Very interesting indeed. What I don't understand is why the glass is necessary. Sure it sounds nice, but does that mean there is something new under it? I'm assuming a screen or more advanced electronics than currently housed in the trackpad (for more advanced touch gestures)? Also- Glass isn't exactly a very light material. This will definitely turn out to be an interesting product if the rumor comes true.

I am thinking, if there is a MacBook Touch, Macworld 2009 is the venue for it's release. September always keeps Apple busy with iPod updates, and if they are indeed going to release a two new notebook designs, all the more reason to push back the release.

Who ever really knows though...

so i will probably run out of time and get the current macbook. but then i will feel the current one is outdated and will be forgotten asap. and apple will slowly not care about it anymore and you will see less accesrories and stuff for it..

Bottomline this crap means no MacTouch till MacWorld 09 correct??!
Yep. And Macworld is generally for new products anyway, so it makes sense. :)

There must be a good reason for glass. Otherwise, why do it?

You guys do know..this whole end of september thing is this one guy estimating when he thinks something will come out. People are starting to sound like apple released a press release or something. I dont care how credible this guy is, there hasnt been enough info leaked to reach a definite time. This is a guy who got a few scant ideas (that all have been floating around), put them together in the most sensible idea and then printed his blog. Chill

Just think for a second....

Apple is in the middle of Iphone/mobile me chaos and all resources are being put to that. Stores are opening earlier..crowds in all stores etc. Apple purposly limited supplies as a marketing ploy. Think about it. When the zune came out..you can go to any store..and just pick one of the 100's on display. YOu dont feel so great buying it. YOu think noone else wants it. But with the iphone..you need to wait in line for one (sometimes) a whole 3 weeks after the release. Anyways...apple wouldnt be able to update anything with the iphone frenzy.

The whole ipod promotional. Apple wouldnt sell new laptops and then give away new ipods. Its a no brainer apple will refresh the ipods and macs..noone should be surprised...

All the college kiddies...buy the pretty white and black laptops get the ipod touch and buy the new laptops when you are a junior.

Nice name.

Best to wait, because even if they do bring out some stupid Macbook Touch, resellers will still be selling the current macbook for a while.

update sounds reliable. I would also love to see LED (mercury free) screens in the MacBooks, I thought I read that Apple wanted to be much more green(er) by the years end... thought I had read that somewhere but can't find it now.

My thoughts are that the iPhone works just fine as a multi-touch-capable device due to simple physics. You have another hand (or table or something) holding the thing applying equal force from behind so that your gestures register, etc. ...

Resistive touchscreen panels work via pressure, but capacitive touchscreen panels (as used in the iPhone and iPod touch) work via body capacitance.

Buy within promotion period; exchange once new computers come out?

Well apple does have a fourteen day return policy (for unmodified computers). SOOOO.... does that mean we could buy a laptop during the college promotion, get the free iPod, return our mac within the 14 day period (which would bring us right to the end of September) for a store credit, and use the credit to purchase one of the new models?

This is just getting retarded. First it was July, then August, now September? Give me a break already! I'm just as excited as the next guy about the refresh but this is just getting more stupid by the minute over the speculation of the delivery!

It's been several months that Im waiting for the MBP update to switch from PC to Mac. I hope this rumor concerns only the MB and I hope that the MBPs are going to be released sooner :(

Another stupid? Yeah, go ahead and tell Steve his product is stupid to his face. I dare you. GD primitives! Why must Steve seemingly be the only one dragging you all kicking and screaming into the future?

Ugh.

One piece of aluminum?
There goes all upgrability, and battery replacement.

Late September?
Most college kids will have a laptop far before then, so even if they don't lose a good chunk of their market to more up-to-date computers before school starts, they'll have many grumpy consumers shaking their fists at apple.

The Sony Vaio is starting to look realllllly pretty.

September ???

END OF SEPTEMBER ???
Beyond being personally disappointed due to the fact that my aging G4 simply won't last that long, I'm surprised Apple doesn't want any Back To School business for the new MacBook. 'Course, their goal is probably to use Back to School to clear out current stock of the MB and Touch. For myself though, there's no way I'll sucker for the current model - Touch or not!

Release Date: Last week(s) of September.
September 23 or 30? September 30 is also the last day of September. Several products have been released on the last day of a month, including the PowerBook G4 (1.5~1.67 GHz), the iMac G5, and the Intel Mac mini.

Check out my Idea of MacBook Touch

The screen is also on the keyboard part of the book. Like a duplicate. Only difference is that the keyboard pops up on the keyboard side of the book. All glass.

Look at pic. Not a great Photoshop artist but you'll get the idea.

I thought this also. How credible is that guy compared to any of us?

He says those are the what he's heard, but from who? And haven't all of us been talking about much more than just that? I can't really think of anything besides LCD screen, multitouch, and aluminum casing.(if someone says blu-ray, they're getting virtually stabbed.) So the glass thing is the only thing that's really new here. But it still appears to be a rumor. EDIT: and the last week of September thing, too.

Why people would want a bluray drive in a laptop is beyond me. Hell, I'm hoping they take the optical drive completely out of the next MacBook, or at least offer one with the drive and one without.
