Hopefully the firmware will also fix the fact that the app update broke the sync function - it will not recognize that the band is connected to the phone. Lots of unhappy first gen fuelband owners.

Yep.

But Nike are really good at update the Connect software, firmware and app - sure they will sort it out pronto.

Mine's still working fine (old firmware+new app). Though it does seem buggy for a lot of people, a quick twitter search for "Fuelband Firmware" and some people are getting bricked devices, button stops working, etc.

Only if you carry your phone all the time, everywhere you go. If it's sitting on your desk while you step away for coffee, or leave it on the counter while puttering around the kitchen...

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. A lot of the time my iPhone sits near me but it's never glued to me. I also don't take it running, and whilst climbing it'll sit in my bag with the belayer.

I bought a Force the other day and the new Fuelband will be delivered tomorrow. Can't wait to test them side by side. If the FB SE isn't an improvement on machinery it goes back & then I'll decide whether to stick w/ old FB or go w/ Force.

I'm very curious as to what you discover in your tests. I've held off on buying any of these as it seemed the FB was ripe for an update and the Flex just didn't cut it for me for various reasons. The Force and the FB SE are two two I'm considering right now, leaning a bit towards the Nike product.

I track runs using Garmin 610 and if I do any indoor cardio I'll use the 610 with footpod & HRM. I'm just looking at a fuelband or the Force to roughly capture other daily activity levels and help gauge day to day on a rough comparative basis. Just need the gadget to be self-consistent; I have no illusions that a wrist-worn device can provide any sort of accurate estimate of calorie burn without an HRM component.

Add me man :) I'm getting one of those as soon as I can (I'm in europe). I consider myself super active as well but some days I just sit on my ass for 14 hours straight so I hope to get some kind of nudge to move more regularly.

I go to the gym and do monster heavy lifting without break for 2 hours 6 days a week then sit in front of a computer typing rest of the day. Nothing or everything.

That sounds about like me in the gym. Unfortunately, it has no way of measuring lifting. You could go walking around the mall and get more than a lifting session. My email is ijkm@me.com on there though.

Agree. I tried then returned the Flex. Didn't like how the dots on the screen told me nothing useful and also missed the altimeter of the One. Of course I lost two Ones which is why I switched to the FB... can't lose that one unless my hand gets sawed off. But all of the older ones are frustrating when it comes to accuracy w/ machines. So here's hoping one or both of these newer models will do something about that.

So I have a fuelband. Does the m7 make it obsolete?

I own a Fuelband and a 5S with Nike+ Move installed.
The phone will never capture what the Fuelband does unless you glue it to your wrist.
It is a nice Fuelband simulator.

If you have a Fuelband, you won't be selling it anytime soon because of the m7.
If you don't have a Fuelband, you get some of the functionality and may not want it.

Playing tennis with your phone in your pocket won't be the same as a FB on your wrist.

Yea my phone is always with me.

Yep. When you compare it to the Fitbit Force or Polar Loop which are both significantly cheaper & have more functionality this product looks silly. So disappointed with the new fuelband. They added nothing new except the newer version of Bluetooth.

But the Fuel Band is linked to the Nike+ system too. It's all a big strange happy dysfunctional family.

I've had a Fuel Band for over a year, and topped 2 million points earlier in the week. I'm comfortable not knowing what a 'Fuel Point' is specifically, and as long as everyone is gauged by the same ruler, it becomes a significant method of comparison. What I hated was the Jawbone Up that came out, and disappeared, and came out again with a higher price (as I remember it). And the Fitbit thing is pretty expensive too, and you have to get the scale, etc, and it's hard to use as friends have told me. Nike stands behind the band too as mine went mental almost a week before the warranty was to end, and they replaced it 'no charge'. I expected them to come up with some kind of BS story and stick it to me, but they didn't. The replacement one has some improvements that make it a lot better than the original.

Sure, there might be better ones out there, and there are, Ford knows, a 'poop load' of them now, but I'm happy with my Fuel Band... I wish it was waterproof, and I wish it was perhaps more flexible, but it's been good to me, and Nike has been to. I'd recommend it.

The big question I have is what the real difference is with the SE and the original, and why would I care or want to pop for the new one. (Nike *could* offer existing users a low price upgrade!?!? *HINT* *HINT*)

isn't SE supposed to background sync? seems to keep a constant BT to my 5s but only syncing when the app is a foreground task

so what is the verdict? is it worth it? Should i opt for the Fitbit force or wait for the iWatch?

This is house the iWatch should be made, also with rechargeable wine up and solar panels and with a body made out of stainless or Aluminium.

Can anyone confirm if there is sleep tracking on the FuelBand SE? Nike's and Apple's websites do not mention it but many articles about the SE from its unveiling said it will have sleep tracking, however recent articles don't make mention of it either.

Respectfully, you're asking non-answerable questions.

"worth it" is a very subjective thing, the answer will vary from person to person.

I recommend you do either of two things: (1) buy both the FB SE and the Force, try them both out in parallel, then keep the one you prefer, or (2) sit back and figure out just exactly what you're hoping to accomplish with one of these devices, then read reviews/comparisons (should be coming) to see which one better fits your goals.

Waiting for "the iWatch" is just plain silly; you don't know when (if) it will come out, you don't know what it will or won't do, you don't know what other options will exist then.

having sleep monitoring and a silent alarm is a HUGE selling point to me and many others.

Fuel Band SE Upgrade

Had the Original Fuelband for about 6 months now. Have accumulated 700,000 points so far, averaging 4000 points a day.

I've had the FuelBand SE for about 6 days now. (I got it at the Apple Store- they received the shipment on Nov 1 and it was in their system, but not on the floor because Nike wanted to release it on the 6th) But I asked the sales guy to pull it up on his iPhone cash register thing- and it showed up. He called for the size and color I wanted, and it was brought out, but he couldn't check me out. So I suggested he scan the original fuel band that was on the shelf and he had no problem letting pay. (What he didn't know was that although the boxes both said $149.99 - the old fuel band was on sale for $129.99! Score!)

Sorry that was more a post for slickdeals.net!

But having used the FuelBand SE for a week, here are my thoughts:

It's pretty much the same device physically. The only thing I don't like was that the black rubber finish- I used to have the Black Ice and loved that it never showed signs of aging. The black finish seems that it would be prone to marring or scuffing. The color finish (I got yellow "Volt") is a nice subtle touch to give a little more bling to the band. It came with an new USB cable that has a very "unsexy" box like dongle on the end, opposed to the sleek and sexy one that matched the curve of the band that came with my original Fuelband.

The functions are very similar, you scroll through the screens by pressing the button. However, the button is now lightning fast and when you double click, you get the time displayed instantly. This alone was worth the upgrade for me. I hated pressing multiple times to get the time displayed.

There is a reminder animation that displays every so often if you're sitting on your ass too long that says "GO JOE". But just to be funny, I changed mine to say "GO ****YOURSELF". LOL. The new animations are also quite nice, with the new LED's being quicker.

The new "Win the Hour" Feature I'm not crazy about, but maybe it will grow on me. However the "Sessions" feature is pretty valuable. You can set different activities and intensities for said workouts to earn you the appropriate amount of Fuel. To start or stop a session, you just hold the button for 3 seconds.

The Bluetooth 4.0 is cool. It's pretty much always on, so when you turn on your Nike App, the results are instantly displayed. No holding the button to sync. It's supposed to use less power than the old version = less charging, which is also a plus.

All in all I think it's a pretty decent upgrade. I would have liked features that integrated phone functions on the screen, like incoming call and message display. And a vibration feature to be used as an alarm would have been good. But it's not a FitBit, and the FitBit is so uncool looking to me, so I'd never wear it.

The Nike FuelBand SE is a worthwhile upgrade if you can afford it. Since we are talking about $149, it's not something that many people will think twice about, especially since you can sell your old one on eBay for $90. If you've never had a FuelBand, you'd probably enjoy the SE over other similar products that are out there. It's easy to use, looks the coolest of the bunch, and has great support from Nike should you need it.

Yes, there's sleep tracking.

You activate a "Session" that you designate on the app as being Sleep.

But honestly, I hate wearing my FuelBand to sleep, so I haven't bothered trying the sleep tracking.

My FuelBand SE refuses to emit any kind of Bluetooth signal. Toyed around with it for 2+ hours last night—toggling Bluetooth on FuelBand and iPhone, firmware update, multiple factory resets—just refuses to display any kind of Bluetooth signal. I haven't seen anyone report similar issues. Going to return and order a replacement. Disappointed. Wish the Fitbit had a larger, more glamorous (color) display.

Wish the FuelBand was thinner at the bottom. Then again, Nike's trying to not invest too much into this so as to not compete with the Apple iWatch come late-2014. :)

dont really know what your looking for in the way of sleep monitoring, but there is nothing specific in the fuelband or fuelband se that pertains to sleep.

you put the the thing on your wrist, if you move enough to register a fuelpoint the total goes up....There are no vibration alarms.

its a fitness tracker not a sit on your ass tracker, I want to know that I am pushing to get 8K fuelpoints / day...sleep comes naturally when your wore out.

any way you can tell us (or screen shot) what it tracks? some do sleep quality, times woken, total sleep time, etc..

The most important thing for you to know is that there is no vibration motor hence forth there is no silent alarm on the fuelband SE. The sleep tracking on the fuelband se is a useless gimmick. The "Up" or the Fitbit line does a way better job plus has a silent alarm.

so you feel that because it tracks movement/activity, it can't also track sleep? i feel for you.

you also realize that without sleep, you wouldn't be tracking ****, right?

thanks for the clarification. many articles (reputable sites for the most part) are suggesting there is a vibration motor...

been using fuelband since day1, this is my third (original, ice, SE) and have just over 3.8M fuelpoints..so very familiar with the device. Used to syncing each night, seeing the data wheel spin and that day get marked off the streak (621 day streak). With this new app, and bt4 on SE I'm confused on when its doing the background syncs. I know i can open the app and it will sync but background sync was one of the reasons I upgraded.

This morning it auto synced 1.5k at 6.30a about half way through my workout but hasnt synced since..right now the band is at 3.2k.

Any idea what triggers a background sync? Time intervals, specific times of day, certain amount of fuelpoints?

what is there to measure while your sleeping? Fuelband take all the data from the sensors. combine them, run it through an algorithm and spit out a number. It would take an awful lot of movement while sleeping to generate a fuel point i would think. I wear my bands 24/7 and don't think i've ever seen a point registered that wasn't from getting out of bed during the night.

I basically generate around 2800 / fuelpoints per hour running 8-9min/miles, just dont see how you could do enough movement sleeping to trigger one. Maybe if it just told you the sensors triggered instead running the algorithm.
