As an iPhone 4 user I have to agree with Tarzan.

Multitasking on the iPhone is god awful, most of the apps don't support it yet, the ones that do.. well it depends on the developer on how well that goes, and anything that needs to keep a steady connection can't do it.. it's a sad excuse for "multitasking". The only reason anyone would release something this horribly done is just to market the product for having the feature.. to bad it doesn't tell you how bad it is.

The High Res Display is gimmicky, it's overkill and anyone who disagrees is either a troll or way to far a fanboy to admit it. 960x640 in a 3.5" display is not only retarded, it's pointless.

Also Ajarn, Video Calling is highly popular in Europe and has been around for decades. And on Android unlike the iPhone it can connect to any other user with the operating system and over the 3G connection too. I can't blame Apple for this though since ATnT has to have played some part in the WiFi only Facetime, but my other guess is that it's choppy when in 3G so anything that isn't perfection is unallowed.. that's more likely.

Either way I don't wanna argue to much, but the whole battle is pointless when Android is clearly the faster platform, not only that it's updates add leaps and bounds off features that are just pushing the whole field forward. Also personally my next phone will probably be an Android, not because I don't like the iPhone, don't get me wrong it's great, but I find it a little silly that I had to Jailbreak this phone inorder for it to be useable. I guess I just like options, I'd love to have an option if I wanted too or not have Flash instead of being restricted so the device can have more battery life inorder to look better than the competition... it's just silly how many limits there are to this phone in order for it to look smooth and perfect...

O'well different strokes for different folks.

Is Google customer service still non-existent? If you have problem with your phone, where do you bring it to?

With the Nexus One, you had to contact Google. Since the Nexus S is going to be offered by retailers (Best Buy, at least), then you will be able to bring it there for repair or replacement.

Given Best Buy's track record, it will probably be less hassle to insist on a replacement for a malfunctioning phone.

How about five? Droid X, Droid Incredible, Samsung Vibrant, Samsung Epic, HTC MyTouch HD. Hmm, so the iPhone 4's build quality is so great that Apple had to give out free bumpers to mitigate the effects of their design flaw?

Unfortunately for this theory, Android phones have eclipsed both the hardware and the software of the iPhone.

Dude are you kidding me? Like seriously man be realistic. Those phones you mention above can't even match iPhone's build quality. Most of the phones above are made out of plastic, are thicker and bulkier, have inferior screen quality and can't even go a single day without recharging. Every single review in this virtual world says that the iphone has the best hardware and industrial design in the market right now and the best integration of software and hardware.

Android vs iOS is a matter of preference. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but no other phone is better than the iphone in terms of industrial design and you have to accept that.

Now i would love to see Samsung and HTC and even Palm offer some great hardware to match with their already great software and something that can truly rival the iPhone in terms of quality.

IMO the Gingerbread 2011 Samsung flagship phone looks very promising. Hopefully they will use upscale materials unlike in the Galaxy S. I want it to take the crown away from the iPhone as the slimmest smartphone in the planet.

On the other hand i think its time for Apple to offer more flavours of the iphone. Android is already chewing into their market-share so more options bring in more adopters. A 99$ iPhone Nano and a 4.3" iphone would actually be great.

Ajarnafalang, I've said this before and I'll say it again- remove the Apple stickers from your eyes. Seriously, stop making up 'facts' (lagging Galaxy S? Haahhah. Why doesn't mine lag?)

I never said YOUR Galaxy s lagged.

The world doesn't revolve around YOU.

I am posting MY experience with it. Both times I use it. 2 different Galaxy S phones they were both laggy.

It didn't surprise me. Why? Go to google and type "galaxy s lag issue". Thousands of hits will come up.

Here is actually a "galaxy s lag fix" that you can download.

Why do you find it necessary to keep defending your phone and repeating yourself. I am simply posting my experience and what I think.

You don't agree. Great. Now get a life and move on. It's just a phone.

Yes, Samsung's software is utter crap. But Samsung won't touch the software of the Nexus S, it'll be pure vanilla Android.

Never try Galaxy S but Galaxy Tab I tried (yes, the one with the famous 7") lagged sooooo bad. Never claim it'd be universal though, but enough for my wife to swear against anything Android (and she loves that small screen).

I'm intrigued by it.

I had an N1, now a Droidx, and there are things I miss on the Nexus.

As others stated, you get the updates as soon as google releases them. I had 2.2 in the may/june time frame. I got a Droid X in July and it took a full 2 months to get 2.2. I'm still waiting for 2.2.1 to fix some pesky bugs.

The other advantage I like was that it was easily rootable and load custom roms.

I liked the looks of the original Nexus, this one, not so much. Given that I have to wait until July before my contract ends, I'll have to sit on the sidelines and wait.

I'm not hating my Droidx, in fact its a good phone, but there are aspects of the nexus I miss. No phone is perfect (even the iPhone) and you have to weigh the advantages/disadvantages with your must haves, and wants. For me the DX provided a lot of the must haves.

Multitouch still is the best and most responsive on iPhone. After playing with the Captivate and my stepdad's Droid X, you can see pinch to zoom was instant and silky smooth on iPhone more. After playing with the Samsung Focus and HTC Surround, I actually think WP7 is more responsive. Just feels barren without apps. Give it time. My favorite OS other than iOS is webOS. Just too bad the hardware sucks on those Palm phones and the specs and screen size feel outdated even if the successor gets released. Android feels a bit sluggish from a software standpoint and fragmented, but hardware is still being pushed faster than any competitor right now. We will see 1.2Ghz to dual cores from a Tegra 2 eventually on Androids.

http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/11/is-this-the-nexus-s/

I don't get all the Android phones coming out... that's asking for a world of hurt. Verizon's already released 5 phones just this week! Personally, I feel Android will become the new dumb-phone OS, but will also exist on the high-end as well. 5 different app stores (and counting), custom skins, varying hardware, etc. etc. Ugh is all I can think of. What has Google done? "Completely open" doesn't sound good anymore...

Side-note: While I'm at it, I agree with some analysts when they say they're will be a top three. My bet is iOS, Android, and either Palm WebOS or WP7. Thoughts?

Edit: Engadget just keeps coming today - http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/11/this-is-the-nexus-s/

All I can say is that this nexus s looks ugly and cheap.

HTC's build quality and customer service are crap. Look at all the problems the Nexus One had, and all the problems people had getting HTC to fix their phone.

I'm so sick of statements of 'I checked it out and it was laggy, it sucked'

I'm sorry but going into a competitor carrier's store and checking out the phone at the kiosk for 5 minutes doesn't give you expertise in said phone.

First of all, to rebut iOS's lack of voice search with the answer of 'go to the app store and download said app' is defeating the purpose. We are talking native applications thus far. What native application is crucial on iOS? I don't see a native navigation app, nor do i see a comprehensive voice search, voice to text feature on it.

You're simply wrong. I dont know where all you Apple enthusiasts like to undermine Android and the build quality of various manufacturers like Motorola and HTC.

The fact is, accident rates on the iP4 are higher than the 3GS. I'm still laughing over the fact that the iP4 is made of ALL glass. And NO, its not gorilla glass by Corning. There is absolutely NO VALID source that backs the claim that the glass used is specifically from Corning.

Want some more evidence ? Sure. Btw, if you're going to spout off statistics, please back them up with valid source.

this is bogus data, the iPhone 4 hasn't been out for 12 months yet.

oh and, you should stop laughing, you just need to take better care of your belongings in order for them to stay in the condition YOU want them to stay in.

I for one think making the front and back of the iPhone makes it more appealing and sharper looking than the previous generation.

Good job Apple!

They curved it using the 4 months of solid data they had on the iPhone4. You should probably read the article before jumping into conclusions. No, this report is not a fake. Its a valid source from SquareTrade, a company whose business is to sell warranties. Again, if you're calling it out as a fake, then why did Macrumors itself post the findings on its webpage?

Given that Android phones really started gaining traction in 2010, we have 8 months of solid data for Motorola and HTC, and 4 months of data for the iPhone 4, which launched in June of this year. Using this data, we predicted the 12 month failure rates using the failure curve for other phone models. We used the actual 12 month data for BlackBerry, the iPhone 3GS, and other smart phones.

you just need to take better care of your belongings in order for them to stay in the condition YOU want them to stay in.

This argument is null. Accidents will happen no matter what. You as an individual do not represent all iPhone owners. Accidents happen. Period.

Good job Apple!

The definition if an accident is that you don't expect it to happen. If I throw my phone against the wall, yeah, that's me not taking care of it. If however I fumble when o take my phone out of my pocket that has nothing to do with me not taking care of it.

The iPhone is not the best phone in the world. There, I said it. One of the best, sure, but it is not 'definitely' the best.

That's one of the things I hate about Android. One day you buy the best, greatest and latest Android on the market, and then a week later, your phone becomes inferior to some other Android.

As someone said before, Android's 'openess' is going to be the downfull of Android. Carriers/Manufacturers are already installing all of their own bloatware and stuff like that.

It's terrible, a new and better phone every week.
