I'm sorry, but I think it's stupid. I don't think it's practical in this kind of incarnation. Maybe as a Microsoft Surface-esque type home entertainment thing, but not as a laptop.
Just seems like a big gimmick.
The glass trackpad should serve as a touch screen, utilizing it as a smaller secondary display.
MacBook DS..?
those speakers. designer is fired.
Are you guys talking about Mac Pro's or MacBook Pro's?![]()
Does this mean there won't be a case redesign for macbook pros in august?
powermac_daddy said:I really cannot see Apple missing out on the "Back to School" time frame. September is honestly too late. The average student purchasing a laptop is going to have no idea there is a refresh is the works, therefore they will make their purchase regardless before school starts. Apple will miss out on this opportunity. A few weeks into September students would have already made their purchases. From now until the end of August Apple has a serious chance to continue to ride their current sales momentum, if they chose to not release the updated version of the MB and MBP that momentum will subside.
agree
Silver, black, and white.
Ew.
Also, how would that touchpad work. You can't move out of the screen so you'd just keep flipping through albums. And when you typed it would accidently click something off if your arms brushed it.

the only problem... Is that apple never let the back to school timeframe affect their releases. Apple frequently has updated the macbook in October and November
I would like the ability to have 2 hard drives in my MBP...
the surrent trackpads are smart enough to notice unintional clicks, c-mon i dont think they'l go backwards
Right because no one was ever successful for suing a company for spilling hot coffee over their lap..
I'm kinda hoping they take the super drive out of the Macbook Pro and offer the Macbook Air version, but as a blu-ray option.
I would like the ability to have 2 hard drives in my MBP as I use it for music production and need an external drive for my samples. I hate carrying around and attaching the external drive, I would much prefer a second internal HDD. Step that up a notch and make it 2 SSD drives.
Oh yeah, and expand the ram to 8 gb.
I am imagining an iPhone-size-pad in place of the traditional trackpad that changes depending on the application in use.
Sounds interesting.

Going back to apple's conference call....Some big huge product introduction...and all they come up with is a glass track display?? I dunno. To me...just sounds like a normal update given that its 2008 and the technology is there. I'm still not seeing it. Question...what sorts of hints were there before the iphone was release? I rememebred it was released at the big event...macworld was it?
Did people even think apple was going to have a phone? I am tempted to think the new product is something else
Where did all the talk of a august refresh come from? The whole best buy thing and how they should expect fewer shipments etc. got a lot of people going on the expect august 5/august 12. Honestly I think beyond August 5th is too late for college. Who buys a laptop the day before leaving college (a person who isnt a computer geek). Theres no reason to release an updated macbook late august...
I am starting to think mid october for mild refresh. January for big news.
anyway, back to the point of this thread... i hope the trackpad has a screen if it is indeed glass. i also hope that any extra features would be optional and not require people to begin using the trackpad in a different way for normal day to day use unless the extra/newer features are being used. i
I think the idea of an IPod Touch style glass trackpad would blow minds. Apple possesses the technology, if they're able to jam it into a Macbook and not have the battery life drop significantly, I say go for it.
Found this image of what it could possibly look like, you may have already seen it.
