Photo editing is a lot easier to do than video editing, yet it is not on iPhone. Audio editing is a lot easier to do than video editing and it is not on iPhone now. all those editing things are way way easier to do on the computer and iPhone just need very basic image and audio manipulation. Video editing is very very resource intensive, so it is extremely unlikely that it will be available by default for all new iPhones. at very best it will be cropping, somewhat similar to cropping of photos of current pictures (when you pick and image for contact). most people never ever edit any of their photos or videos on the computer, so there will be even fewer people who would ever do that on iPhone. just be real

If it'll edit movies then it would be very basic editing.... which shouldn't be considered "editing". It would probably be adding the ability to edit things out and add special effects.. which is nothing special.

I can't believe how many of you are excited about the new upcoming iPhone with it's video recording capabilities. Call me pessimistic but the 3G iPhone should've came with video recording, having to pay another 300 to get one with video recording is a kick in the rear. While I do agree the marketing strategy is great, for those that cannot hold back on a feature that should've been here 2 years ago, Apple is nonetheless a thief and bigger thief than Microsoft.

Releasing one feature that is far superior and technologically advanced than the previous version's is great, but releasing a feature that has been tested by other manufacturers and has been here since the year 2000 is an insult to consumers and Apple fans alike.

My EXACT thoughts. THANK YOU.

Yeah, if Apple has spent significant time developing the software part, I think it increases the changes of getting added to the Touch. Over the long haul (if not already), the most important part of this is the Touch OS platform, not the phone or the iPod. So greater integration is good.

I wouldn't be surprised if camera is added this year, then GPS next year. They won't do it in 1 fell swoop. But the 2G Touch added a couple of extras, such as microphone input and speaker. So this should continue with the 3G iPod Touch.

The more and more we get teased about Apple releasing huge features like this convinces me more and more that these will be in the iPod touch as well.

With developers gaining access to every tool available on the iPhone/iPod touch platform, there is no reason to segregate iPod touch users from the same features as the iPhone. Not including GPS and a camera for photos and video does not make sense any longer, as well as anything else they might have cooking.

To me, the only difference between the iPhone and the iPod touch should, and will, be the actual phone part, and always being connected to the internet. That should be the only distinction in the future, and enough of a distinction between the two products. The iPhone certainly doesn't need to rely on the camera and GPS to set itself apart.

Cheers,

Guys like you just don't get it.

Yeah....every other smartphone, and I use that term loosely, has these features but my experience has been that the UI is ass-ugly and the apps. are unintuitive and downright confusing at times making them geek-friendly but not very appealing to the average person.

Except the Nokia version is dead easy. What part of that are you not getting?

Numbers don't lie and given the fact that the iPhone is the best-selling smartphone, it becomes painfully (to guys like you) obvious that most people are willing to wait for a few features if it means a better overall experience.

Good for you. I'll enjoy it on any number of half a dozen or more Nokia handsets, the combined total of which far outweigh iPhone sales and which are available now.

It's not new. Get over it.

Enough processing power?

Granted the new phones are supposed to be faster, right?

But if my iPhone 3G can't even switch between the SMS App and Mail app in 5 seconds, how the eff is it supposed to be able to edit video in an iMovie app?!

It doesn't really matter to me what other phones can or cannot do because I am an iPhone owner/user and care what the iPhone can/cannot do. What the iPhone does, it does brilliantly, but I certainly won't complain when more and more features are added. There are many things this pocket computer could be capable of in future. Video? Okay, gimmee. If I can write/edit a novel on the thing, cool. It would save lugging a laptop around. Will it iron my shirts in the future? Who knows. But at the end of the day the iPhone is a sweet bit of kit as it is and thus can only get better and better the more features and functions it has.

I've never read so much BS in my entire time on this forum. That's a lot of BS you triumphed over.

What's BS about it? Please educate me. I'm 37. I know plenty of people over 40. They all have families. None of them edit home video. None of them even have a passing interest in doing it. These are well educated professional people.

Video editing is one of the smallest niches in computer software.

Just look at the popularity of the DVD-based cameras from 3-4 years ago.

You need to expand your thinking to the general population not just people on forums...

When Apple drastically changed iMovie in iLife '08 there was a mass revolt, right? Wrong. There was a mass revolt among iMovie users, which is a very small minority of iLife users.

Most people shoot photos, not video. And of those who do shoot video very few edit what they've shot.

sigamy - Seeing as they're going towards podcasts, video podcasts - video screencasts, even possibly iPhonescreencasts - there's a market right there. Showing people how to easily create a screencast is usually an eyeopener for many, from what i've seen with Screenflow.

Lowering the barrier to creation and editing is a good thing, right?

How about walking before we think about flying?

I'm just hoping for functional MMS like other phones have had since long, long before the first iPhone was released...

Since there are so many people saying this, I'm guessing it's true... So, cool!

*gets wallet ready*

How will these videos be synced back to the computer? I can see this working with itunes. Iphoto does not have any kind of video support.

iPhoto imports videos from still cameras just fine and plays them via quicktime. They are placed in the events just like photos.

As for video, iMovie/FCP/FCE on Macs, that for sure.

This looks great. Can't wait to pick up the new iPhone this summer. I just hope AT&T doesn't give people who got the 3G last July a hard time about upgrading. :(

so much fanboysim just becuase of video? phone record videos since 2003.

APPLE IS SMART......

I dont care if i bought an iphone 3g and the new one will have more features. Could they have had it in the iphone 3g ???? probably... will they sell a bunch of people ANOTHER phone??? probably.

now it may not feel good to you, but they are playing the game.

Remember Dont hate the player, hate the game.

NEW FEATURES YAY...:D

upgrade your iPhone

Actually you can count on having a hard time upgrading, but don't feel too bad, what is the worst case scenario? buying the new version in full price around $600? In Canada, Rogers/Fido customers have to sign a 3 year contract to get the 3G, and there is no way getting out of that one, they will be green with envy in June when the new iPhone comes out.

Not to sound mean, but what would be the point of importing video to the iPhone for editing purposes?

That said, if the next iPhone does have video capabilities I don't see Apple blocking any app just b/c it has a video editing capability. If it doesn't do more than whatever app they include, sure. But just as there are tons of photography apps, I suspect there will be lots of video apps too.

There's no point to writing an app if it does less than what Apple has to offer. Also, the reason there are tons of photography apps is because Apple doesn't offer anything beyond their simple photo manager.

Also, it would be intended more for people who are "on-the-go" and can't bring their computer with them easily.

I hope they only allow video uploading over wifi. Att's "awesome" 3G network can barely handle data now let alone video.

Forget About Movies

Forget about editing and recording movies, I have a nice camcorder that will do that. I'd just like to be able make phone calls without them dropping and see landline-like speed like we saw in Apple's commercials when the iPhone 3G was introduced. Although I'm a Mac fanboi, I've had enough of AT&T's lousy service and will be selling my iPhone and going back to Verizon this month. First and foremost, I need a reliable *phone*.
