Just had Fedex guy drop off 7 boxes. I only ordered 6 iPads. There's an iPad 2 in the last box (16GB WiFi).

Free gift with purchase? LOL doubtful.

Calling Apple to return it. No idea why it came with the rest of the shipment. Actually sort of happy the Apple store lines aren't bad as I'll be right by there later today and can perhaps return this to the store rather than waiting for another Fedex pickup?

Remember that there were no presales for iPad 2.

For some, this might be one of those situations where if something is too easy to get, people don't value it quite as much.

I guess people are content with older ipads and apple did a great job with presales and inventories.

Everyone seems able to stroll in.

Oh well.

Your experience?

Was it addressed to you? If not, a FedEx pickup would ensure it gets to the person it was addressed to.

You can go the extra mile and deliver it yourself if its not too far. It will make you feel good to see the guys face when you hand it to him. :D

Your very truthful..well done.

I would have kept it....(ijoke) :D

+1...i think it's great that everyone who wants to buy one today isn't being turned away.

I guess its funny to see people equate long lines and out of stock inventory as signs of a successful launch.

In my opinion, having millions of units sold while there's plenty left for those who want them so they can get it with no stress and without paying huge markups to scalpers is TRULY a successful launch.

Preordered for instore pickup. Got there at 7:55, was back in the car by 8:10.

There was a line, but it was moving pretty good.

?

Not sure how that's funny. If I don't sell it's a quick trip to apple.

Either way I have an iPad and you don't so HA!

It's funny because ******s who try to rip people off are scumbags. Yes scumbags.

It's nice that they don't have that option as much this time.

This is a *good* thing, and this his how product launches should be. A nice pre-sale (two week lead in) to absorb some of the hysteria and move some stock allowing for normal lines at the actual stores on release day. Wasn't this also the case with the iPhone 4? I pre-ordered then as well.

Seriously, how is it ripping someone off? Do you think the person who flips a house is ripping off the person who buys it from them?

If someone is willing to pay several hundred dollars more for something that is in demand and has a low supply... where is the harm in that? That is simple economics and has nothing to do with morality or being a good human.

Reselling gives people a way to offset the cost of something they want.

I say hold on to the extra iPad until next week and see if the inventory stays high. If it does, return it no questions asked to Apple. If it sells out... then hey, you just got your iPad for a discount.

Is the 7th box sent to you? Or someone else? If it was sent to you, you have a right to keep it and not have to pay for it. Just FYI.

Yes, it was addressed to me. No, I wasnt charged for it.

And my "rights" have nothing to do with my own code of ethics. Its not mine, clearly was a mistake somewhere in processing, it goes back to the rightful owner, Apple.

ZBoat, I called Apple, they called Fedex and they are sending a driver back out to pick it up. Done deal.

Positive karma thoughts going your way....

Walked my dog past my neighborhood Apple Store (Clarendon, Arlington, VA) around 9AM expecting the usually insane lines. No line at all. Then I thought they sold out early. Nope. They had every model, so I picked up a 32GB white AT&T (which I will probably be exchanging for the Verizon model because it won't connect to AT&T's LTE network.)

Not seeing the throng of people restores my faith in humanity actually. Apple made a pre-order available. If you got a pre-order in right away, you'd have one today without doing anything extra. Why go sit on a concrete sidewalk all night and then maybe NOT get one?

What should worry you is if the pre-order quantities were not gone by now. All signs are pointing to record sales numbers for this thing and order times are already out to 2-3 weeks. Soon it will be 4-5 weeks. THAT'S a beautiful thing.

I have a 16G on it's way for my wife from Fedex to replace her iPad1. I found a guy wanting to buy my iPad2, so I sold it and decided to get a new iPad myself. So I went to the nearest Best Buy, stood in a 30 minute line and got mine.

I walked into the mall nearby to see what was going on in the Apple Store and saw this -

Ropes set up for long lines, but no one there. The staff said there was a line when they opened, but no more than 50 people. I think that the pre-order had a huge impact, also not sure people who bought the iPad2 the last time feel the need to upgrade. Interesting to see what the sales numbers will look like.

Don't have an Apple store close by so will report on other stores. Both my target and Best Buy had available stock and no or very little lines. Got to the Best Buy at 10 AM when they opened and walked right to the checkout line for the 32G wifi only models. No wait, no muss no fuss.

It's human nature to want what you can't get. Ease of fulfillment reduces stress and diminishes excitement. Excitement junkies feel a let down.

Frankly, if you do feel this way (your not alone), best to find things to do that occupy your time so that you won't experience this. I'm sure you will agree this may be a waste of time.

Wise Sage :)

In other words, they didn't bother building hype to increase sales.

I thought Apple was crazy allowing in-store pickup today for pre-orders, but I guess they were just very accurate at predicting the impact of pre-orders on the actual lines.

Just got back from Grand Central where we picked up our pre-ordered iPad. People with pre-orders could walk right in, people who hadn't were lined up on a nearby train platform. Didn't see how long the line was, but one person we talked to inside the store said they waited about 40-45 minutes to get in. Store was only open to people buying iPads, I've never seen that store so calm and quiet, lol!

We ordered one more for delivery, which we are still waiting for. Pre-order for pickup is the way to go, if the option is avaiable!

That is surprisingly short for a launch day of a new product from Apple. I wonder if we will see a drop in sales vs the iPad 2 last year.

With no preorders available we waited 10 hours in line for the iPad 2's late afternoon launch.

For this one my wife drove up to our Apple store at 8:30 this morning and walked in, got the one we wanted and left. No line at all.

Gotta be honest, I'm shocked.
