It's never going to happen, but a built in dock for an iPhone (to one side of the trackpad) would be really cool and useful - doubling as an extra input and an extra display area.

I wonder if the glass trackpad is going to have a display as well, that would make sense and explain the need for it being glass.

Imagine if the glass trackpad was the same size as an iPhone, and if you had one, you could pop it in there and use it as a screen - if not, just a nice glass touchpad? Hmmm...

Not only college kids are going to buy the new updated macbooks.
Think about it.

I am.

:D

Another stupid? Yeah, go ahead and tell Steve his product is stupid to his face. I dare you. GD primitives! Why must Steve seemingly be the only one dragging you all kicking and screaming into the future?

I'm sorry, but I think it's stupid. I don't think it's practical in this kind of incarnation. Maybe as a Microsoft Surface-esque type home entertainment thing, but not as a laptop.

Just seems like a big gimmick.

Why people would want a bluray drive in a laptop is beyond me. Hell, I'm hoping they take the optical drive completely out of the next MacBook, or at least offer one with the drive and one without.
Completely agreed!

I almost never use the optical drive (except to use the original install discs and to watch movies), and I need a laptop with the power of a regular MacBook / MacBook Pro. Dual HDs would be nice too.

I really cannot see Apple missing out on the "Back to School" time frame. September is honestly too late. The average student purchasing a laptop is going to have no idea there is a refresh is the works, therefore they will make their purchase regardless before school starts. Apple will miss out on this opportunity. A few weeks into September students would have already made their purchases. From now until the end of August Apple has a serious chance to continue to ride their current sales momentum, if they chose to not release the updated version of the MB and MBP that momentum will subside.

i'm actually FOR glass trackpads, cause not only would they be easier to clean than the current trackpads, the won't get that oily buildup over time

Every college kid on MacRumors said:
Apple should update before Sept. 15th yada yada yada

Don't you potential student customers get it? The promotion is to get as many college kids to buy a Mac as possible with the current inventory. The incentive is an iPod Touch. Not everyone is as clued up about Apple as you all clearly are!

This is so they clear as much "old" (read: current) inventory as they can, then launch something new afterwards.

Makes sense.

Sorry it sucks to get a promotional deal! I personally wish the promotion ended late August so they could get new ones out sooner, but I'm going to wait. The end!

The iMacs were released last year midway through the promotion.

I was kinda in a state of disbelief after reading this. It seemed that a lot of Rumors were pointing to the next 2-3 weeks for a MBP release. I, like others here, am looking to purchase a new laptop right before school starts and Late September is a punch in the gut.
A lot of people seem to mention the back to school as a reason why. First, I don't even need another iPod, but most people in the US are back in school by the first week of September so that leaves about two weeks of apple being "generous."

If new MacBook (pros) are ready, let's hope they push them out ASAP, glass trackpad and all.

Do you think Apple will still leave in the functionality to upgrade the RAM and hard drive by the user? This was a big plus for me!

My credit card is on "standby yellow alert". I smell this one coming; 10" mac book air with glass trackpad, September-ish.

Having a small screen would make much more sense on the MBA as the MB is only going to get thinner and lighter completely defeating the MBA's selling point.

Roll on September!!:D

agree

Yeah but with BluRay your battery isn't going to last a 5-6 hr flight. I'd rather they increase battery life than put bluray in the macbook or at least leave bluray as an option for those who want to use it as part of their home theatre setup.
The reason I say this is because on a 13" screen, your eyes won't be able to discern the difference of 480P to 1080P because the pixels would be so damn small. Therefore just watch ordinary DVD's and enjoy the longer battery life. This is of course only true unless you literally have the eyes of an eagle or hawk, or you're bionic man, or superman lol.

Really though, on a 13" screen, BluRay is about as useful as plugging your PS3 into a 13" SD CRT TV and watching BD movies

So you think I should buy my movie on Bluray AND DVD? Hell no! :)

Plus I did link in another post regarding Centrino2 potentially enabling uses to watch 2 BD movies back to back on one battery. :)

I do agree regarding the size and not being able to tell, but when I play the same disk at home, I'll be thankful on my 56" screen. :)

Sorry, I'm just trying to get my foot out of my mouth...

It's okay. You can have a counter-argument point along the lines of this (implement it as you will):

While the iMac was released during last years promo, most college students are going to buy notebooks rather than desktops. So they would be giving away more iPods with a notebook release rather than a desktop release because more students buy notebooks.

The screen is also on the keyboard part of the book. Like a duplicate. Only difference is that the keyboard pops up on the keyboard side of the book. All glass.

Look at pic. Not a great Photoshop artist but you'll get the idea.

I want Apple (if they are going to mimic a notebook by its 2 halves) to utilize their patent that says they have a way to physically raise the pixels and/or change the shape of the pixels to form a 3d shape that then can be manipulated to react like real physical keys. That would give these people the feedback that they need. Also, it would be able to form an infinite amount of shapes for any button or what have you that people would need in a given moment according to the app.
That would be the way to go.

Oh, come off it. You're telling me you'd rather have MacBook Pros later rather than sooner?

October's a joke. The week before MacWorld 2009. Do we have a release date for Gainestown yet? A release month?

Are you guys talking about Mac Pro's or MacBook Pro's? :)

Silver, black, and white.

Ew.

Also, how would that touchpad work. You can't move out of the screen so you'd just keep flipping through albums. And when you typed it would accidently click something off if your arms brushed it.
