It's own popularity killed it. The excessive media coverage made everyone want to play and the continued media coverage made people sick of it. Then seemingly all at once the coverage stopped.

I played it for about a month. However after playing Ingress for over a year PoGOs gameplay was just way too basic. They are slowly adding more things and that might improve things but my main problem with Niantic is they don't seem to care that much about cheating. It is rampant in Ingress and PoGO and will only get worse in PoGO when they start allowing trading.

I didn't care about the media coverage. I got sick of it last summer when all I ever could find no matter where I ranged between the Mid-Atlantic and the Carolinas was Pidgey, Ratata and some bug Pokemon. It was ages before I found Meowth despite dutifully dragging the dog out for a walk where a Meowth was supposedly sighted in my town. I had only one Eeevee for months and then suddenly the game started spawning an infestation of them and I was finally able to get a decent collection of Eevees so I could evolve them. Then there was another dry spell where I stopped playing for a long time until they updated it for Halloween and I could start catching ghost Pokemon. All I did during that dry spell was accumulate steps so I could hatch some eggs.

There are places that are chock full of Pokemon but they're not easy for me to get to during my day and usual routes. One is just a congested business and shopping district where my husband works. It's not my idea of a place to go out and get some fresh air with the kids.

I was surprised when I went on a road trip and hit some touristy areas that I was still running into a plethora of Pidgeys but not the variety of Pokemon I was expecting.

It would be nice if we all could trade. Friends of mine who travel to more exotic places with more varieties of Pokemon would happily bring me back some Pokemon if they could.

I do still see all kinds of people playing. It's really funny to see some tough looking dude who looks like he just wandered off the set of a Road Warrior movie try to sneak in some Pokemon hunting. I see that quite a bit actually. It's not people who you'd stereotype as game players who play this game.

It's one of those games that, even if you're tired of it and even a bit disgusted with it, if you're out and about with nothing better to do at the moment, you cant help but give it a try and see if there are any interesting Pokemon around.

It's like with my 3DS...I will take it out with me and I will not see another Nintendo handheld anywhere. Yet when I get home I see I've snagged a lot of random passersby who have set up a house in Animal Crossing. Lol!
