Not a bad idea in my opinion
The Jets still have a lot to play for, and they need a short memory on this one
One game doesn't define a team, for good or bad

Jets bury ball, put Patriots game to bed

I don't know why they should stress since they lost against a great team who may possibly be the best in the AFC, and the Jets have still won 3/4s of their games 12 games into the season. They are most likely playoff bound, either as a division winner or a wild card.

Most Super Bowl winning teams have had a terrible slip up during the regular season. The Pats had that awful loss against the Browns but they moved on.

I would be a tad bit worried if the Jets lost against the 6-6 Dolphins. :)

Anyway, postseason is a whole new season, and the Super Bowl is just a single game with no respect for what the teams have done before they got there. Anyway, ask the Patriots after they lost against the long-shot NY Giants.

Rex Ryan is such an ass, be a head coach not a drama queen.

Well, this life long Jet fan loves him. He's a damn good coach for a second year man. I think he'll grow into a great HC.

A few others disagree with you.

Jets coach Rex Ryan has said that one of the reasons he wanted his team profiled on HBO’s Hard Knocks is that he thought an inside view of his training camp would make his team attractive to potential free agents.

One recent poll indicates that it worked.

Sports Illustrated this week released the results of a poll asking NFL players, “For which other coach would you most like to play?” Ryan was the clear winner, with 21 percent of the vote.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin came in second, with 12 percent. Saints coach Sean Payton was next at 9 percent, followed by Titans coach Jeff Fisher at 8 percent and Patriots coach Bill Belichick at 7 percent.

A couple of other interesting results: Wade Phillips, who was fired as Cowboys coach this month, finished 10th with 3 percent of the vote. And Tony Dungy was among the vote-getters, even though he hasn’t coached since 2008.

OK, then, send him over to the Raiders and see what happens in Oakland, or alternately if Singletary doesn't work out in SF by seasons end, then send him to the 49ers and demote Samurai Mike to DC. We are hurting out west while people on the eastern seaboard are finding ways to complain about the Patriots and/or the Jets. :)

Looks like the Pats v. Bears game is the marquee matchup this week
Although the 'Boys v. Eagles could be interesting

I think it is pathetic that Favre is even contemplating playing this week
and even more pathetic that the "new" coach would allow it
I can't see Belichik, Shannahan, Parcells, Dungy, Cowher, et. al. putting up with that crap

Just one more example to show who calls the shots and runs the team
His ego for the "streak" over the good of the team is disgusting

I have lost all respect for him
And he has set Minnesota back several years

Favre is hurt and he won't be able to produce for the team. It's pretty much understood that this year is a wash for the Vikings so they have nothing to lose. They have the great odds of 1 in 200 for Super Bowl.

Favre is hall of fame and he just wants to stay in the game for longevity's sake at this point. He's forgetting he's in pro football and it appears he's resting on his laurels when he was the best QB in the sport. All he's probably ever heard is about how talented is he as an athlete.

Couldn't agree more with this. I lost all respect for him a while ago thou. He is all about BF now and not the good of the team.

The Boys game is one I can't wait to watch. Here is hoping the boys pull out another victory!!!

The season may be a wash but the Vikings still need to know if they have a QB for next season. Letting Favre continue means they can't see what they have for the future.

I hope they have practiced with the backups and have an idea what they can do. It doesn't seem likely anybody will want an old, battered Favre for next year. It will be interesting to see what the Vikings can do without him. It's possible they may be a better team with a younger QB. I also hope Favre passed his experience and pointers onto the younger guys. In the end, the Vikings are a franchise and they should all work together.

I think on some level, there's always that hope that the Vikings can turn things around and the rest of the division will fall apart. Even at 9-7, it wouldn't look that good for Minnesota especially since they are in the more powerful conference with much promising young and rising talent in the QB positon, or QBs that are at their absolute prime in or near their late-20s (Bears, Saints, Falcons, Eagles, Bucs, Green Bay, Giants, etc).

It would be crazy for Favre to think he can compete in the NFC with the people that are there now. Even the AFC, which I consider aging and not as good for the future overall, would be far too much for a 42 year old Favre to handle next year. He is way in over his head.

I could see Favre as an important offensive coordinator or QBs coach. I don't hate the guy or disrespect him, but among his achievements, I don't consider his streak anything more than luck. Any hall of fame or near hall of fame QB could have gone that many in a row. Is Brady any less of a QB because he got taken out for the whole season in the first game? Is Montana any worse because he had to get back surgery? Is Namath any less talented just because he was unfortunately on the losing side of a big tackle, or Theisman for that matter?

Favre has to big an ego to be an effective coach. I really think that he wants to stay clear of the sport once he's done and live on his farm. Just think of all the coaching staffs he ruined during his playing days. He tried to break up Green Bay, got Mangini fired from the Jets and got Childress fired in Minnesota.

Don't you think the press and Favre detractors are giving too much credit to Favre, and is he that powerful? This sport, especially this sport, does not respect age and wisdom, and if Favre's numbers fall, he's out.

When the 49ers dumped Montana, many here in SF wanted the coach's head or the owners' heads. It didn't happen. They saw Montana in his mid-30s starting to decline so they made the unpopular choice of not keeping him on. The same thing happened with the great Jerry Rice. At any point, if Favre ran his mouth over the owners and/or coaches, he would be gone.

There are much lesser QBs out there who have won more Super Bowls than him, and Big Ben and Plunkett come to mind. Even Staubach was probably not as good overall as Favre but Staubach won the SB twice.

Favre thinks of himself as an NFL Diva. His best days have long since ended but he still gets people to kiss his hand. Look at what he did to the Vikings. He took what was a playoff contender and turned them into a joke. Sure you can fire a coach and pass the blame on but look at the places Favre has been and how the teams have played when he was there vs when he left. He stunk up the Jets, tried to pull apart the Packers and now has single handedly caused the Vikings to implode. All for his stupid streak.

With his records, endorsement bankability, and his age, he reminds me of a post-Bulls Jordan. But at least MJ got the message and had the grace to leave professional sports.

The Giants/Vikings game has been postponed to Monday night due to the blizzard.

If my memory serves correct ... even in GB, there were a few games where he just started for a few snaps then come out of the game to keep his streak alive.

To me the streak has always been a little suspect

Even Monday night is now in question after the roof collapsed

Metrodome roof collapses under snow

Excerpt from the article...

The inflatable teflon roof of the Metrodome in Minneapolis has collapsed under the weight of snow after a heavy storm passed through Saturday.

The roof's failure called into question the Minnesota Vikings' Monday night game against the New York Giants, which was already postponed after the Giants' flight was diverted Saturday to Kansas City as air travel was shut down in and out of Minnesota.

God's way of saying that domes are friggin' dumb. :p
Or Favre said a little prayer last night.
Favre said the streak would have ended if the game had been played Sunday.

"I wasn't playing [Sunday], but we'll see how it feels" Favre told ESPN's Werder late Saturday night in a text message.

Was that Favre we saw on the roof of the Metrodome last night?

Hey ... just glad nobody was killed ... certainly had the makings of being much worse.

Game of the day ... Pats and the Bears

cheers

Interesting decision

Wikipedia already updated :p

Five times in the stadium's history, heavy snows or other weather conditions have damaged the roof and caused it to deflate. On November 19, 1981, a rapid accumulation of over a foot of snow caused the roof to collapse, requiring it to be re-inflated. It deflated the following winter on December 30, 1982, again because of a tear caused by heavy snow. This was four days before the Vikings played the Dallas Cowboys in the last regular season game of the 1982 NFL season. That same winter, on April 14, 1983, the Metrodome roof deflated because of a tear caused by heavy snow and the scheduled Twins' game with the California Angels was postponed. It was the only postponement in Metrodome history until 2007. On April 26, 1986, the Metrodome roof suffered a slight tear because of high winds, causing a nine-minute delay in the bottom of the seventh inning vs the Angels. Most recently, the roof collapsed on December 12, 2010 when the Twin Cities received more than 18" of snow in 24 hours, necessitating the relocation of a Minnesota Vikings game against the New York Giants originally scheduled to take place in the Metrodome later that day (which had already been rescheduled for Monday night due to the Giants being stranded in Kansas City).

The Giants were not prepared to play in the cold weather, and TCF bank stadium is only 50,000 seats.

Wow, FOX showed the footage of the roof collapse from inside the stadium
Awesome footage

i saw some pictures over at espn of it, crazy. also imo, it's beyond dumb to have this type of roof when you know how bad the weather can be and how much snow can accumulate on top of it.

now for more important matters:

Go Bears!
