Similiar to the Nifty drive.

On big pro's of the PNY is that you have the 128GB option, as far as I know that's not possible with a niftydrive because there are no microSD's that big available yet :(

They Look nice, but not similar at all, the nifty drive is flush. That's the main reason everyone wants it, or at least why I want one :)

so, don't get me wrong, I HAVE a full backup, and a CCC backup and do once a month a backup to the full backup, which includes applications, system, etc. But, for me I don't add a bunch of apps daily/weekly and don't do a bunch of system updates. So, that backup, running once a month to a TC in the house is fine.

But then, I have a little SD card which contains all my daily data, email changes, documents, desktop, everything that CAN and DOES change daily - sometimes hourly. I'd really like to get that off the SD card (and thumbdrive) backup and onto the nifty for regular hourly backup. For that, I only need the 20GB total. So, my 32GB Class 10 SD card works fine - and does my itunes backup too!

I do the same thing with the Nifty drive and an app called Sync. That, combined with Forever Save helps ensure if my SSD dies at least I won't lose critical wok files. The PNY drive looks interesting, especially at 128 GB.

I had contact the guys from Nifty Drive to get a new one since mine got stolen along with my MacBook Pro.

They told me that in August they expected to open up for the public. Since it's already late August I'm putting my money on an early October availability.

Why skip the whole month of Sept?

Well, I'm kind of mad :( with the fact my mini drive no longer fits flat, since my new 13 inch rMBP SD slot has less depth than the 15 inch rMBP it replaced:

Anyone knows of an even smaller SD carrier?

You have no reason to be made. Nifty made no secret of the fact that they had different sizes for different models. I believe they have a rMBP 13 model.

I dont understand how you could be waiting that long?
Got my 2 long ago.

He has a minidrive which I think is similar but not a niftydrive. Their version for the 13 inch rMBP has not been released yet. (theminidrive.com)

Can someone confirm if there has been a Nifty drive released for the 13 inch rMBP?

what's the plastic card for? made me think, is there a modem in this form factor that fits a sim card?

On Order!

my rMBP 13" 128GB hdd is getting really packed and i am in desperate need. Glad i stumbled upon this!

I was going to order PNY's 128, but it sticks out 1/2" from the 13" rMBP

Very excited to get my nifty because expandable hdd are so damn expensive from OWC

Why on the 13"

why would the PNY stick out that much more on the 13" compared to the 15"?

On the 15" rMBP I find it essentially irrelevant. It's not even 1/8" probably closer to 1/16th

Here's a shot, compared to a PENNY

yes, but the above poster was talking about the PNY drive not the nifty drive.

I picked up the 64GB PNY for 39$ at bestbuy, figured it was a super cheap was to

A: put my itunes library and mobile applications library on
B: create a documents and desktop time machine backup but with local storage.

How has it been a mess? Mine has worked flawlessly since day 1.

Have you read the kickstarter comments, lack of updates, etc? Out of 3 batches all three have had high fail rates. The first batch fell apart, the second had read/write issues and the third don't sit flush.
