1- It's a Powerbook G5 announcement: just got my 15" last October...

2- It's iTunes Music Store for Europe: hello???? Canada left on the back-burner, eh?

You got nuuuuuuuuuuuuuthing to worry about..
As far as ITMS europe, *cough*whocares

Well, hopefully if it's the Europe iTMS they will just do a world wide launch. So that all of Europe AND Canada, Japan, and wherever else they want to launch. Now THAT will steal Napsters thunder. Oh, and yes Napster beat apple to Europe but they are ONLY in the UK.

jholzner, not targeting you but

Napster came to the UK before Apple...........

That wouldn't have anything to do with this problem of the pricing of songs would it?

And also that Napster might not have taken a stand on this and so they went with the pricing that the music business gave them?

That seems like the only problem that I can see

I don't think the powerpage has EVER been right about any rumor (that they started)

They did have the backlit keyboard but 2 YEARS BEFORE the intro - prolly just speculation.

PowerPage posts rumors for hits. The stories they post are recycled. The website owner Jason O Grady is the rudest clod on the Mac Web.

The website itself is often problematic and comments are often deleted.

I second that. You mind as well quote an anonymous poster from Craig's List......

my current filing is :
on the 15th, Apple announce the new iPod (including 60GB iPod + maybe additional features...video??)
on the 18th : official announcement of iTMS Europe
then on the 21st (overnight), all over Europe it is "music's day", basically one of the biggest night of the year...you can take your intrument, go to the street, and start playing music all night.
Free concerts everywhere...it is simply amazing

So there.

I think you are wrong. It makes perfect sense to announce iTMS Europe a couple of weeks before WWDC. First of all, it is not something that would make sense at WWDC (what the heck do developers care if Europeans can buy music from Apple). Secondly, it will get Apple in the news just in time to make sure everyone is watching when WWDC arrives.

I would be unhappy if they announced the 60GB iPod. The Toshiba announced said they will begin producing the drives in July or August. It is hard to imagine them announcing something that is not going to ship for at least three months on just a random Tuesday. It is one thing at a keynote to say we have this coming soon. It is another to simply announce via press release that there will be 60GB iPod in three months.
I suspect iTMS Europe is the best we can hope for. If it turns out to be a piece of hardware, then there must be something truly spectacular coming at WWDC that they want all the attention on.

I'll agree and say PowerPage has not been right about a rumor in a long long time. If it wasn't for the German publication somewhat making the pieces fit together somewhat, I wouldn't even publish it.

I would have thought the English speaking Canadian and Australia markets would have been easy to do than any other...

Well the iTunes store for Europe would be nice - I look forward to giving it a go.

I noticed that earlier someone was fed up with people outside the US whining about no European iTunes, may I just say firstly I'm not one of them and I can understand why it took so long, but for those of you in the US who think of Europe as a United States of Europe consider this:

Imagine the US compressed into a smaller space, each 'state' having a different language and take on religion, each having it's own political system, varying currencies and tax laws not to mention in some cases centuries of armed conflict - to be honest it's a wonder it's easy to get around Europe as it is - sorting the legal side of iTunes Europe must have been a nightmare.

So for those of you in the US - consider yourself lucky, the European Union 'melting pot' is massivley complex at the best of times (you used to need four types of currency - English, French, Belgium & Dutch - just to drive from the UK to Holland a while back, a distance of about 450 miles...)

I don't think the fact that some countries share a common language makes it any easier for Apple. The biggest problem for Canada has been complex music copyrights (at least from what I can tell....there seems to be a bitter debate whether this great delay is due to Canadian law or Apple's lethargicness-I tend to believe it is the former). Regardless, hopefully all major music markets will get to experience the iTMS in their own backyard soon, including Canada and Australia.

Hang in there as you wait.....

1. Ha Ha

2. Back burner? How many potential customers in Europe? Close to 100 million I think. Canada? No more than a big state in the US.

Hahaha...100 million? The population of the EU is greater than the US! Approximately 375 million people live in the EU compared to about 292 million in the US.

As for Canada, 31 million people are lucky enough to live here. :D I guess that is about the population of California, so you are not far off, though it is not an insignificant number.

Much Bigger Now!

The Cheat, The population of European Union it's much bigger now..
A few moths back, only 15 lands constitute the European Union, Now there are 25..

I don't know the exact population number, but i'm sure that its more bigger now.. Though, I don't think Apple will launch iTMS in all the countries of EU..

yeah but what are the odds of 400million actually buying itunes

plus it would take a while to change hot new to this is new , eh
and rock to rock, eh so on and so on

in europe you can just use translating software, eh

What are the odds of a iTMS for Luxembourg .

I doubt Apple will release a iTMS for Europe or the E.U., but rather for the big three (England/France/Germany) and expand as it sees fit or laws easily permit it to do so. It is hard to compare markets just on population.

Edit: No offense to the Mac user in Luxembourg....:)

but EU had already more inhabitants when it was only 15 lands than US... ;)

a bit weird mention? try to get more info and not rely on CNN knowledge...

a bit like this previous post

Did you hear already about Euro currency??? you know this sign "€"; with a value 1€=1.2US$...already running for more than 2 years in most of the european countries...including Holland, France Belgium...OK not England, but time will come where they will join Euroland...or definately decide to stay away from us...sometime we (other EU countries) really have the filling that UK is simply US representant in Europe, I mean UK / US not much different...just kidding

are you joking??

Are you just kidding or you are definitely ignorant??
come on, in each European country there is already an Apple Store, most European citizen speaks at least one foreign language (hardly the case in US where some even have problem to speak their own native language...) so please do you really think that this is a barrier to iTMS development or extension in Europe??
NO
The real problem is:
- We have different regulations for music DRM from one country to the other
- Music major did not believe in iTMS originally so, they let Apple doing what Steve wanted...and the success was immediately there...now in the US Music Major can not come back, it is too late...so for Europe they are going to ask high price/track and make Apple's life difficult in order to ensure that iTMS Europe success will not drain too much of their profit from standard CD sells...that's it.

maybe more countries

I think you can add Spain, Austria and Italy to your list; regarding Benelux (Belgium, Netherland and Luxembourg) a single iTMS store is possible.

the real question is how Apple will organize it...that local music stars can be found locally on the iTMS...
