The foldable iphones are definitely coming hopefully sooner rather than later, but don't worry people, the normal 'candy bar' iphones will be sold as normal for a long time, but the Iphone Fold will be sold at a higher tier than the current Iphone Pro's(essentially becoming the most premium iphone available).

Everyone crapping on folding phones now will go apes**t when Apple releases theirs. Just like they did big screen phones and styli (on iPads).

It’s interesting how often the stylus thing is misremembered.

Steve’s comment was about the use of a stylus as a primary means of input onto a phone (which was pretty common for resistive touch screens back then)

I want a foldable iPhone next year, pathetic apple always decades away while other companies are at their 3rd gen ???

Well, at least it's actually something new to talk about. Can't even imagine how excited they must be at the prospect of unveiling something other than a larger camera lol.

More likely to see a unibody iPhone with screen on back and front than a folding iPhone

It’s more likely we will see a tablet that unfolds into a larger tablet or a laptop form factor, rather than a phone that unfolds into a tablet.

If it can be priced higher with people still buying it Apple will make it. Apple doesn’t care whether you have both an iPhone and iPad mini or just an iPhone as long as they can keep their profits high and maintain their margins.

There is no touch screen Mac because a touch screen desktop OS is still ergonomically terrible. When I use the Magic Trackpad even on iPad OS I never touch the screen.
And it’s the same thing. The folding screen is not needed and it will break. I’d say it’s worse than touchscreen on Mac.

So in a addition to the possibilities of electronics failure and software failure, we can now add mechanical (fold failure)? Swell.

Unless a foldable phone is made of two separate screens joined by a robust precision hinge, then no thank you.

Whether it’s a gimmick or not I have no problem with it. It’s not as if they’d stop making regular iPhone pros. But this isn’t even a remote possibility unless apple feels they nailed it. iPhone brand is way too important to them vs a Samsung who couldn’t care less. Hey try this.

If 2022 brings a redesigned iPhone, then foldable iPhone could happen in 2024 only. Don’t think the new design will last one year only. But Apple could definitely launch the foldable iPhone as a different category of iPhones altogether. In this case, the launch could happen anytime.

It’s gimmicky but could work if Apple can fix the possible issue of screen issues and hinge issues with the constant opening/closing.. ie durability issues.
It’s basically an iPad Mini with cellular features but foldable.
Being Apple, the cost will be extravagant that mainly the first buyers would be Apple fan people, tech people and people with money to show off. They’ll beta test the unit to see how popular is may or may not get. If it does get popular, the general population will be better off waiting for version 2 hopefully at a lower price point.

But that’s what I like about Apple, they don’t enter a new product category until they are ready, or they see a purpose for it.
You have Samsung, LG and Sony if you want a company that’ll just make everything.
There’s a reason Apple didn’t make a 3-D TV back in the day, or a touchscreen iMac, or a blu-ray player, or a touchscreen refrigerator, or an airfryer, or a smart washing machine.

I want iPad apps, split-screen multitasking, slide over windows, app expose, and support for multiple instances of the same app. I don’t much need Pencil support.
Then here’s a solution, get an iPad.
Or even better, maybe hope that Apple puts that in something actually practical, like, say, maybe a pair of glasses?
Not a bendable piece of plastic

Me thinks it’s more likely we will see a pair of glasses that extends your phone screen and gives you more capabilities, instead of a bending piece of plastic with a big crease down the center that you can’t even use an Apple Pencil with
