Big Wallet announcement? I wonder what that will be...

I am really interested in the N5 but I am just concerned it's going to be TOO big. I really enjoyed my N4 but even that felt like it was pushing it size-wise for me. Unless they are using some wizardy I expect the N5 to be bigger physically than the N4, which is disappointing.

I also wonder if the Chromecast SDK will finally be released tomorrow.

Full screen mode that allows you to hide the Navigation bar?

This one single feature would make people who hate the nav bar so happy. Not just for the Nexus 5, but for the Nexus 7 and 10 too. Google is listening.

Me too. Reward zone points! And I guess easier returns should the need arise.

I would consider something like the Nexus 5 as a replacement for my disappointing GS4 if it was sold in Best Buy with with a reasonable markup.

But I need to be able to get my hands on it and see what it's all about before making such a decision. Without that I can just as easily get an iPhone 5S and Retina iPad Mini and call it day.

I hear ya. For a number of reasons, Google would be wise to also allow vendors to sell the Nexus 5. I hope Best Buy gets it at the same price too (it'd be utterly stupid if they marked it up).

Having said that, Google Play Store returns are fairly painless. As easy as Amazon returns. Just print the free return label, stick it over the original box, and have your UPS guy pick it up. If you see him on your block, you can literally go up to him and hand it to him. If not, drop it off at a nearby UPS location.

I had to do it three times when I had to exchange my Nexus 4 earlier in the year. Google's CS was friendly and very easy to work with, and return process (exchange process, really) was smooth. Ultimately made a full return, got the money credited back within under two weeks, if I remember correctly.

But I guess if you're on the fence between this and the iPhone, I can see why lack of access would sway you the other way. Good luck. Except for the physical home button, I never thought the S4 suited you anyway.

Best Buy doesnt have markups on the other Google products. Actually any store that sells a Nexus 7 has them for the same price as the playstore. Only T-Mobile marked up the Nexus 4 a little.

If it's marked up, I personally will refuse to buy from Best Buy. I rather wait for it to be back in stock on the Play Store than give into their shenanigans.

I don't think they'll mark it up, though.

For full disclosure, I'm sitting on several hundred dollars in Best Buy gift cards. It's playing a small role in my decision making process :p

Well now that we assume Best Buy will be handling things, lets move on to the reveal. I'm watching out for deal breakers that normally wreck the Nexus phones...bad cameras and battery life...

Now that I think about it, this actually makes perfect sense. In Android's stock Gallery, if you let an image sit for a second or two, it goes into a semi-full screen mode. All the menus slide away, and the navigation bar turns into three subtle and discrete dots. It only makes sense to also make nav bar slide down and away too.

Then, to bring everything back, you'd have to tap on the screen and all your controls slide back.

The curious thing though is how to initiate full screen mode. Will it only be in certain apps (like Chrome or Gallery or Maps or YouTube)?

Should be interesting.

i returned my gpe galaxy s4 this summer, and the return process wasn't as smooth. i called up to return on the last eligible day, but the csr i spoke to said i'd missed it by a day which kind of confused me. i reminded her of the number of days in the return policy and counted from the date of delivery. still, she couldn't make it happen, escalated my case and told me someone would be in touch with me shortly. a week goes by before i get an email from someone asking for the imei. i promptly responded, and then another week later i got an email asking me to return the phone (for which i'd receive a refund minus 15% restocking, roughly $100). so i send it back another week plus goes by before i get any sort of confirmation that they received my package and issued my refund almost a month after my initial request. the whole lack of communication was a bit of a turnoff. i guess i could have been a little more proactive and called them about it, but the entire process could have taken a couple hours if there was a brick and mortar store i could take it to.

The on-screen buttons on Nexus devices are extremely annoying when playing games, especially in landscape mode...and while there are mods to hide it when doing certain things, having native support for it would be great.

agreed. a 5" nexus device that has onscreen buttons is really like having a 4.8" screen.

I think instead of having the nav bar come out and push all the content on screen it should just being transparently on top of the screen. It was always annoying watching stuff on Android and having the nav bar pop up and push the video in.

That sucks. Sorry to hear :T

I'm beginning to think the full screen mode will only be available in certain apps.

And probably not for games. It'd constantly come up then if it comes back with a tap. Or, there'd be no way to get it to come up.

Maybe it's gesture based? Slide up to bring it up? There are apps that are like that that work REALLY well, like Swipe Home, one of my most favorite apps on Android that has fundamentally changed the way I use my HTC One: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.matthewma.swipehomebuttonfree&hl=en

That'd be neat. Heh. It's fun to dream.

i mean, in the end it all worked out. i got my return and all my money, and i wound up using the s4 for a full month before sending it back. i will add, though, that google was very good about a nexus 4 that stopped recognizing my sim card. they sent me a new phone the next day and a box to send back the old one in. if i was to buy another nexus device, it would be through google and not best buy.

No it wouldn't. You seem to have a pattern of thinking things left to the developers is the answer. It just creates more inconsistency. People who don't like the navigation bar don't like it because it is taking up usable screen real estate. If you are browsing the web, reading through feedly, playing a game, actively viewing pictures, typing in landscape, using G+, etc., the navigation button is taking up space system wide. I don't see how this would fix that at all.

The best fix for still having navigation buttons would be if the nav buttons take up .25", then make the bottom bezel .25" smaller. Then with nav buttons, the usable screen size is the same, button are in the exact position physical buttons would be, and you will have a symmetrical device.

A prime example being the Nexus 7. You lose a bit of screen at the top and bottom.

Browsing Macrumors in Chrome as an example. In landscape it makes the viewing area narrow as hell. A real "full screen mode" that removes the status bar and navbar would do wonders for user experience and create less of a peering through window blind effect.
