

Steve is dead and nobody is reaching out from beyond the grave. Those who dislike Apple in 2019 should be thankful there are alternatives.

Here's a crazy thought. Buying something else has more impact than complaining on an internet forum.

I know, that’s why Apple’s iPhone sales are tanking. I’m trying to tell users here who only see stock price why Apple is in huge trouble. Seems like not very many see it.

That’s the spirit! Progress in design is hard. Let’s settle for mediocrity!

Doubling the out of sync audio and tempo with the screen and now out of sync between users. Amazing. Bluetooth is the emperor without clothes. No one wants to admit it that its awful.
As someone who uses AirPods everyday, allow me to say that latency isn’t a problem that effects most people. For music listening, movie watching, and game playing, it’s a non-issue. And thats what 99% of people do with there headphones.

Most phones have all of those things.

Apple copying Sony!!!
Original walkman had 2 headphone jacks, thinking people want to listen together, then went on with 1.

This wouldn't be applicable to Apple stuff, since they've chucked the headphone jack on nearly all of their devices, but a useful general feature with headphone jack equipped phones and speaker systems would be to allow both wired and wireless headphone/speaker access for music at the same time. So far, I can only get devices to route music to either wired or wireless, but not both simultaneously. I have a nice sound bar, equipped with both bluetooth and a jack. Bluetooth is automatically disabled on the sound bar upon plugging in a music source through the jack. Similarly, if I plug either my LG phone or an Amazon Echo to the external speaker via a wire, bluetooth streaming functions are disabled for all devices. Curiously, though a wired sound source disables bluetooth for routing of a streamed signal (music or voice/talk), the Echo bluetooth still works for giving Alexa commands. Only the streamed source gets restricted. BTW, the Echo is really a low fidelity speaker system, not especially stellar for music, but connecting its auxiliary 3.5 mm jack via a wire to the sound bar or nice headphones gives me the sound quality of the external speaker (while turning off the Echo speaker for the stream). With high quality speakers, the only restrictions lie with the quality of the stream compression from the source.

I'm guessing devices with multiple jacks just weren't practical for wired use, so never really caught on. Bunch of people connected by wire to one device would be sort of awkward - just hook up a wire to one space speaker system.
