Playing around with my AT&T N1 right now and have no 3G or touchscreen issues at all.

That's a good sign. The only two touchscreen devices that I've used are an iPod Touch and a Nokia 5800, and the 5800 is definitely inferior (you almost have to press, rather than touch). Do light touches work on your N1 or does it require more force than an iPod/iPhone?

The 5800 uses a resistive touchscreen, where you have to actually press down to register presses.

The iPhone, Nexus One, T-Mobile G1, Palm Pre, etc. use capacitive technology, so that the screen registers touches when your finger hits the glass... no need to press down.

It's about the same as an iPhone, I haven't noticed me using any more force.

Apparently, this person over on the Nexus One Forums is having 3G issues with his phone as well as the screen issues.

Nexus One Forum thread HERE.

EDIT: It seems 2 people in that same thread have no problems with their 3G on AT&Ts network. I guess n=3 doesn't tell us much so far...

EDIT: absolutely no 3G or touch screen issues on my AT&T Nexus One. What an amazing device!

I'm willing to bet that he will. Not on the basis that he'll miss his iPhone but that the hardware will not live up to his expectations.

So what did you do with your N1 then? Tell us please

Maybe it's because I came from an iPhone 3G and not a 3GS, but the Nexus One is noticeably faster in everything. Downloads, webpage rendering, moving around the UI, you name it, it's faster. The screen is amazing, the camera is better, call quality is great. My only annoyance? The lock button is on the left side of the phone, and I hold my phone in my left hand, so it's not right under my thumb like it was on the iPhone where it was on the right. That is the only complaint I have about the N1 and it is an annoyance I can live with. And it is by no means a fault of the phone, it's just personal preference. I bet some people hate the lock button on the right of the iPhone.

A rare few phones* have resistive screens that are so sensitive, they work with feather light touches akin to capacitive... yet also work with fingernails, gloves or stylus.

To me, they're the BOBW, with the minor failing of being a little more sensitive to scratches than glass-fronted screens (so you must use a shield).

* I've only found two such devices: a Samsung i730 and an HTC Imagio/Whitestone

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

Aside from the fact that I don't want to use google's services (basically making android a permanent non-starter for me), the problem here is they sell it only at the full price but don't offer any discount on the monthly bill like t-mo does. So that's going to end up being one expensive phone.

yes, it's because you came from a 3G. Not a fair comparison. I went from a 2g (same processor/RAM) to a 3gs, and it's an enormous difference, especially with os 3 (the older iPhones ran more smoothly on 2). My gf still has my old 2g, and the difference between them is substantial.

Mine will be here tomorrow.

I really liked my time with the Droid, but Verizon's network, while amazing at home, sucked really bad at my work. So I'm excited to see how this one works out for me. I think Android + iPad might be the perfect mobile media setup for me.

No way, you're ditching the iPhone??? Traitor!!!:p

I'm just kidding, I hope it works out better for you. :)

i just got my replacement Google Nexus One today. I had complained to HTC about the touchscreen and requested a replacement under warranty. They sent me the replacement, which was a refurbished unit full of skin/dust in the cracks. It had touch screen issues right out of the box. I couldn't believe it. It was completely unusable. I couldn't even sign in on the first two attempts. So I called them back and asked to return both. I have to wait 10 days until my ticket clears. I am sick and tired of saying that I wish I had an iphone so what I did just now is order an iphone. Yes, there will be a 10 day overlap and yes, I'm close to the update but at this point i just don't give a damn anymore.

I love the screen on this phone. I hope the new iPhone gets a better screen because it is definitely lacking in this department.

Your phone had skin in the cracks?

I have had the Nexus One for awhile now. I do really like it. But I would not give up my iPhone for it. I bought one when it first came out. So no 3G for me here in Canada, but I still really love the phone. It does have some problems with touch. It still needs a good update to make it great!! But my advice to anyone on this thread would be to get one if you want but hang on to your iPhone. Best of both worlds.;) I go between both phones all the time. The screen is amazing on the Nexus.

I am not too worried about the hardware (newer always better) on the New iPhone due July 2010. It's the software that I am concerned. Will Apple be able to outdo google for voice control/activation/dictation (in multiple languages), multi task, navigation, more cloud sync (at least make MobileMe cheaper).....

what can the New iPhone do that will WOW us? not just match Nexsus One.

yeah, most dust is actually skin flakes. that's why it's white. On one hand it's really gross, but on the other hand, we're exposed to that our whole lives so it's not big deal. But yes, the cracks of the phone around the battery had dust, lint, and skin fragments lodged in there. yummy.

here's another reason not to swtich to Android.

Malware found on second Vodafone HTC Magic

When Panda Security found malware on a brand new Android-based Vodafone HTC Magic earlier this month, Vodafone said it was an "isolated local incident." Now, a second phone has been found harboring malware, including a program that turns infected machines into zombies as part of the Mariposa credit card and bank log-in-stealing botnet, according to Spain-based PandaLabs.

Do you do your research, or do you just spew this trash all across the fourm?

Firstly, the "malware" didn't affect the phone. Secondly, it was determined that it was a returned phone because the SD card that wasn't the same one that ships with the Magic.

Wow, what a company. Maybe over time it will get better? So you will be on your 3rd coming up then? If this doesn't turn out like it should I'm guessing you will be coming to the 3gs again?

exactly that's what I did. I just bought a 3gs a few hours ago. I know the refresh is coming up, but the nexus one didn't work out and the prospect of playing musical chairs with used phones didn't seem to be worth the time. For those who managed to snag a good phone and don't seem to have or don't seem to mind their touchscreen, I think its a great phone with many features that the iphone lacks. for me though, the daily routines of shut down and restart, frustration while trying to dial a 4 and having 7 be pressed when calling someone was too much.

That N1 seemed very unstable for you which I know can become very irritating. I wouldn't be able to deal with that either. I like the, "just works" of the iPhone capabilities. Still waiting for hands on videos for the N1 for AT&T. Surprised one isn't out yet.

The unlocked cost is what is keeping me from seriously considering the N1, plus given the hoops you need to jump through for support.

I think google is on the right track with the phone and OS, I don't think they're quite there yet.

There's too much going for the iPhone for me right now. As I type this post, I'm listening to my music that was synced from iTunes. I have a series of pictures of my twins on the phone that I can look at, this was easily synced with iTunes because of aperture/itunes integration.

I'm not bashing the N1, but rather, the features are not quite there for me to sacrifice that type of integration quite yet. If google fixes the short comings of the N1, then they'll have a real contender on their hands.
