I know this is MacRumors an all, but hear me out: I'm not the type of person to let myself get carried away. And while I enjoy the rumors- don't you think it's a little much?

No one has even given any thought about the possibility of there not being a next generation iPad in a few days.

They just say, "No! It's coming whether you believe it or not."

But what about the iPhone5-in-the-bar fiasco? The "iPhone 5 prototype" unboxing video? The misinformed manufactures who build cases for non existent products?

Let's not get carried away.

The reason why I believe that there is a possibility that there may not be another iPad in the next few weeks is because- who's the target market? I mean look at all Apple has done. Incredible. Schools are using iPad 2's. Pilots are using iPad 2's. And many others who are just recieving them or haven't recieved them yet.

What would happen if another one was released? Is the market ready for that kind of thing?

All I see is baseless rumors. They can't even think up anything good and there is no reason to have another iPad. LTE? Better resolution? Could you imagine how poorly that would sell? Let's save that for when we can have some better ideas.

The iPad 2 is the it. And it will be for months to come. It can't get any thinner. It's not in need of an upgrade.

Now, that first week of March, if I'm wrong you can all come and tell me "I told you so!"

But if I'm right.....

I personally will buy the iPad 3, if it comes with the better scree with higher resolution.
I really think the current iPad 2 screen sucks, when it comes to pixalation, sharpness and reading quality.
I'm shortsighted and often use my iPad 2 in bed at night and because of my shortsighted vision I see very good up close and the Ipad 2's screen kind of suck and look really pixelated, when I look at it up closely whereas my iPhone 4 with its retina screen looks outstanding and sharp from just about every angle and distance from the screen.

So I would buy an iPad 3 if it comes with the better screen just because of that and nothing else :)

:)

As soon as I get confirmation from Apple I'll be excited. Apple and only Apple. I will not be excited by tech blogs. I refuse.

We're just going to have to agree to disagree on what we each consider constitutes a concrete rumor. I trust the WSJ and Dalrymple, you do not. I suggest less time on MR talking about said rumors and more time visiting apple.com on or around March 7th if you want it to hear it straight from the horse's mouth. You might have to hit refresh a few times but all the info you need will be there.

If you have a reason for upgrading other than wanting the latest and greatest, then no it's not crazy, but there are so many people who sell their products in blind readiness for buying the next gen one just because they must have the latest and greatest.

This is something I don't like.

why does it matter if people do this? it provides supply for the used market. not sure what you don't like about this? everyone has their own choice and if they choose to buy the latest and greatest just to have the latest and greatest, then it's up to them.

I'm as much an Apple enthusiast as all of you- but I keep a cool head- reality is we're talking about something that isn't real.

If Apple had announced a 3, then I could see the fun in being excited about it. But we're just talking about made up stuff.

You don't have to be so rabid with foam at your mouth and so territorial- think reasonably. Apple hasn't said anything.

To be fair...

If you have any experience with Apple's product release you can pin it down to some extent. Apple uses the rumour mill very effectively, and while leaks are far less common than in years gone by you can still ballpark product releases within reason if you keep your ear to the ground.

Well actually- I don't really read MR currently, I just hang out in the Forums. I like rumors with just a little bit of truth to it.

You have been very prolific here though. Since you signed up on January 27th (less than 3 weeks ago) you have started 33 threads and made 394 posts.

That's enough time here to realize that a ground swell of rumours does precede a product release. The fun for people on rumour sites is trying to amalgamate that information and in the speculation.

A bigger question, if you don't mind me asking, is why are you troubled by people's speculation?

I enjoy rumors. Real ones. What we are hearing today are not rumors. It's just made-up crap. I don't find fun in being lied to.

These are coming from well-known tech blogs, anybody else and I'd say we were being trolled.

But I'm not gonna make a big deal about it because it's fine. What other choice do they have?

I just want to make sure people don't lose their heads.

Amidst a boatload of false claims about the release of a next generation product puts a bad reputation on the release of the actual product. Don't you think that the iPhone 4S was poorly recieved because of all the rumor?

People were expecting an iPhone 5. All I have to say is hold your horses.

You say you aren't going to make a big deal about it, yet you start a thread about it. If that isn't making a big deal, I'm not sure what is.

And how do you think a rumor can be "real"? By definition, all rumors are unconfirmed assertions. As far as the iPhone 5 goes, a lot of case makers thought the rumors credible enough that they paid a lot of money to make cases based on those rumors. Was that all "made up crap," or was there some sort of basis for them? (ie, Apple had plans for a tear-drop design, but for some reason dropped it) We'll never know, because that is the nature of rumors. If you don't like being disappointed by rumors, then by all means, don't read them. But don't come around asking for "real" rumors, because there is no such thing.

Real Rumors!!! Isn't that an oxy moron? Like cold heat.
I don't know if you are new to the apple world or not, but most rumored releases are based on time frames of previous releases (iPad 1-April, ipad2-march) and creditable sources. The ones that have been right in the past are predicting the dates. If you recall the ones claiming a September 2011 iPad 3 were sources that had little to no credibility in apple predictions. All thing D and WSJ have been right in the past, alot. Besides, until the release of iPhone 4s in oct. apple has had a history of 10-12 month product cycles with ios devices and iPods. I think it is more unreasonable to believe there will not be an announcement in march than to believe at this point.

OP: Here is some recent history that points to a certain amount of certainty surrounding current rumors. It's fine to not trust rumors at all, but it's entirely different to equate ridiculous rumors coming from case manufacturers and supply chain analysts with those of people who of late have had absolutely the correct information in recent history.

If I had to bet money, these people are not just posting "made-up crap" as you say.

A real rumor has a backstory to it. It makes sense. It came from a real source. It has reasons.

I'm not saying that there won't be. I'm not saying that at all. All I'm saying is that I want people to know: There is still a possibility, still a chance that ther could be... a change in plans. Something will happen, that you will not expect.

I just want to see if these people are telling the truth.

:)

No. Not at all. As much as I like Apple products- I don't like all of them. I haven't been wholly impressed with iPad thus far- but I would try a (hypothetical) iPad 3 if they brought something new to the table.

I just like to wait for a confirmation before I start talking this deep into it.

As soon as I get confirmation from Apple I'll be excited. Apple and only Apple. I will not be excited by tech blogs. I refuse.

If you only care what Apple says what the HELL are you doing on mac RUMORS??????

besides trolling of course

The best reason I can think of for there to have a new iPad released is strictly because of the 4G LTE option with both Verizon and AT&T. Both companies have invested a grotesque amount into this technology but it has yet to take off. The iPad 2 has such a following, which only continues to build momentum, that the general population now understands the capabilities of a tabulate. Tie this following into a 4G LTE platform and now the flood gates open. I see no issue with market saturation, only a boost in both Apple sales and 4G LTE contracts.

It strikes me as extremely pompous for you to presume that you have to post on a rumors forum so that all us simple folk understand there is a possibility. There is always a possibility. It's possible that the world will end tomorrow. But you keep that in the back of your mind and live life with presumptions and expectations based on experience. Sure it is possible, but the possibility of it happening is greater than not. And as far as apple not saying anything, again you must be knew but apple never reveals any info prior to the keynote and they only send out invites to said event a week before. So apples silence does not lend credibility one way or another.

jfyrfytr25, jb1280, E.Lizardo, nate13...

You all have made excellent points.

On one hand, it is how Apple does it. What reason would anyone have to lie, right? I guess there's nothing wrong with a few rumors.

It's stressful for consumers because you don't know whether or not to buy an iPad- in this (what I call) "Yellow light" period, which is now the "Red light" period.

I like Apple and I like MacRumors-

At this point- I am going to be silent until March 7th.

Now, that first week of March, if I'm wrong you can all come and tell me "I told you so!"

But if I'm right.....

None of it is "baseless". The release date assumptions are based on Apple's normal product refresh cycle. Generally, Apple "refreshes" their major product line around the same time every year. Of course, there have been exceptions (iPhone 4s) and there is always the possibility of a delay but those scenarios are out of the norm.

As far as there not being a need for a new iPad 3 -- thats something for each consumer to decide on his/her own. Personally, I'd happily trade my iPad2 for a retina display, LTE, and Siri, I doubt I'm the only one. I'm also sure there are tons of people who have iPad 1s that are ready for an upgrade. Folks buying their first iPad will likely get the newest one regardless.

There's no certain date when the iPad 3 will come out, so the speculation here is valid in the sense that nobody can accurately predict. But I'd have to assume that the iPad 3 will not be delayed given how important it has become to Apple's business.

I have an iPad2. If a slightly faster processor and a better screen are the only new major features, I'll probably upgrade just on that alone.

Apple will sell millions of them to people who just want to upgrade, to say nothing of new customers.

Anything's possible, but I don't see how its likely unless there are manufacturing or other issues that physically prevents it from coming out.

I like Apple's model because it seems to me it actually DOES give people that opportunity to catch up. I bought an iPhone 3G, skipped 3GS, bought an iPhone 4, skipped iPhone 4s, and I'll be buying this year's iPhone, whenever that is. I've got the iPod nano from right before they switched to squares, and just bought an iPod Touch. I can skip every other iteration of an Apple product, knowing full well there will just be more to come, and if I wanted to be crazy enough to buy them all, I'd be broke instead of able to enjoy what I already have. I bought an iPad at launch, skipped the iPad 2, and I will probably buy this year's iteration to go with my 2011 iMac.

Nice I'm on the same pattern. It seems as though every other release is the large leap of product spec advancement. Not to say this 'pattern' will remain constant BUT it's working out for me so far :D

I also enjoy the fact that the iPhone model upgrades are on different yr -- basically 1 yr I buy new iPhone model the next a new iPad and im not feeling 'left out or as if I have a dinosaur of a phone' and saving some money as some cannot afford to buy the new model iPhone, iPad and iPod every yr. that's why I always just buy the largest iPhone gig. I use that to take all photos and endless music will fit on it.

Also, no hard feeling to those who already sold their iPad2, i truly feel your angst for the 3 but I do agree w the op. I don't think the ipad3 will be first week of march.

I enjoy rumors. Real ones. What we are hearing today are not rumors. It's just made-up crap.
Says who, exactly? And if the answer to that question is YOU, then who made you such an expert?

Amidst a boatload of false claims about the release of a next generation product puts a bad reputation on the release of the actual product. Don't you think that the iPhone 4S was poorly recieved because of all the rumor?
Haha. Poorly received? I assume you haven't seen the sales figures?

Why would you say the iPhone 4S is not the iPhone 5?

Just because the name stayed the same and looked the same doesn't mean it has the same power under the hood.

Yeah, I'd have to disagree with you on that.

iPad 3 is coming and it will be incredible. For my needs, add a decent camera (both sides) and I am good. Oh and make it a bit faster.

:D

+1 on the "I told you so"

How much you wanna bet he won't say another word in this thread?
