Next MacBook Pro to Get New Case Design

What if the new form took after the iphone4 and ipad2 with an aluminium body sandwiched between black/ white plastic/glass ala two 2 ipads on top of each other (touch screens together)

that sounded better in my head...

YESSS! Exactly what i wanted to hear. I'm waiting till the new redesign comes out to buy my First MacBook Pro.. :D

Absolutely perfect design? Not even close.

Things apple needs to do to make a better MBP with a redesign:

MUST DO:

(1) IPS screen. I actually don't mind lower resolutions on small screens (1280x800 is fine for 13.3"), but please, please give me a real IPS panel.

(2) Sharp edges need to go. I don't care what people say, working on a macbook for any extended period of time leaves deep grooves in my wrists/palms.

(3) A better design for cooling. Even with light cpu usage, the fans go crazy on my MBP and it gets terribly loud. Awful experience. I'm hoping Ivy Bridge will help with this. Either way, the fans need to be quieter. Maybe larger, slower fans rather than small fast ones?

WOULD BE NICE:

(4) Ability to turn off the super bright glowing apple logo would be nice

(5) Change 13.3" macbook to 14" (they prob won't do this)

(6) Support some kind of docking station (maybe just with thunderbolt?)

what is the point of an IPS screen with a low resolution? IPS is good for viewing angles but people rarely look at a laptop from extreme viewing angles. the color and contrast on the current mbp screen are pretty good right now.

not cool. i was hoping to sell my 06' MBP to upgrade to hopefully an updated MBA line. but now this means i have to wait more...

please get rid of the bezel. make it as small as possible.

please do not make it thinner. rather reduce footprint and keep battery life up.

I love the way the Arn writes "the next revision of Apple's MacBook Pro line will utilize a new case design for the first time in several years."

It's been a couple years. 2 years, 6 months to be exact. He writes as though this design has been around for like, forever!

The previous aluminum design remained almost exactly the same (except for some almost inperceptable thinning when it became the MacPro) from Jan 2003 (the powerbook G4) to October 2008. 5 YEARS AND TEN MONTHS!

It's about time to change it up a bit. Only hoping they get better from here, not all change is good ask iphoto 11 users. Getting a new design right can be a bit tricky.

MacRumors has heard reliable confirmation that the next revision of Apple's MacBook Pro line will utilize a new case design for the first time in several years.

The possibility of a new case design was first revealed by iLounge in February just before the early 2011 MacBook Pros were released. iLounge described the most recent updates as the last "incremental" update before an all-new MacBook Pro design. The last time the MacBook Pro was redesigned was in late 2008 with the introduction of the unibody MacBook Pro. The unibody MacBook Pro design which remains in use today offers an iMac-inspired design with a black-bezel and aluminum unibody casing. Unfortunately, we have no specifics on what the next MacBook Pro might look like, though many have previously speculated that Apple will take cues from the MacBook Air line.

Eff That! There's nothing wrong with the current design. Nor does it look at all dated. Especially with the port logos being all bold and black now. (Though not like that matters.)

Didn't Apple recently hire someone that deals with carbon-fibre? Guessing might have something to do with that...

believe it when I see it.

I'm slowly becoming a skeptic I think. It would be cool to see what they would come up with though.

Agreed. I've never understood why macs have such large bezel's. The 11" MBA is a notable offender in particular, since because the laptop is so small, the wide bezel looks even more immense compared to the rest of the laptop.

...which is still a bottleneck.

So what's your point? You like moderetly better bottlenecks?

I'd rather eliminate them altogether.

...and you think most people who buy a MBP won't swap out the drive for a 7200RPM drive or an SSD and max out their memory?

Intelligent...no genius level thinking!

an SSD is a moderately better bottleneck?

Also storage is more important than outright speed to some people on the go. Why do you want to take away their options?

Great. Since Apple puts that crap hard drive in there.

And Apple's SSDs are sooo awesome right? About the only thing they really have an edge at is booting up and you can thank Snow Leopard enhancements as much as the SSD for that. For all other tasks...average. The kicker is, you can't even upgrade them to something better/larger down the road...as things currently stand anyway.

"which is already under development at Quanta in Taiwan"

And I was naive enough to think that Apple developed their cases themselves. And if they don't it means that they do not design any hardware at all.

Ummm...that doesn't mean what you are saying at all.

Apple has stated before, in one of their Keynote videos (possibly the one about the Unibody MBP), that they send their designers to Taiwan, and China, where the factories are actually located, to the designing, so they have a complete feel for the entire life of the product. So they have an idea of what the manufacturing facilities will look like, and have quick/easy access to the raw materials, and can easily test the manufacturing capabilities themselves.

Just because the design might be happening at Quanta (still a rumor) doesn't mean Apple is not doing the designing (if it wasn't their designs, why hasn't anyone else been able to make a unibody laptop yet?).

...

I wonder if they'll go SSD and maintain the price-point by saying bye-bye to the superdrive? I hope so, i'd prefer SSD speed over a disc drive which i hardly use anymore.

Also, i'm thinking the black bezel might go. In my opinion, the black hinge doesn't look too good when the rest is metal.

Bigger trackpad, for Lion's gestures?

I hope they don't go sloped, like the air. But then again, when it comes to design, Apple always make it sexy, so i don't mind really.

Can't wait anyway, i was recently thinking of buying a MacBook Pro, glad i didn't jump in too soon :)

Are they going to launch it soon? June/July period?

I doubt it as they had just refresh their MBPs not long ago...
