Hope they fixed the spamming of lightning bolt, blue shells and bullet bill.
It broke the balance of the game badly in the closed beta.
And the freemium model really sucks. Especially considering this is a kids-friendly game.

I'm one of those rare people who'd rather just pay $10 upfront to unlock everything forever. Super Mario Run was one of my favorite iOS games ever because I could focus on enjoying the gameplay rather than managing various currencies and timers.

This!!
It's the exact reason games like Mario Kart were fun to play, addictive, stress-free. This monetisation I understand but really takes away from the gameplay.
This may turn out to be the killer feature of Apple Arcade - pay a monthly fee, and get games that were designed from the ground up to not need a "free-to-play"/"pay-to-win"/paywall structure.

I for one actually love the Mario Run game - paid to get the full game after trying it and love that business model... HATE the fremium junk with ad's or pay to get diamonds and all sorts of bullcrap like that.

Let me buy a few full games for a small entry fee like in the old days
I was on board with that. My son and I downloaded it the day it came out. I saw it supported family sharing and bought it. A few minutes later we realized we couldn’t play at the same time.

The last time I bought games was when the AppleTV first came out just so I could try them out. A few days ago I went on my iPad to look at games and I must have spent 30+ minutes looking for a game that I could just buy that was worth it. Needless to say no game was purchased. Freemium has ruined the App Store.
I wonder if this was one of the driving forces behind Apple Arcade? Because it's my understanding that $4.99/mo subscription gets you over a hundred games at launch with no play-to-win BS or other freemium nonsense.

I don’t like the idea of Mario Kart having in-app purchases. :(

i can't stand all the games that have in app purchases, some are pay to play (advance in levels). Yes Ill pay sometimes, but its annoying.
The ads on some games are just outrageous, you spend more time watching them than playing.

They didn't quite meet that Summer 2019 target...
I would rather have a product arrive later than expected but be perfectly polished instead of the alternative which is rush to meet a deadline and ship a crappy experience...

They only missed the official (astronomical) last day of summer by three days. You'll live

This CAN be a huge hit. But if it’s loaded with paywalls and uses the “oops, you’re out of gas after 5 mins of gameplay, you can wait 462 days or pay $.99!” Then it will harm their rollout of mobile games. I really wish they’d go the Super Mario Run route - top shelf game for $9.99. I know it probably won’t make as much money as the freemium junk, but with rumors that it’s already P2W like crazy in the beta, I just really hope they reconsider.
Ughh that's exactly how Dr. Mario is now. It's a fun game and all but I hate that freemium **** they pull

Yeah I cannot ignore this classic! Now I wish Donkey Kong would get the same love from Nintendo ... after all he’s the real big boss and has been around as long as Mario and was initially more prominent in advertising ... after all Mario started in Kong’s game not the other way around.
The donkey kong country franchise is my wish for the next game!

Nintendo needs to get away from in-app purchases. I realize that's a way to make more money, but when I buy a Nintendo game, I wanna play the entire game just like I do with the console.

I was so happy they went the 'premium' route with Super Mario Run. Nickel-and-diming goes against Nintendo's traditional software values but it seems they got a little too curious and greedy with their other releases. Someone needs to be a bastion for a sustainable and ethical monetisation model on mobile and Nintendo were perfectly poised to be it.

That would be nice. I just want a casual game that doesn’t require buying crap or long wait periods as punishment for not buying said crap.

Gameplay footage shows Mario Kart is to be played in portrait mode...will there ever be a landscape mode? Mario Run had the same orientation which ruined the whole experience and I uninstalled it after playing only for a few minutes.

Excited about the game until I heard about the dumb control scheme. It's closer to Temple run than a kart game. If angrybirds go can do it, why can't Nintendo?
