I just put my order in. I currently have the non AT&T version and love it. I can't wait for tomorrow for the Fed Ex man to deliver my new Nexus One. BTW my current N1 is going up for sale on ebay today.

Have you had any of the 3G/Touchscreen rumors I've read so much about?

Let us know how the new one works when it comes in tomorrow!

I find Sense UI to be a little bit obnoxious. I also prefer the look of the Vanilla android to it as well.

My brother has a Hero (Sense UI) and my parents have the Samsung Moment (Vanilla) and I definitely like the feel of the keyboard in particular on the Sense UI as opposed to the Vanilla UI. I found the OSK for vanilla Android sluggish and the Sense UI OSK almost as quick as the iPhone one.

That's just my feel of it though...

So i am dictating this on a google nexus 1. Therefore, let me beat very, very clear. This phone has the worst touch screen on any smart phone i have ever used. The phone is very very glitchy and the problem is there is very little support for its problems from google.

To anyone interested in buying a google nexus 1 please please please take a look at googles very own help forums for the google nexus 1 before you buy.

Don't get me wrong I love l&l the iPhones I've had. Just time for a change, I don't want to feel limited anymore and I don't want to jailbreak my phone anymore to do the things I expect it to do.
I just put my 3GS on craigslist for 530 and someone will be buying it tomorrow. I expect to have my N1 for AT&T within the next 2-3 days. We will see how it goes.

i plan to do this too

i love my iphone too, but id like try something different

i had a g1 before and it was nice, but the hardware was terrible, and android i much more developed now

plus i really like google

That's good news; I can now use it with my current operator. Unfortunately Google's site won't sell to NZ, so I wonder what the holdup is :(

Well I didn't read this before, or about the other problems N1 owners have until now. I might double think this for sure. I'll probably end up keeping my 3GS

how is the usability with the iPhone compared to the n1? Glitchy? As smooth as
an iPhone? It seems people have a mixed feeling with the N1

The touch screen on that and 1 is not even close to the iphone. If it was just that, i think i would still go for the google nexus 1. The google nexus 1 can do more than the iphone when paired with google services such as trails, navigation, voice, dictation, maps, etc. And the freedom to multitask is really good. Every day i do things that i could not do on the iphone. However, the phone crashes every day as well. Maybe twice a day the touch screen goes ballistic and does not accept input properly clicking on random icons that are nowhere near where you are clicking. And of course i discover that the touch screen is not working when i need to make a call or during a call. I also discovered now how horrible google vs non existent customer service is. It's worse than at&t. I would pay 100 dollars more for this phone if i could buy it from apple and know that apple would take care of the situation if things didn't work. Please think long and hard before jumping into googles lap. By the way, this entire message was dictated, not typed into my google nexus 1. But for what it's worth, I will be returning it and buying the iphone 4G when it comes out.

thanks for that response that definitely did a lot. If you had the chance to get you're 3GS back would you, or just keep going with the N1? Does the android devices have updates? As like, will they have an update to fix all the glitches and what not and with the screen you were talking about?

This sounds pretty consistent with what ive read. Ill be waiting until I know these issues have been resolved. Thanks.

I've had some time to play with the Nexus One and I have a few points I'd like to talk about.

The hardware is better on paper (higher res screen, thinner, faster, more ram), however, the software is not quite there. The 3GS is still faster at browsing in my experience. The keyboard isn't as good, the music player doesn't compare, its still somewhat glitchy feeling.

However, with that being said, I really think Apple needs to step it up for iPhone 4 in order to really separate itself from Andriod and now the upcoming 7 Series Phone.

At the end of the day I still believe the iPhone is the better phone overall, but the Nexus One is still amazing.

I'm still waiting for iPhone 4

the fact that it's unlocked is really attractive. I hate having a software unlocked iPhone. You give up all support and warranty just to be able to use another network. I might consider it if there is a good program to sync music and podcasts to nexus one. So far no one has been able to tell me how they sync the phone.

Google has acknowledged that they know about the touch screen issue since January. They have not had any updates whatsoever. If you call the company with a touchscreen issue, you get very little support other than being so nice as to connect you to the HTC representative. Knowing that there are thousands of people with this issue as evidenced by this thread:

http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/android/thread?tid=04134c63c784258e&hl=en

and knowing that in the user agreement with Google that you sign in order to get a nexus one, it states that the replacements under warranty are refurbished, let me pose a question to this forum: If Google's official position is that they don't know what is causing the touch screen problem and you are the HTC service department who is getting a bunch of phones from users complaining about intermittant touch screen issues, what happens with those phones that you get?

The answer is that you recycle the phones back to the people sending them to you. How can you test for something that is intermittant and not determined to be a hardware/software issue?

WELCOME TO THE GOOGLE UNIVERSE. This is the crap that I have been dealing with during the past two weeks of my Google experience. This is why I am going to return my second phone before the 30 day trial even ends. I can't stand this piece of crap and the horrible service backing it up. I wish I had an iPhone 3GS.

And I'm saying this despite the fact that my fiancee is overseas and I use google voice to call her every day (for next to nothing). The big benefit of the Nexus one is the seamless integration with google voice. So I just dial and it does everything else. Yes, I can do this on the iphone, but I have to use a stupid web page just because Mr. Jobs doesen't like Google. This is my number one gripe about the iphone, but it's essentially the same as most gripes people have with the iphone ("walled garden", etc.).

However, I would argue that having to go through a web page and do about 5 extra clicks to make a call to my fiancee is better than having to restart a phone before I dial or worse yet, be having the touch screen issue when i'm on a call and need to look something up.

Finally, to all those who think they are going to like their Nexus One, please read a page or two in the above forum link before buying the phone (and getting yourself on the hook for the return fee that you will still be charged for your defective phone):

again, that link is right here:

That is another reason why I hesitate in getting a Nexus One. If I have a problem, how do I get it taken care of? Even though I have to make an appointment at the Apple Store, I love the fact that I can take it somewhere to get it looked at and have it replaced instantly.
