The only thing I want to fold is a slice of pizza. I like iPhones unfolded.
You're not going to see a foldable iPhone like the Galaxy Z Fold type devices that are 2 in 1 devices. Apple has a major problem that cannot be fixed. Apple took the path where they separated iPhone apps and iPad apps on their app store. Therefore that alone makes it impossible to make a foldable device that is both an iPhone and a iPad in one device. Apple only a few years ago took a path to further separate iPhones and iPads by separating iOS into iPadOS for iPads and iOS for iPhones. Why do you think there is foldables for Android today? Because Google's Android took the path where one app would support both smartphones and tablets. This makes it easier to make a foldable smartphone/tablet in one device. That type of device will never exist in Apple's world. So 2023-24 will be long gone, and Apple still won't have a foldable like those 2 in 1 foldable devices. Just you wait and see. Apple will never have a device like the Galaxy Z Fold's. Mark my words.

I am sure they'd release foldOS or something like that

Besides the novelty, I really don’t see a serious use case for foldable iPhones. Apple‘s past success has been founded on the features they choose NOT to add. I hope this continues.
Most things people use their iPhones for are not serious use cases.

Surely you can see there advantage of taller landscape view, if for no other reason than the keyboard not covering 60% of the usable screen.

Communication (including emergency), navigation, medical tracking (sleep, medical records), appointments, banking and more are not serious use cases?

Communication - Less screen covered by the keyboard
Navigation, larger maps display more route info
Appointments, see more entries on your busy calendar.

Larger screen makes almost all of those use cases better

Anyone who has been using cellphones from the beginning could see how folding phones is a huge step backwards. What we have now has been the stripping of useless gimmicks, clutter and undue complexity. That was the whole appeal of the introduction of the iPhone.

Do you think Apple will release a foldable phone in the future? And how do you think Apple would reduce the "gimmicks, clutter, and undue complexity."?

Apple already did reduce it all to one clean screen. I highly doubt they will follow Android backwards and delve back into the dark early days of Android where they would throw spaghetti at the wall. And that is exactly what Android is doing once again with "foldable screens"
What's next? Slide out keyboards?

Apple's implementation won't have any undue complexity; open it for a large screen, close it for a regular screen, and whatever you are doing on one screen will just transfer to the other automatically. Apple already has a multitasking and app switching system which will translate over without any problems; they will probably limit it to 50/50 so it will be seamless with the fold.

You get a phone call and have to open it up to take it, holding a phablet up to your face, seriously?

Tell me you don't know anything about folding phones without saying it.

You answer the phone with it folded if the phone is folded.
So this foldable phone has not 2 but 3 screens on it, and is large, thick and heavy, looking like a satellite phone. Either way I don’t see Apple going in this direction. A foldable iPad perhaps, but a foldable phone is a gimmick.

No, it has two screens.

I have a regular sized iPhone and since getting AirPods its rare that I hold that one up to my head when making calls so I doubt a thicker iPhone would be an imposition either. But if you don't want the size you don't have to buy it, just like you don't have to buy an iPhone Pro Max when you prefer the smaller iPhone Mini or SE.

You don't have to open it up to take a call on any of the current foldables. (They also have an outside screen)

I have one of the Samsung Flip 3's, and yes, it's a little heavier than a similar main screen sized candy bar phone, but when folded it takes up just a little bit more than half the size. It's actually pretty great if you have shallow pockets. I also like the fact that when closed, the screen is protected from anything else in your pocket. Screen scratches are one of the things I very much dislike about candy bar phones.

I really don't think it's a gimmick, as a lot of people will buy them. A majority, maybe not, but it'll sell well enough to keep a market presence. (heck, it already does)

My other phone is an iPhone 13 Mini, and even though it's lighter, it doesn't fit as well in a pocket. My last iPhone was an 11 Pro Max and I really got tired of the size and weight, but let me buy a Pro Max in a flip foldable, I'd order on day 1.

I dunno, I used to love my flip phone. There's something very satisfying about closing it with a snap when you're done with it. Or just opening it so that you can snap it closed.

While I'd love a phone that's a combination flip phone iPhone, I don't think Apple is the company that would be able to make it. They tend to make things that are pretty, but easily broken with any sort of exaggerated use.

Thank you. Also the husbands of millions of wives who shove their iPhones in their back pocket thank you as well.

I sure hope people are testing these useless hinged all-screen phones by having millions of women sit on them day in and day out.

Please apple make a flip phone this year for mums on the go that don’t like Samsung. Still give us that big screen and then we can fold it and go…..
I bet a lot of mums like me who LOVE their iPhone wants it too…
I am a very techy mum but would love that I can fold it and go…

2025 at the earliest, if ever!

Imagine one of those old Nokia 8800 pop or slide phones. What I wouldn’t give for an 8800 style IPhone that closes to half a screen, but then pops up to give us the 6.5-6.7 screen. Amazing. This Nokia ball bearing slides were incredibly satisfying. Apple could do it then some.

Or modelled after a Nokia 8110 that slides out by itself and comes out of sleep mode with a screen that powers on like below and the Apple iPhone Matrix could also announce, "We missed you, Mr Anderson."
