Apple's "iPhone 12" lineup is facing mass production delays of between four weeks and two months because of postponements caused by factory lockdowns and workplace absences during the global health crisis, according to a new report from Nikkei Asian Review.

According to the report, Apple has aggressively tried to cut delays and is now less likely to postpone launch of the iPhone 12 until next year, which was the situation it faced towards the end of March.

That is in agreement with a report from The Wall Street Journal in late April that said Apple still plans to launch its iPhone 12 lineup in 2020, but mass production on the devices will be delayed for around a month.

On the other hand, Apple supplier Broadcom believes the 2020 iPhone models will be delayed for several weeks, and will launch later than usual in the fall.

Apple has reportedly asked suppliers to build more than 45 million iPhone XR, iPhone 11, and iPhone SE units for the second half of 2020, as a way of shielding the company in case of delays to its new 5G iPhones.

Information from Bloomberg continues to suggest that some of the new iPhones could be released "multiple weeks later than normal," though still within the typical fall window.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the mmWave 5G iPhones could potentially see a delay due to changes to the antenna package made in early April and delays in qualification process services.

Apple is expected to launch four iPhone 12 models this year: One new 5.4-inch device, two 6.1-inch models, and one 6.7-inch handset. Kuo still expects the 6.1 and 5.4-inch iPhones to go into mass production in September, while mass production on the larger 6.7-inch iPhone will be delayed until October because of its more complicated design.

It’s not delayed unless they set a date and will miss that date, good try. Wow some companies will do anything for a click

With COVID, and the plethora of products that ‘need’ to be updated, it’s not surprising that delivery times may be pushed back.

Well I will finish paying off my MBP 16" at the end of October so for me it should work out about right (if true). Unless I get a PS5 instead and try and force my X to carry on for a couple of months longer haha!

Covid-19 not withstanding, we hear the 'delays' rumors EVERY year and every year Apple pulls it off. Will that be any different this year? Who knows? But seriously, what difference will a month make?

I have a strong feeling that whatever the release date is this year 2020, it will be the same release Date for the iPhone 2021 next year.

I’m sure Apple wants to give the iphone one year before introducing a new phone.

An iPhone SE is a great holdover device while the dust settles over 5G. I predict that iPhone 13 will be even more advanced than iPhone 12.

This is the least surprising news ever, and I suspect we will keep hearing more of the same. I was kind of looking forward to upgrading my X, but it's going strong - very strong, in fact. If the 12 proves difficult to get in 2020, I will probably just wait until the 13. I used to upgrade yearly, then biennially, now every three years... will it become every four years? The older I get and the more I can afford whatever I want, the less bothered I get over acquiring new shiny things.

Wow, this gave me a bit disappointed. Just wanted to see the new design and wanted to change a new phone for my self. The things are delayed and just thinking to change a new phone for next year iPhone 2021

They should delay it anyway.. with as many factories that have closed this year due to the virus there is no telling what quality issues will arise from rushed production times. And being this is a legacy flagship item and not something like airpods or a watch.. I honestly would just shoot for new phones coming in March of 2021 and not End of 2020. Need some room to breathe and make sure things are working correctly.. but that is obviously my opinion... and not a popular one.

I gave up upgrading yearly when I really looked hard at what I get. Every year it is a minor upgrade at this point, very little BIG changes. So going every two years or more will give you a lot more bang for your buck. Unless you like purchasing and then reselling to recoup funds yearly.. which I hated doing because there are just so many scammers out there these days. And it isn't like Apple gives you a great deal on trade in value either.. I just roll the dice every two years or get a refurb when Apple releases them for a little cheaper.

For those complaining, calm down. It’s just another iteration of -a phone- that’s already in your pocket. Stay strong, you’ll make it through this crushing setback. Somehow.
Except for people that have a cracked screen or old phone, and have been waiting for a new phone to get ASAP. It's frustrating to know that we'll have to wait longer than usual. Have some understanding 😂

You've given me a lot to think about. I was going to go day one purchase, but I'll have to think about if I'm still onboard with that 🤔

ailable and in the store and I h
But 2 days ago there was an article posted here saying that Ming stated its back on track for a September launch as scheduled.
Right! I read that article about Ming stating it will be released on september? Why are these news are not matching up???

If it gets delayed enough, the installment customers will come out crying about a wasted 13th payment again.

Yes because any different messes with the installments for people upgrading. Either you need to make wasted payments for too long, or need to pay up extra if it is too short.

Considering 5G does not exist in 99% or locations, I agree. Gimmick.
Issue is someone has to go first or you will have a constant dialogue:

Phone manufacturers: There's no coverage, so why hurry production?
Carrier: There's no devices, so why ramp up coverage?

Same with EVs. People don't buy because charging is inconvenient, but they don't ramp up charging because no one has EVs in the areas...

If it take a few extra weeks or month or two to make sure this year’s iPhone release go smoothly and the QA is good, I’m willing to wait. It will also give me a few more paychecks to save for accessories or extra payments for my device, since I’m also switching from T-Mobile to Verizon. I have an XS Max that is 18 months old and running smoothly. Battery life isn’t as good as when I bought it, but I have an Anker power bank so I’m good with that.
