I'm not mad. I can happily afford the 64gb now.
I was thrown off a bit on how it goes from 16 to 64. Wouldn't it have made more sense to drop the 16 or something instead of the 32?
I don't understand the logic.

What you mean shell out more? The money you were going to pay originally for 32gb is getting you 64gb instead.
I think what he meant was he wanted the 32gb to replace the 16gb version.

But if Apple did this, people wouldn't want to spend more for higher storage as 32gb is pretty plenty.

Agree with your comment, i was thinking the same thing when i read in the leaks that the 32 gb will not be available. Apple never losses money ...

Just consider it is a 32gb model, step up from 16gb.

(and the will throw in another 32 gb, no extra charge)

come on folks... it is what it is.

im not sure if I'm happy the 64gb took the 32gb's place, because i would rather have had a 32gb base.
I'm happy the 64 and 128 GB options replaced the 32 and 64 GB options. That is only good news. A good number of people do not come close to using 16GB of storage. When iOS and apps take up so much space so that 16GB is not sufficient for those users, Apple will make 32GB the base.

32GB didn't replace the 16GB because of iCloud. Apple may feel like people wouldn't buy higher iCloud packages if 32GB is base. Now, Apple is going to trap people into buying the 64GB for $299 instead of opting for the 16GB for $199. More money for Apple, lol. Very smart now that I think about it.

The 32GB was 299 anyway. You're getting 32GB for free. I don't understand where you're getting this from.

If Apple made the entry level iPhone 32GB, that model would sell at an insanely high rate.

By doing it the way they did it, they give people who are willing to spend the extra Benjamins a deal on 64 and 128GBs while keeping everybody from settling for the entry model because 32GBs would be enough for majority of people.

Wasn't the 16GB more popular than the 32GB? That may not be the case with the iPhone 6. The 64GB may be more popular, which means more people are going to pay 299 > 199; as oppose to 199 > 299

Im saying that I'm not sure that I need 64gb of storage, and I could have gotten what I wanted at a reduced price. Oh well.

Yep. Before the announcement (and after) I was thinking Apple could still put a $249 32GB option between the 16GB and 64GB, like what they did with the iPod touch. But I guess Apple just wants you to pay more to get more. They won't give you a 32GB option in between, whether it's because Apple wants more revenue or more simplicity.

Clearly more revenue and thus profit. Which is no surprise, they are a business after all.

From a business stand point they have me hook line and sinker.

If the base model was 32 I would just get that, no brainer. And if they kept everything the same (16, 32, and 64) I wouldn't be able to justify spending 100 dollars for a mere 16 gb more so I would have gone with the 16 gb model. NOW though they 64 gb (48 gb more) is a clear contrast and I'll certainly be going that route, giving Apple 100 dollars more then I normally would have.

Or maybe it was a production limitation and they had to make a choice. They really wanted to provide 128GB options but it was either only offer 16,32,or 64 or 16,64, or 128... Knowing Apple they WILL provide a 32GB option just not until the demand settles down.

Sometimes the simplest explanation is the correct one verses some grand conspiracy to make you pay more.
