and how did they lose? brett throws an ill-advised pass in overtime for an interception and loses the game. except for the ladies most packer fans were happy to move on from constant disappointment like that....

But be honest. For a quarter century, Wisconsin wandered through a grey expanse of mediocrity, having their parking lot brat fries and Leinenkugels while standing bare-chested in the stands in sub-zero weather to support their pathetic team. Yet, with not a hint of a winning season on the horizon, still you could not have a seat in Lambeau for love nor money but that a season ticket holder would die without heirs.

Then out of the bay (SF, not Green) came Holmgren, and out of Mississippi came Favre, and out of the relentless misery came hope, then winning seasons, and play-offs, and once again a return to glory. For a year that lasted, when the dynasty was ripped from their grasp at the very last moment.

For the next decade, the Pack was off-and-on, never really horrible, sometimes good, but hardly dominating. Again, Wisconsin suffered, but not so stoically, for they had tasted glory and could not forget, and this time the prize kept taunting them like a cruel siren.

The Dairy State could well have been left in peace, to take a sort of pride in their melancholy Packers (after all, the Badgers did do pretty well from time to time), but greed and ambition and vanity dictated otherwise.

Wisconsin has been ruined forever. But at least Lake Woebegone is still safe.

Favre really is not as good as his numbers, the only reason he owns most of the records is because he was there forever. He is not as good a QB as Payton, Brady, Montana or Marino. For all of Favre's years he only has 1 SB win. I really believe the Packers could win more with Rogers than they ever won with Favre.

Payton has 1 Super Bowl win and Marino had 0. I think that Favre is an equal to them. Don't get me wrong, I think Rogers is an excellent quarterback, but I'm not convinced that he will lead Green Bay to more championships than Favre.

I would argue that Marino is a better QB than Favre. Marino just got unlucky in not winning a SB.

Rodgers may never win a Superbowl or hold any records in the NFL ... Today's mediocre win may end up being as far as he gets ... beating Caleb Hanie is a far cry from beating Big Ben and the Steelers.

I heard someone say when they beat Atlanta ... Aaron Rodgers should win many Superbowls ... I almost choked with laughter.

The Packers will have to play their best game of the last 10 years to even compete against what they will face in 2 weeks.

I am taking the Steelers in a Blowout.

It is foolish to assume that the Packers don't have a chance against the Steelers. These are 2 fairly evenly matched teams. The current spread is only 2.5

I think it is more accurate to compare Rodgers to Jake Delhomme when he was with Carolina than Peyton, Brady, Montana or Favre.

Stop fooling yourselves. QBs do not win Championships. Look at Trent Dilfer. Did he "earn" his ring?

Games are won by the D. QBs, running backs and wide receivers, who usually get the awards, are primarily there to sell tickets and spout moronic platitudes.

lol ... comparing a one year wonder like Trent Dilfer in Baltimore to Real Championship Teams with superstar offences like San Fran's Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and Roger Craig and Dallas Cowboy's Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin and Emmitt Smith is just hilarious

I think it really depends on the team..Yes, the Ravens had a heck of a defense, but I think if you look at the last 15 or 20 years, most of the teams won because of offense.

I mean, who could forget the "Greatest Show on Turf"? That was all offense. And the Colts won with an average defense. And while the Pats had a good defense during their run, I'm not sure they would have won with Trent Dilfer at the helm instead of Brady.

Manning is also a one year wonder, AFAICT. Kurt Warner, how many rings does he have? Joe Namath? Sweetness(34)? Was Brees a champion quality QB? Really?

Troy Donohue Aikman was little more than pretty-boy window-dressing for a good team - look what happened when they started knocking him on the head.

I am talking true Championship teams ... the one's that are spoken as Dynasty teams ... such as Pittsburgh with Terry Bradshaw, Lynn Swan and Franco Harris which may be the greatest as they also had the famous Steel Curtain. ... the fact is Great Offence wins Rings.

Everyone else such as the one's you mention are just that ... one year wonder teams.

hahahahahaha

I guess Rex Ryan is gonna have to kiss Bill Belichick's rings for another year, since he still doesn't have his own.

J E T S SUCK SUCK SUCK

Lets go Packers. I wanna see Aaron Rodgers get a ring.

I admit, it looks like the Eskimos' dynasty of the late '70s-early '80s appeared to be due in large part to their star QB.

i simply don't get the Favre hate... yeah i remember that painful interception ... but i also remember the rest of the game and the games before.. without Favre GB would have _never_ made that far in that season

on offense winning championship vs. defense winning championships: i would say defense will get you to the play offs and offense gives you the shot to win the bowl

Couldn't have said it any better. Any day the Jets lose, is a good day :D

Congrats to the Packers and Steelers for advancing

At the present, I think Pittsburgh is ready to play
The Packers were hot, but their play against the Bears was uninspired

Which team comes to play in the SB is anyone's guess
But I tend to think the Steelers have the mental and physical edge in this one
I'm beginning to like Tomlin as a coach more and more

Steelers

I think it is Farve the character people hate more so than Farve the player. Farve is a great player but a little bitch off-field with questionable mental stability.

For me its a little of both.

He's a drama queen and attention whore, the past few years all attention had to be on him. Coaches, players, and owners were expected to fly to his home to beg him to come out of retirement and of course pay him even more $$ if he did. He'd give the old aww shucks, I'll do it for the team comment and come out.

On the field, he was uninspired many times, you could see that he phoned it in during the 2009 playoffs, and in 2010, he looked lost and refused to blame is aging self as the cause of the teams poor play.
