After using a Nexus 5 for the past month and then after using a friend's iphone 5 for a couple minutes, I can't believe how small the iphone 5 is. It almost hurts my eyes helping anyone with an iphone! I don't think I can ever return to an iphone, even if they put in a gigantic screen. Android's open OS is far superior for customization and letting me do whatever I want.

32GB or 16GB? Hows the speaker? Does your screen have yellow tint? Comments on the reception vs your last phone? Im still deciding between the Nexus 5 and Moto X so any answers would help, lol

i know your questions weren't directed at me, but i thought i'd chime in on the yellow screen question. the nexus 5 i ordered on launch day had a really, really weak vibration motor. weak enough that i didn't realize haptic feedback was turned on until i went into settings to turn it on. anyway, i called up google support, and they sent me a replacement device that was worse in almost every way. the vibration motor, while stronger, gave off an incredibly loud chirpy sound. the volume buttons were mushy, but worst of all the screen was just piss yellow. it was surprising to see the stark contrast between the two screens since i always thought the first device had very good color reproduction and accurate whites. so bad i had to send back the replacement unit and decided to keep the original one and not play the replacement lottery game.

come monday, i'm buying a moto x.

1.) 16GB

2. Speaker is on the weaker side. I picked a really loud, obnoxious ring tone to be sure I don't miss a call. (it's whatever the 'old school' 'classic' phone tone is)

2.) No detectable yellow tint, as far as I can tell. I'm not sure if I have a phone from a newer batch, or what. I didn't have to do that huge update that many early buyers had to do, either.

3.) Reception seems to be a little on the weak end. My wife is getting 4 bars (or dots) on her phone and my phone is only getting one bar. She was previously on Virgin (Sprint) and I was on AT&T - now we're both on T-Mobile. My previous phone was an iPhone 4, and I usually got 2-3 dots (bars), so I'm a little suspicious of what's going on. I'm going to dig in to see where my nearest tower is.

My wife was super impressed with the Moto X features based on the website, but she didn't want to wait for it to ship from Motorola. I agree that the X has some pretty cool features, and the fact that it runs pretty close to stock Android is an awesome plus.

Of course, I do have to say that my experiences with the N5 echo everyone else's - the camera is great when the subject is non-moving; otherwise, the focus is woefully slow and inadequate. If Google really is working on a software fix, that would be pretty great.

Overall, I think that you can't go wrong with either the X or the N5. I know I'm incredibly happy with my N5 because my previous phone was a tiny screened, single core iPhone 4. It's been an absolute joy to consume media over the past couple of days in comparison with my old phone.

Good luck!

You definitely can, but you have to enable it in the 'security' tab in settings, first.

Thank you for making my decision easy! I have an iPhone 5S on T-mobile, and my reception its about one bar worse than on the 5 which wasn't that great at all. I'll be picking up a Moto X on Monday!

Im doing the same, I was sort of hoping that most of the hardware issues with the Nexus 5 would have been worked out by now, but I have no intentions of playing the return game with google. Thanks

Are you comparing the actual signal strength in dBm as well? The bars are not going to be consistent between manufacturers. Shoot Apple redid how their bars are displayed with the iPhone 4S (right or was it the 5).

Another LG phone with poor RF performance. Why am I not surprised?

Can Google go back to using quality OEMs for their Nexus devices? Or just put the Nexus line into Motorola.

I just checked. -115 dBm, 27 asu.

What does this mean, exactly?

After seeing the Nexus 5 in person in pretty pissed about the issues because it is the perfect size. I wonder if the same issues on att?

It means your signal is terrible.

I just had a look at T-mobile's coverage map - it looks like for both 4G LTE/HSPA and voice, my home is in 'satisfactory', the lightest shade of green possible. Oof. At least my office is 'excellent'..or so we'll find out tomorrow.

My battery life sucks.....worse than I remember the Nexus 4 being....Google Play Services drain it like crazy.

Sucks that these cool Google Now features also kill your battery in half a day...

weird, I get great battery. I still am at 94% and have been on battery since 6 am EST

Mine is on order, I hope the battery, speaker, and camera aren't too terrible for the price.

Any recommendations for a hardcore protective case? I don't care if it's a bit bulky, just protect well against things like dropping it. I probably don't care about having a screen protector, scratches generally haven't been an issue for me.

I'm currently at 85%.....

2h 53m on battery
41% Google Play Services
14% Wifi
12% Phone Idle
11% Email
8% Cell Standby
7% Android OS
7% Screen

Something is not right. I have all services enabled and my Google play services is at 9%

What do you recommend? Complete restore? I set the thing up brand new....

Granted I haven't used the phone at all today, which is why a 15% drain is so irritating. It's literally just been sitting on my desk.

EDIT: My location mode is set for "High Accuracy"....should I reduce it to "battery saving mode" or are you able to get decent battery life with the high accuracy mode?

Its funny, I'm really not a power user. Moderate battery life is generally plenty for me....which is what makes the current battery life so bad....

mine is also set to high accuracy. I would do a restore. I am a light to moderate user and my stats are as follows with 87% battery 6h 3m on battery and 42m screen time:

screen: 33%
voice calls: 17%
google play services: 9%
wifi: 9%
phone idle: 7%
android os: 7%
cell standby: 5%
chrome: 4%
android system: 4%
sensors.qcom: 2%

Ugh....alrighty. FWIW, my screen time is 8 minutes, so the percentages could be skewed somewhat. Still, I'm down to 81% after only 3.5 hours on battery....at this rate, my phone would only last about 12-14 hours on standby.....with almost NO screen on time or usage.....

Even with my N4 I was able to get about 5-6 hours on screen and 15-20 hours on battery total.

Yeah that is far from normal. I can push mine 40ish hours on battery if it is idle. I easily get through an entire day.

I've been having bad battery luck lately....seems my iPhone 5s has been sporadic when it comes to battery life too.....some days its amazing, others its moderately good.

But as I said, even moderate battery life is enough for me. My N5 has just been plain awful.

I'll do a restore when I head to lunch and see if that helps solve the problem. I tell you what, if Apple creates a "Note" type larger phone with some form of cool new features to take advantage of the display/stylus built in, I'd just ditch Android and buy one of those.

Only reason I don't have a 5C and 5s is because they are too similar.....and the reason I don't have a Note 3 is Touchwiz....all-in-all, I really want to love the Nexus 5.....but if Apple offers a different enough larger iPhone, my Nexus 5 is going in the drawer only to come out when I want a "change of pace".

I think I'm experiencing smartphone upgrade fatigue! lol

I actually ordered a moto x b.c the n5 is a little too big for me. I do have small hands and somewhere between 4.2 and 4.7" is perfect (unless they can fit even more screen in these smaller phones). I really like the added features as well. I use the "ok google" command all of the time on my n5.

Random, but I am totally shocked apple has not added a stylus for the ipad.

Flash the factory images, you should easily get better battery life then the N4. My Nexus 5 also has a high percentage of drainage from Google play services but im getting great standby and SOT. Im currently at 2 days standby with 1.5 hous SOT and ive still got 35% battery left.
