It wouldn't matter. There's nothing on there I'd want to see. This isn't just Apple. It's been a while since I watched any new tv show or series. It's all garbage or waiting for anything that was once good to conclude like Stranger Things.

I have a relative who works for Netflix and I've tried to humor him a few times over the holidays in the past when they are raving about XYZ show...

I'm sorry, it's almost all just total hot garbage with crap writing, crap acting and overly oozy visuals to make people think (I guess?) ... "this is amazing!".

He is not old enough to get this reference, but it's "direct to video" junk filler. The lot of it.

I won’t pay for streaming with ads. Back when I had Peacock, they’d play adds before and after a movie, but not during a feature film — and that was fine. But I wouldn’t watch their TV because of the interruptions with ads, and eventually got rid of it altogether. I pay for no ads on the D+/Hulu bundle, and that’s it. If Apple goes the way of the others, I’m out.

Agreed. I tolerate ADs on Pluto because it's free, and the AD breaks are actually pretty short usually.

This is good for those of us with T-Mobile plans that include free TV and Netflix (with ads), as I'm pretty sure they [would] switch to the ad tier plan.

That said, and as I have noted before, the ads on Netflix are really not that bad, are often very short, and since the frequency and length depends on the show, ads are often missing entirely from some of the shows I've watched.

Of course they'd say 'at this time' because that leaves the door open to change their minds in the future. They may already be considering or they may not, but you wouldn't expect a big corporation to make a definitive promise as things can always change.

"At this time" <----

Apple must grow it's revenue every quarter despite already being one of the largest companies in history. With market saturation they'll slowly shift to charging for things that were once included and they'll monetize your data on their platforms if they haven't already. They won't have a choice about this either.

I don't know anyone that uses google maps any more unless they are on the web (android users aside). There is just no real reason to.

Anyone have a bad apple maps experience? it was rough the first two years but that was ages ago.

I’m in a newer subdivision that is now fully built out and has been for a few months. The majority of the houses on my street all navigate to MY house in Apple Maps. In fact, they still show only 3 houses in the outline for the entire block. Mine is one of those and was the first to be finished. My own address is likely correct only because I was proactive in sending in updates to Apple, including the streets themselves. Meanwhile, Google had a Streetview car out there days after I first submitted an update request and Waze has long been updated as well.

Say what we want about the companies involved and certainly how awful Google is in so many ways ... They do care about their data quality on Google Maps, which is what I care about.

Hopefully never!

I am old enough to remember when Cable TV didn't really have ads, nor did other types of paid subscriptions that slowly incorporate ads into various paid tiers. Personally I consider a promotion for another film / video at the start or end of something I am watching to be an Ad. it 100% is advertising I didn't ask for.

Apple TV has "no plans" to launch an ad-supported streaming tier for the platform, according to Apple's head of services Eddy Cue, speaking in interview with Screen International.

Apple-TV-Color.jpg

Asked if there were plans for a tier with ads, Cue said: "Nothing at this time. Again, I don't want to say no forever, but there are no plans."

Cue added that if Apple TV can stay aggressive with its pricing, then it's better for consumers not to have their viewing experience interrupted by ads.

Apple TV cost just $4.99 per month in the U.S. when it launched in 2019, but the price has since increased three times. The price went up to $6.99 per month in 2022, and then to $9.99 per month in 2023, and now the service costs $12.99 per month.

Many other streaming services like Disney+ and Netflix have raised prices in recent years, but both rivals have also launched ad-supported plans as lower-priced tiers that have proven popular with customers.

Apple rolled out a rebrand of Apple TV+ earlier this month, dropping the "+" from the name to read just "Apple TV."

Rubbish. They dropped the “+” from the name specifically because they plan to add an advertising tier.

I find Apple TV to have the best quality all around originals vs other services. The service has been improving greatly and most of my favorite shows are now on the service.

Between YouTube and Apple TV, I don’t really find myself watching anything else.

If you think about it, there already are ads because most characters conveniently own a Mac or an iPad - and everything goes to plan!
It may just be me being weird as heck, but I love that about Apple TV shows :p. The HomePods in Servant were a little much though since one was blocking their screen! I wouldn’t dare put anything in front of the tv screen.

Love the quality of Apple TV as well!

Despite having Pixels for years, and such, I can't get myself to buy into YouTube. Google dropping their Music service and forcing users into YouTube Music is something I still do not forgive them for. It broke so much that took ages to fix so I just don't trust them for paid media content to this day. :( .

To each our own I guess.
I love the YT Premium + Music combo.

YT Music is absolutely ace for discovery and interesting variations since so much off label/live/bootleg/alternative stuff can be accessed.

Doesn’t matter to me since I only take advantage of the service if I can get a few free months when buying an Apple product.
Oh no, I forgot to activate the trial when I purchased my iPhone 16e four months ago! Oh well, anyway. I just checked out the app and I find it hard to see what movies I can watch. I just see the top 10 movies. Where is the full list? How can I browse this app?

Netflix added ads, I cancelled. Amazon prime added ads, I cancelled. Disney plus? cancelled.

I welcome the opportunity to vote with my wallet and cancel Apple Tv when they introduce ads.

Plex-Pass lifetime was the best purchase ever.
