Sure the samsung has a better screen. But the S2 is not worth the unsubsidized cost of $1000. Ridiculous. No phone is worth that cost. People are sheeple and can be led like lemmings where they are led to believe a phone is so life changing whether it be apple or any other brand pulling the chain.

You have to wait for it to launch on US carriers. It will likely hit all 4 major carriers just like its predecessor and debut at $200 just like every other high end smartphone.

Almost all smart phones today are $600+ devices if bought without a contract.

The Galaxy S II has an official unsubsidized MSRP of £499 (=~$822USD), incl. VAT.

The price will undoubtedly be lower in the US and other countries where tax isn't as high. Probably $699 or 799.

Not that unreasonable- most high-end phones have an unsubsidized cost of over $600.

The only reason you see $1000 is due to high demand & low supply, and the sellers are capitalizing on that by marking up the price on eBay et al.

It's similar to when the iPhone 4 was released- the official MSRP of the 32GB model is $699, yet I've seen it go for over $1000 on eBay (@launch anyways). Doesn't make it the official mfg suggested price.

guess how much iphone4 costs unsubsidized? guess how much i paid for gsii? 740 including shipping. There are other benefits of having an unsubsidized/unbranded smartphone that's not an iphone on at&t but this isn't the place to discuss that here (benefit being similar to owning the original iphone for service charges ;))

Ive already seen them for $699 but thats still too much for me for ANY phone. I have patience so ill wait till it is a lot cheaper here. I dont need to have one right away when it comes out here.

If Samsung releases it on US carriers (and seeing how popular the original variants of the Galaxy S were in the US they'd be stupid not to) it'll be something like 199 subsidized like any other smartphone out.

Yeah i know but you know how some guys just have no patience and pay full price. Id never do that as these phones arent something im anal about and Im not up for a full upgrade til next May of 2012 but ill try and see what they can do since im going to still sign up with T-Mobile and let my contract rates grandfather in w/ AT&T if the merger goes thru.

Unlike you, I will never buy a branded phone specially by at&t ever again.

Update isssues with branded devices alone was enough for me to stay away

Apple is always full of excuses. But the real reason is they are greedy. They just want your money. That's why iOS is propertary!

LOL i know the feeling... that's why I just bought my own i9100. For a smidgen under 800 bones it isn't too bad, considering how I'm free from the shackles of any carrier. That's priceless (or rather the price of the contract) lol.

There's always xda ;)

There is nothing xda can do about removal of front facing camera and led flash :(
Not to mention you have to wait for a chef to cook up a rom based on european releases.

Surprisingly, i haven't felt the need to root my gsii yet

Afther all the crap Apple has been doing to Samsung I doubt Samsung is going to be making any bussiness with the Apple.

Smasung is to smart to do busness with a low morals company like apple that resorts to lawsuits and crap intead of accepting defeat in the smartphone market.

Have you seen an honest corporation in the forbes 500 chart?

half the iphone is made by samsung. so what you meant to say was. "I would never buy a phone that doesnt have an apple with a bite out of it on the back."
Samsung has its strengths and weaknesses. I love all of my samsung HDDs and would probably never buy another brand. My experience, as well as many others, with their phones, however, has been awful.

I agree with you.

When all the Apple Zealots brag about how great their new OLED displays are, it will be another blatant display of fanboy hypocrisy.

I get such a laugh at how quick they eat their previous words. It's the flip flop routine.

Apple uncertainty turned inside out. Poor souls don't know which end is up.

It's not fanboi hypocrisy; it's that the fanboi's don't like current OLEDs. I am among that latter number. Currently, the colours pop too much for me, but then again, I am a photographer and look at screens differently.

The only other problem is that OLED still isn't as easy to see in the daylight. If those issues are fixed (and the displays are kept reasonably low-powered), I will embrace OLED very very happily.

The same goes for computer displays and TV's.

It's not about eating words. The ones that will need to eat their words are the ones saying: OLED is worthless (as a tech and has no future) and the ones saying that fanbois are hypocrites.

Fanbois exist of OLED, LCD, and Apple. Everyone will eat their words eventually. Currently, I prefer IPS LCD, but really really look forward to better OLED.

I'd much rather have an OLED display in my living room TV. Who cares about the black level of a tiny phone display..?

You mentioned update issues, which xda can fix :p Nothing we can do about hardware omissions though yeah.

One thing I miss on my GSII compared to my atrix and xperia arc is the notification led... thankfully there's NoLED for that :)

Galaxy S II has an option to toggle between "Movie" (drab), "Standard" (normal) and Dynamic (color-popping).

The Standard setting seems to be similar to my iPhone 4 (without the piss yellow tint though hah).

SAMOLED (and SAMOLED+) have done lots to improve outdoor visibility and I daresay it is as good as my iPhones.

I'd much rather have an OLED display in my living room TV. Who cares about the black level of a tiny phone display..?

So you'd like an OLED display in your TV. Great!

So why not on your phone? Does having deeper blacks make the screen worse?

4.3" is bigger than you might think. It's bloody enormous compared to my iPhone 4.

The epic's Super AMOLED was nicer than my EVO's 65,000 color LCD display but it doesn't hold a candle to the IPS on the iPhone, iMac, or iPad. Also AMOLED brightens up the some colors waaaay more than it should and in some cases, can make images look fake. The color reproduction on Apple's screens is right where it needs to be, and I think going OLED would be a huge mistake.

The black level was pretty good on the AMOLED though.

That's what I keep telling myself. :(

Super AMOLED Plus lets you choose between Movie, Standard and Dynamic mode. Previous AMOLED displays were Dynamic mode only.

In standard mode the colors are similar to that of the iPhone and iPad, but with insane viewing angles (near 180 deg I think) and way deeper blacks.

As Engadget said:

Engadget's review of the GSII said:
Basically, if we haven't made it clear already, this [Super AMOLED Plus] is everything that Super AMOLED was, minus the bad parts and plus an extra .3 inches in real estate.

Yeah, it is quite big, but I got used to it within a week and I'm liking my SGS2 more than my iPhone 4. I don't miss it at all.

Hah your setup is similar to mine- Air, Galaxy S II, iPad and Kindle :p

The black level was pretty good on the AMOLED though.

"Pretty good", huh? How about as good as theoretically possible? How can you get more than absolute black (ie an emissive display with zero current to the pixel)?
