Apple and Intel have probably made all the arrangements, and AppleInsider is just now picking it up (and AI doesn't know significant details). Also both AppleInsider and 9 to 5 mac agree on a September release - 2 months from now.

How could that be done without slowing down the HD or using more power to spin the HD?

good question. how? any ideas? like i said, i was just throwing it out there. there are a lot of smart people here. some even engineers,. just wondering out loud.

in my opinion its bad business for apple to wait until september. They'll lose sales to college students on the fence about getting a mac. Anyone thats not sure will most likely chose the newly updated PC over switching to a 6 month old mac. So if Apple wants more college sales, August has got to be the update date for the MBs and MBPs. Besides rumors are simply that. Rumors at the begining of this year though Montevina might be out by May. Ha! So we'll see. I'm really hoping for August. I've waited since Feb and need to get it before college. Its just not right if Apple screws the college kids with September!

This sucks! Apple will release the new macbooks just after the free iPod touch deal for students expires September 15.

They do that on purpose - They use the Student Back-to-College deal to help run their stock out of iPods and computers

i cant get over this. not the features but the possible release date. this one sounds great if its true. but why cant apple release it already. so many people have been waiting for months. and now longer and some cant wait any longer because of school. Just like me. I can wait until mid-aug but i know nothing will happen.

and even if they use the back to school deal to run out of the current stuff. why not just release the new ones and make it so its not part of the deal...

its always the case. hell, even if you wait, and by the revision, it will be obsolete by next year. this is the apple way.

imagine how much my wallet hurt after i bought a G5 and a year later they moved to intel....

If you had third degree burns on your privates and over 6% of your body (burned 16% total), were in the hospital for eight days for skin grafting, and had over $11,000 in medical expenses all because McDs had the coffee way too hot; you'd sue as well.

She didn’t want to sue, she wanted to settle for medical expenses, but McDs refused to offer more than $800. Ended up costing them a lot more in the end, and I’m glad they lost.

Its amazing how much people say about a topic they know nothing about.

Thank you.

I know this may seem odd but do you think it could be a completely different product like the Macbook touch they've been talking about for a while?

Oh and I see nothing from AI that says they are going to release in September.

I've got another one - a friend of mine just spilled some marinara sauce on her leg from one of those dual Taco Bell/Pizza Hut places and it was so hot that she has a HUGE scar from it and took weeks to heal. And that's Marinara sauce! (The scar is a bit larger than an old half-dollar coin). Of course she can't sue or anything but that's just to point out that there's a LOT of things that get heated much hotter than they need to be just to satisfy the marketing of "hot food, fast" (or something similar).

Of course! There were many documented cases/complaints of burns from the coffee long before that old lady was hurt. It just took a really severe case to get attention. That's one of the reasons why she got such a large settlement and it got so much attention. If you were to take that marinara sauce and, "accidently" or not, pour it on your face, resulting in a burn, you could probably sue and get a large sum of money.

Well, most people around the world DO like to drink their coffee at almost boiling point...and that's why we are so careful when drinking it after all...sipping is the right term to be used. However, the U.S. has abandoned long ago the idea of personal responsibility for your own acts, especially if the "average man" is supposed to act in a certain way...

So yes, for most of the civilized world, that WAS a frivolous lawsuit...

Okay, but is the high temperature worth getting third degree burns and being scared for life because you accidently spilt it onto your lap?

It wouldn't be so frivolous to you or anyone else if you had scolding hot coffee spilled on your crotch and had to be in the hospital without the money to pay for the bills.

Well, while I had to say those things, suing over pricking your finger on glass is pretty ridiculous, but if there were some freak accident and you lost a finger or got stabbed in the eye, you'd probably be pretty pissed.

Every idiot knows that coffee is hot. Its absolutely ridiculous to sue some one because their coffee was hot. Thats like suing a company for selling sharp steak knives. Anyway can't we try to keep this tread on topic?

It amazes me how we all still pay for lack of some basic features and a stunning design (that doesn't effect how the computer is useful or actually operates) when we buy Apple.

What the hell use is there in a glass trackpad? Seriously, a thinner MacBook.

Before Apple continues to be artsy and unique they need to look at the serious lack of utility their products have. My MacBook I paid a good 1500$ for with upgrades (4 gigs of ram, a larger/faster hd and a case to product its... easily damaged shell) and these are the ports it has on it.

Two USB ports, One FW400 port, a ethernet port, your usual audio stuff, a dvi port and of course the magna safe power port (genius in design). It also lacks dedicated graphics, and a super drive.

For 1500$ I get a combo drive and 128mb of vram? Lets even minus the upgrades I put into it and consider its base cost of 1199$ CAN (the base model of the current generation of MacBook) and all I get with that is 2 USB ports?

No HDMI port? No super drive? No third USB port? No ports on the right hand side of the computer? No dedicated graphic? No PCI slots? The thing over heats (to 70C +) when watching a few youtube videos...

And the next revision of their MB is going to make it thinner? Add a glass trackpad? With multi touch?

I really think there is a line between making a product that compromises usefulness for looks and a product that is a middle ground between the two.
I think Apple will seriously farther cross the line if their answer to creating a better notebook to compete with PC's (exploding with utilities that also look pretty decent) is a frigging glass track pad.

I agree. It's embarrassing that I can buy computers like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220303 . Of course Apple computers are always gonna be expensive, but there's "expensive" and then "exploitative".

Isn't it breakable from a relatively low-level drop, like the desk in a classroom as someone brushes up against your MB/MBP?

Also, is the glass going to be part of the MBA as well?

Hence the september release. Wouldn't want it getting broken in class now, eh? ;) :D

Sorry, I'm riding out my graduate status as long as possible :p

As cool as touchscreen technology is, I don't see how putting a second screen under/beside the trackpad as being a good thing. I recognize that some people hunt and peck on the keyboard and need to look at it as they type, but do you look at your trackpad when you move your mouse pointer? The added step of looking down at the trackpad at its changing content, looking up at your full size screen, looking down again, really seems complicated, non-productive an very un-Apple like.

I really don't see a market for a full touchscreen laptop or desktop. Constantly moving your hands from your keyboard to your screen would take more time and be quite the workout. Typing on a virtual keyboard would be even worse since you would constantly have to look at it since it will not have tactile feedback.

I really think that touchscreen technology will only work on small portable devices like the iPhone or the rumored Mac tablet.

Wasn't there a rumor going round just before WWDC that these new laptops were suppose to be released then but they fell behind schedule. I remember reading that Steve Jobs was very upset and hence the lack of "one more thing"..

Glass Trackpad and iLife '09

Personally, I don't think the functionality of the trackpad will change drastically. Maybe (just maybe), they'll add a few more multi-touch gestures, but a secondary display? IMO, this is very-un-Apple-esque (lol), as it forces you to glance down from the notebook screen. The rationale behind glass is to create a new surface material for fingers. My MacBook Pro, coming up on its first birthday, has a considerably worn out trackpad. A good cleaning gets rid of a good bit of oils and grease, but it still doesn't have the feel of a new trackpad. Making the trackpad glass eliminates this possibility of wear.

They'll probably treat this launch like that of the iMac revisions last year - releasing new iLife and iWork apps at the same time.

why the hell would apple wait so long to release their new laptops. why wouldnt they try to get the back to school rush where tons of laptops will be sold? they are being so dumb

Uh, that computer only has 2MB cache, slower buss speed, more narrow viewing angle, a lesser OS (Vista Ultimate is the closest equivalent to Leopard). I don't think it has bluetooth or 802.11n wireless capabilities. What's the battery life on that thing? It's also heavier, fatter, thicker, and wider than the MacBook. My point—to determine price comparisons, you need to compare to competitors spec-for-spec, not just throw the cheapest competitor's computer up as an example of how Apple is being "exploitative."

Apple wants to empty its inventory. Every company does this when a new product is coming

I've already posted this, but now it gets more interesting because the following pictures are matching with the description of "Seth Weintraub, the author of 9to5Mac"... Just take a look

Perhaps the form factor.....which we pretty already know that every Mac notebook is going to adopt the MBA rounded edges, common sense. The main point I took from the article was the use of glass in the track pad.

I can wait only until mid September to get my new macbook, so please :apple: release them before sep 22, please.

simple, don't buy one then, i like my macbook because thought has been put into its design, more so then other manufacturers.

2 usb ports is fine i think for a notebook, how many peripherals are you connecting, its not meant to replace your desktop.
