ill be phoning my local O2 stores tomorrow to check if they will have 16GB, this launch is turning into a farce.

i wonder if it's worth trying to contact someone at Apple? After all, they should know, surely?!

I've never signed up with o2 before, they always did seem a bit useless. It's annoying that they got the exclusive rights to the iphone. If every network had it, we'd know everything we need to by now.

The Apple Store, Bullring, Birmingham says both will be on sale from launch. Like you, i am inclined to believe them out of all of the places selling the iPhone. But like others have said, i think more concrete details will be announced next week.

I was under the impression that the iPhone 3G would only be available from O2 & CPW stores?

Either way, I'm inclined to suggest that both models will be available on the 11th. The question then would be, how much stock of each will the stores be getting, and how much stock of each colour of the 16GB model?

From speaking to these guys I believe there will be 16gb available on the day but still not sure about the white versions. I reckon current iPhone customers will be contacted on Monday about how to upgrade online. U upgrade online and then collect your iPhone on the launch day.

Cheers for posting back. I am more confident now that the 16GBs will be available, and all the confusion is due to the lack of official information being given to stores. Like others i think there will be some more concrete information released early next week that will settle our questions once and for all.

UK - Unlock Capital?

"Apple has apparently elected to limit supplies of the iPhone 3G in the UK [due to the high number of Uk iPhones being unlocked], with the report claiming 16GB models will be particularly hard to find, and warning the white model may never ship in the UK."

I went into the O2 Store on Buchanan Street, Glasgow today and the guy told me they *expected* to receive all of the models on contract and PAYG, but he also said that all they knew was what was on O2 and Apple's website.

As I said in the other thread I have a horrible feeling that existing customers will have to wait until next tuesday to get the upgrades as we won't be able to upgrade online before then.

I realise that I was told that the phones would be delivered for the 11th for upgrades but today I was told by a local o2 shop and customer services that upgrades could only be done in store or online/phone from the 11th for delivery the following week (unless done in store but so far upgraders have been told they can't upgrade in store so who knows who to believe!).

At least here in finland we have all the models. We have been able to reserve our phones, I was calling to reserve the black 16GB model but they were already out of them around here, so I got the white one. But the fact is that all the models are present at the launch, black 16GB just was way more popular than the white one. Oh, and there was a lot of 8GB models left.

Just to add my news on this. I spoke to my local Carphone Warehouse just now who told me the 16GB would be delayed by six weeks. They had only just been told, and are as flummoxed as the rest of us. It looks like it'll be 8GB or nothing on July 11.

Perhaps it'll be worth buying the 8GB until the 16GB then flogging it on eBay, though that would probably contravene some stupid T&C ruling as you'd have to sign-up to another contract!

8GB is so teeny as to make it almost not worth it...

Really not sure I believe they'd do that at this late stage. Even if they ran out of stock it'd only be a day or two before more arrived.

If it did happen it would go down in history as the most botched launch, ever.

"Yep, just rung up CPW direct sales for my sins, they confirmed that we can pre-order from Monday; do all credit checks etc and guarantee one with my name on either in store at 7.02am on the 11th or at home between 9-5pm... no mention of Q VIP passes though so not sure this is worth it. So I guess this confirms no instore actiavtion is mandatory.

He said is both 8 & 16gbs but not white."

What a total crapshoot this 'launch' is turning out to be.

It does seem to be falling apart a bit, doesn't it? I don't know who to believe. Apple have had this phone in production for months, and some say they have millions available - enough to meet and cope with huge demand. It would really surprise me if the 16GB isn't available, despite what Carphone Warehouse say.
