I have decided to sent the Nexus back. Two reasons mainly: The disappointing hardware (or uninspiring), and the fact that I have an HTC One M8 ,that has a 5" screen..I don't really need a tablet. For everything else I can use my Macbook Air.

Since I love Gadgets though I will keep an eye on the market and if a top quality tablet comes out, then I will buy it.

The Nexus 7 is almost year old budget tablet. The HTC M8 is a brand new top of the line smartphone. You can't compare the two.

The Nexus 7 is best used as an ebook reader or for movies on the go. reading on a 5" phone is decidedly less fun.

Even though it's a great little workhorse for the price, I wasn't that blown away by the N7 either. But let's remember also that it is almost a year old now. I'm looking forward to seeing what Google comes up with this year, hoping that they start bringing all their devices together more in terms of design - I wouldn't mind a 8" Nexus 8 with a slightly sharper look, more in line with the N5.

Doesn't Sammy and others have new HD tabs in that size coming out? I have a Tab 3 8.0 and it's fine, great size and form factor, screen is "ok" but the S5 is in another league, wish is had an HD screen like my S5. Read Sammy has those Tab 3s coming in HD across the line. Love my Tab 3 for traveling though and watching movies on a plane vs grabbing the Mac.

I disabled what I don't use or need, and have a micro sd so no worry there on storage, even with what I installed there's plenty of internal storage, I don't have 300 games (actually no games on my phones, only a handful on my tablet) or 500 apps like some do which I don't even know what the hell people do with hundreds of apps lol. Oh noes, changed the font and installed a small icon pack.... I have zilch memory and ram now  Even with all the bloat there's no lag and incredible battery life, didn't see any difference disabling stuff. AT&T bloat is absolutely useless though, who the hell is gonna pay for and use AT&Ts Nav over free and much better Google Nav lol. I know how TW works, I always root and flash, I chipped in to the bounty on xda for verizon/at&t root their working on. Had vanilla Android on my S2, no thanks, Shostock was far far better, as was Omni and few others I tried, go figure Shostock was the most stable and worked awesome and its TW based lol.

In the mean time I'll use my gimmicky S5 and slick and smooth 3D scrolling in Prime and borring icons and font and setup that may make you Puke, cheers :D

Every one has his tastes ... I don't like at all what you did in that screenshot, but that is just a question of personal tastes and it isn't disputable ...
I'm speaking about the TW behind. You can say that you have no lags, but I know lags and stuttering are here. There are lags even on stock android.
I can live with it, and surely you can do the same ....
The only Samsung I would buy is a GPE.

High quality android tablets will come, but not at the Nexus' price ...

Nexus 5 share the same uninspiring look of the nexus 7 ....

Nexus devices are meant to be quite powerful but cheap.

Galaxy Tab 4 8" tablets are a joke compared with Nexus 7.
If he wasn't satisfied by a Nexus 7, that sports a Snapdragon 600 CPU, 2 Gb of ram, fast NAND and a top class hires display, he can't be satisfied by a Tab 4 8" (not to speak about the 7" that is worse ...).

The only tablet he could consider, made by Samsung, is the a Tab Pro 8.4,mb it it costs much more.

I still have my 2nd Gen Nexus 7 but it has a cracked screen. I don't know if I'm willing to pay for a replacement when it's almost the same cost of the device. The build quality definitely leaves a lot to be desired. Would I purchase another one? Probably not.

Install something else on an already bloated operative system .... What a great idea :D
You can change the launcher, but you can't get rid of touchwiz until you root and flash a custom ROM ....

Assside from the TW launcher which i dont like, i dont have a problem with the rest of TW. I like a lot of it like the contacts, calender and dialer. The TW calender is way better than stock Google.

For me It was the cheapest way to try stock KitKat .... And I'm quite satisfied by it.
Would I buy another one (or next model) ? I don't know.
I'm seriously considering to substitute both my small tablet (nexus 7) and secondary phone (Lumia 925) with a single phablet of 6"

I'd be interested if HTC is still rumored to make a Nexus 8. Even though their tablet track record isn't all that great.

I have NEVER seen ANY lag on my Nexus 5.
How have you had stock KitKat lag?

Anyway as to the topic... well fair enough if you don't like it, sell it, but it's not fair to consider the Nexus 7 as cheap just because it's price is, it's a very well built device. I have the 2012 one and use it every single day and I love it. It works great for me and is dependable and well made and performs great, at the time it was better than the iPad Mini with screen and CPU, the GPU of the iPad pipped it.

But having had one, I don't know if I would buy anything other than Nexus for Android.
I have read different rumours about this years Nexus, some say HTC are making an 8" one, others proclaim Asus are still making a 7" one with the new K1 chip.

Guess we'll have to wait and see?

If it has similar quality with the HTC One M8, then I will buy it as soon as it's out.

I don't think we are going to see high quality tablets from HTC, because if they don't change their policy, Nexus devices are supposed to be quite low cost, with good hw specs.

I hope this year we get a Nexus 8. Something like a LG G Pad 8.3 play edition with a snapdragon 800 and 3 gigs of RAM.

The 7" screen and 16:10 aspect ratio just don't work for me. Being larger with more width to the screen would help with landscape usage.

Yeah, the LG G Pad GPE was close to ideal--16:10 ratio is a better experience at 8.3", great build materials/quality, expandable memory is a bonus. Only issue I had with it is the display color was too warm in tone and a touch less bright when compared to the Nexus and iPad Mini.

Yeah it had to be better than stock LG version. LG's skin with its OTT animations was sooooooo annoying for me.. Jeez I thought Touchwiz was bad until I saw LG's interface.... :)

I do agree, Lg is worse than Samsung on this. I tried a g2 and the UI was really a mess ....

LG's UI puts it out of consideration for me.

Yes the G2 is fast, but the interface just lack coherence and is very messy.

The current version of touchwiz is much cleaner, flatter and more accessible. Didn't take long for me to get the S5 exactly where I wanted it performance wise.

I just bought the Nexus 7 2013 about a week ago. I've been an iPad user since day one. Currently have the third generation iPad, which is adequate, but has lost some of its pizzazz in the past couple years.

That said, I'm finding the Nexus 7 to be a fun little device. This is my third Android tablet and the fIrst one I really like. Oddly the first two were also made by Asus. But the Nexus 7 is the first one not hindered by bugs and sluggishness. I do miss the connector ports the Asus Transformer's have. But it is not a dealer breaker, IMHO...

I'm concerned about the USB port reliability. So far the connector is not loose, but then it's only been a week!

One thing in Android's favor, IMHO, is alternative keyboards. It is insane that Apple doesn't open up alternative keyboards on iOS. In fact, I'm typing this post using the Swype keyboard. Apple please get your act together.

However, I do think iPad apps are superior to Android tablet apps. Android doesn't have very many apps truly optimized for tablets. Instead many are phone apps stretched onto larger tablet screen. But it is not too bad on a smaller 7" screen.

So far I like my Nexus 7. But I'll need to see how well the device holds up after a few months of regular use.

I'm really happy with my nexus 7 having it for some time now I must say that it works for me like a charm, since I own it I have 3 crashes most if them from bad apps, the battery life is decent if I use it a lot I can easily go 3 days without charging, the Google keyboard is working just fine, no problems typing on it, in a nutshell IMO the nexus 7 is a pretty nice tablet for my needs :)

Try Swype keyboard. You'll be amazed. It's the fastest.

The touchscreen problem is due to a hardware problem many Nexus 7 have. You just didn't know it before buying it.

Go to XDA and you'll find a fix called TS files. They make the touchscreen work better.

The battery problem is not normal. My Nexus 7 battery looses 3% in 24 hours in standby. I get 6-8 hours SOT every day. I'm satisfied, although it's not as good as the IPad. This is due to iOS not having background processes, not having true multitasking, not having apps working in the background.

I prefer having a little bit less battery to have a mobile OS like Android work like a computer OS (with an accessible file browser like someone before said).

Stock Android can be boring, but at least it's fast and you can try different roms if you get bored.

Oh, and whenever you get bored think this: you're getting updates.

Not true anymore. IOS has true multitasking in iOS 7. Many apps run in the background now.

My nexus 7 still doing well and battery works like yours.

I like both materials Asus used on the rear of the Nexus 7 from 2012 & 2013. The Nexus 5 looks alot like the N7 from last year. I like that soft touch.

I think HTC did alot of things right with their Sense skin. I actually was planning to update my M7 from the original 4.1.2 it came with to 4.4 KitKat because I want to use AcDisplay and rid of virtual menu buttons forever so all my apps shows a slide animation using Nova, but read from alot of owners whether Galaxy, One, Nexus, Xperia, Moto, etc that 4.4.2 was a terrible update and ruined their phones. I prefer to always keep the original firmware it came with it.

iOS 7 has a somewhat better multitasking than iOS 6, but it's not true multitasking..

It is real multitasking. I suggest you do research instead of posting false information. Not our problem some APPS don't utilize the new API to use the running in background function. But it is real multitasking if they use it.
