It means I haven't seen any other cellphone using a dual-core CPU.

did you mean that actually have been released already? because there's tons of them coming out in the next few months

Yes, I meant already out - when I referred to "on paper" that means some may have been designed to have it or are planning on it but are not yet available.

The LG Optimus 2X is for sale in Korea. Multiple other dual core phones will be available here before the end of march.

IPS won't be on the iPhone for long

The switch to OLED (whether its AMOLED+ or whatever) is coming.... and you'll probably be one of the first people to proclaim how awesome OLED is when apple gets it.
I agree with you.

When all the Apple Zealots brag about how great their new OLED displays are, it will be another blatant display of fanboy hypocrisy.

I get such a laugh at how quick they eat their previous words. It's the flip flop routine.

Apple uncertainty turned inside out. Poor souls don't know which end is up.

I dont miss my samsung epic 4g at all. Most of the galaxy s phones in the us havent even got the update for 2.2 anyway. I did like the screen though.

Here we go again.

It's never been about the specs, it's the software silly.

Thank you. Once again I am reminded that there are people who live in reality.:apple:

I'm sure if Apple were to use Samsung displays you would you be more than happy, you would also be praising Apple for doing so. It's the church of Jobs in full effect

Steve is a Zen Buddhist. Your statement is impossible. :apple:

Yes i know it's impossible for Apple to go with a quality screen manufacturer like Samsung. They made a poor choice of hardware like the shatter prone glass found on iP4, why didn't they use Gorilla glass is totally beyond me.

This statement makes no sense. Apple has used Samsung displays in their products in the past to great effect. However, Samsung in this case was likely uninterested (probably due to their focus on OLED for mobile screens at this point) in manufacturing the high-DPI screens Apple wanted. Apple goes to the manufacturer willing to produce the display they want, nothing more or less.

I don't care about any of these specs - bottom line is that 4.3" screens make cell phones way too big, and I will not be buying one. The iPhone's screen is the perfect size for a pocket device. Anything bigger is just annoying.

I remember back in the day when cell phones first came out, they were huge... then they kept getting smaller and smaller, people wanted smaller, had to be smaller... now they've turned around and want bigger and bigger... If you want such a huge device, why don't you just get a tablet?

All of the new Android phones are just way too big, and new ones are released way too often. Those are two of the main reasons I switched from Android to iPhone last week.

I checked my friends galaxy s (it's OLED right?) and it's screen doesn't look as good as my iphone 4.

Not printing pictures from your cellphone isn't the same as not keeping and viewing those images (on computer monitors, TVs, etc). And there it's good to have high-resolution since you never know how high the resolutions of displays will be in the future.

Really? A 5Mpixel image is nearly 1800 x 3000 pixels, bigger than the entire screen of a 30inch LCD. Also, even at 5Mpixels, your imager resolution is outstripping the capabilities of the crappy lens in the phone.

Have you actually owned and used a larger phone? Most male pants will fit a 4.3" comfortably which makes me question your experience.

Does it? There seems to be some controversy even in the Android community:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/android-news/47212-android-where-our-gpu-acceleration.html

Also, which GPUs are supported? And how many phone are running Gingerbread on official updates? Just one, Nexus S. Even if it's enabled in Gingerbread (questionable), if it's only deployed on 0.4% of Android phones, that doesn't help much.

The details don't concern me. I was just addressing the point of GPU accelerated UI on android. Yes, it's supported (listed as GPU accelerated UI animations). I don't know any more detail than that.

The crappy lens is only part of the problem. The real issue is the crappy sensor.

Small sensors produce poor images and they don't get much smaller than the sensors in cell phone cameras.

I have held and used them in the store, which is how I came to the conclusion that they are ridiculously large for a phone. I don't want a tablet-sized device, I want a phone-sized device. If you want a bigger screen, get an iPad. I think it's ridiculous that people think the iPhone screen is "too small".

And regarding the pants... I keep my phone in the "5th pocket" of my jeans. The iPhone fits 100% perfectly, as did my Droid Eris, and my Razr2. Those are perfectly-sized phones. The Droid X, for example, is not. The HTC Evo is also too big. Same with Blackberry phones... I was never even the slightest bit interested in them because of how wide they are.

So if the next iPhone is wider than the iPhone 4, I will not be buying it. And if there are no non-huge Android phones available either, then I guess I'm screwed.

I just don't like this recent trend of huge phones.

OLEDs can be any size needed, so the trend of larger phones isn't irreversible. Though as people use them for more and more things, including surfing the internet and reading books a larger screen is nice.

Just wait until the flexible OLED screens start getting utilized - we may find some interesting form factors coming our way.

The Galaxy S uses a Super AMOLED display and it is noticeably (and measurably) better than the iPhone4 display. The iPhone4 screen has better resolution, and that is the only category it wins in. Color gamut, brightness, vibrancy, contrast ratio etc are all better on the Galaxy S.

Imagine a smartphone, with normal dimensions, but using the flexible OLEDs shown above, has a pullout screen like 12 inches wide and as tall as the smartphone. Could be as good as a tablet but in a quarter of the form factor.

So, the answer is no, you haven't owned one, put one in your pocket or used one as a daily device. You saw and touched a few in store and balked at the size without attempting to see if it's useful. That puts you in a poor position to dismiss the larger handsets as bad designs and criticize their usability.
