Regarding notch in 2022 Macbook with white bezels. What about no notch but display with 16:9 ratio which could compensate for depth of the laptop with bigger top bezel? In the same time display would be more aligned for casual video consuming. It would eliminate black strips between video and white bezels when playing 16:9 video in fullscreen.

I like white bezels, reminds me of early 2000s Apple (I mean why not, these new NBPs have the same basic shape as the Albooks with a TiBook lid)

...but keep the off-white 'starlight' away from my macs!

The iMac with white bezels looks pretty damn good in person. I do wonder how many of the knee-jerk comments to white bezels have seen this industrial design in person.

If it’s going to stay 1/2 the price of the base 14” Pro it’s gonna have to be pretty basic. Nothing equivalent to the Pro - not the ports, not the power, not the screen.

So likely no mini-led unless it makes economic sense to do it and it’s less accurate/bright etc but then what would be the point of mini-led.

But most of all it will emphasize the visual difference between Air and Pro that was lost when they introduced the latest Air form factor.

The white bezels and keys will scream teenager/grandparents/casual user which of course no self respecting coffee shop squatter will dare be associated with.

The visuals will drive more upsales to the Pro at an extra $1000.

Meh... Actually don't mind the white bezel on the new iMac when actually using it. It it's pure white, it's fine and can be a useful reference for print and photo work. I would still prefer black. And if not black, my next choice would be 18% neutral grey, then white.

I really don't see Apple using white bezels if they include the notch. I could be wrong, but I think that would be a surprising move since most of the notch would still need to be black to obscure what's in the notch.

I predict the next MBA will have super-thin bezels just like the Pro and will have the notch. It will not have the XDR/ mini-LED backlight system with all those lighting zones and probably not the Pro-Motion 120Hz. But with the thinner bezel, will share the same 14" size as the new MBP and fit within roughly the same form factor as the current MBA. Of course it will be super thin. Won't surprise me if they ditch the tapered design or keep it, either way. I kinda like the taper when using the system, but would prefer a consistent thickness for stacking with other stuff in a bag.

...I also hope they bring back the small MacBook -- 12" equivalent. That thing was a portable dynamo. Or still is. My wife has been using her 12" i7 from 2015 as her on the go notebook for 6 years now and the poor thing is dying. We bought our daughter the M1 Air for college and my wife almost opted to get one too, but decided to wait. She'll take the new Air, but I think she dreams of another smaller one like her 12".

These are going to sell like hot cakes.

After working 7 years behind the Genius Bar, I can assure you regular consumers (who are your typical MacBook Air customers) don't care one iota about white bezels/keys... they care about having a pink/orange/blue/green computer.

Expect a notch too. Yet another thing regular consumers don't give a sh*t about.
Agree...FINALLY!...ANOTHER COLOUR OTHER THAN SILVER OR SPACE GREY!

Off white = beige.
Typing from 2015 MBA 11" thicc bezels, so I don't really mind at all.
Or pale grey like on the iMacs, or a pale colour other than beige.
Else, maybe MacOS menus will do the responsive website thing and if menu collides with notch in normal mode it switches to the 3 horizontal lines vertical menu approach?
Has anyone got time to make a dummy app with a stupid number of menu items and see what happens now? If I were designing it, I’d abbreviate the menu names and then make them scroll like a tab bar, but there’s a reason I’m not a UI designer.
Not sold on colourful devices. I might have to stick with my MBA M1 if the new colours are true.
They offer a silver iMac, so I assume they’ll offer a silver MBA.

It’s not half the price if you spec up the RAM and storage to match the base Pro, that brings it up to 1400. Of course, Apple could keep the base storage and RAM low to lower the price, but that’s not really a fair comparison IMO.

Was there any mention of the screen size?
13" or 14"?

If it's 14", it's probably 100% likely it's getting a notch
but if it's 13", that seems a little less likely since they'd probably just re-use the panels they already have?

Either way this "MacBook" will probably end up replacing the $1299 13" MacBook Pro (explaining the "price increase") and the M1 MacBook Air will remain as the entry level option.

I can't see them getting rid of the $999 MacBook Air and bumping up the price, that'd be suicide for their education market.

Glad someone here is an anchor into reality.

Aren't Chromebooks and entry-level iPads the preferred education devices? They can be had for <$300

Out of the roughly 5 million Macs sold every quarter... I can't imagine there are a ton of Macbook Airs being purchased by school systems.

Even the Air's $899 "education price" still seems a little high for education.

A school could buy three to four Chromebooks for the price of one Macbook Air. And the Chromebook will have all the cloud storage and management stuff built-in that the schools use.

I do think Apple should have a laptop at the $999 price. But I don't think education is solely the reason for it.

But this is entirely subjective. I personally think they look way better in renders and marketing materials than they do in person. In fact, I would never be in the market for one just because they don't have a neutral colored iMac w/ black bezel option. I'm not entirely sure I like where Apple's "lower end" products are trending, as most of them are losing a neutral colored option (aluminum Apple Watch S7, iPhone 13, iMac only has silver, iPad mini no longer has silver)

If the MacBook lineup is taking design queues from the iPhone (which they clearly are) with the introduction of the notch, then I find a white notch hard to believe since no iPhone version sports a white bezel.

Not to mention that a white bezel would be UGLY, let alone a really pathetic way to make consumers shell out for a MBP.

Everybody actually is complaining about white bazels. It was not that long ago, when white MacBooks featured white Bazels.
