Not sure how that's funny. If I don't sell it's a quick trip to apple.

Either way I have an iPad and you don't so HA!

I think he was more conveying the disgust that most of us share when you buy more than they need just to try and turn around and sell something for more than it is "worth" immediately after.

Everybody and their brother got an ipad2 for Christmas. Three months later the ipad 3 comes out. No wonder the demand is not that high. Besides the ipad2 is very sweet, and if it wasnt for this 4x screen there would be no reason to upgrade

I dont understand your mentality.

After all the margin on these ipads is 50%. Damn Apple making us pay more than they are worth.

Pure and simple capitalism. I have something scarce, you want it, pay up. Or wait a couple of weeks.

On one hand you guys are all about materialism, got to have it now, but not if you have to work (aka wait in line) for it.

pre-orders ate up a HUGE amount of initial buyers. The people lining up are the people who were waiting after the conference refreshing their browser to pre-order. This was expected. Happy about it.. last year was a headache hoping to get a unit launch day.

The reason they were scarce before was scalpers and the like were buying more than they intended to use so that they can create a shortage and sell them for a larger profit than Apple is making. You're making a profit off of somebody else's product at the expense of others. Whether it's capitalism or not, ethically and morally it's a bit sleazy (to me and to others). All I can say is what goes around comes around. I'm glad Apple had enough supply this time around to thwart those would-be scalpers :)

It's funny because ******s who try to rip people off are scumbags. Yes scumbags.

It's nice that they don't have that option as much this time.

Funny how it's possible to "rip someone off" by completing a mutually agreeable transaction.

Seriously, how is it ripping someone off? Do you think the person who flips a house is ripping off the person who buys it from them?

If someone is willing to pay several hundred dollars more for something that is in demand and has a low supply... where is the harm in that? That is simple economics and has nothing to do with morality or being a good human.

Reselling gives people a way to offset the cost of something they want.

It is ripping someone off if you buy the product from underneath them (someone who would have gone to the store and bought one anyway). Flipping a house usually includes fixing it up first, not sneaking in directly before someone else and buying it ONLY because you know they are willing to pay more for it.

The fact that you are attempting to drain the supply in order to drive up the price is what makes you a dick. The bad part about this is the guy that only has enough $$ to buy it at MSRP and went to the store (say for the iPad2) and it sold out before he got one cause some people bought multiples. That is where the hate comes from.

Just wanted to let you know I notified the proper authorities of your personal attack on this forum.

I'm an idiot for trying to sell something for profit? Dude that's how the economy works!

Lol - do You work for a non profit? Do u work for free ?

Guess what? Nobody is holding a gun to anyone's head and forcing them to pay more than retail price for an iPad. It's going to be worth what people are willing to pay for it. If no one wants to pay more than retail price, well then, the scalpers are f'd. Simple economics. Get with the program.

Your "margin" calculation probably only takes the actual materials and labor to build the iPad, not the year of R&D to upgrade the specs and system and do testing on it.

Mine was a preorder but for fun I took a ride. I am in northern NJ (Union County).

3 Targets I checked are all out except 1 has 2 64GB While wi-fi left (Clark). Says he only got in 15 in total.

Apple store in Woodbridge Mall (best laugh yet) 11:30AM. They have at least 20 blue shirt "security guys" roaming around, gotta be 50 sales "people" and ZERO people in line. Plenty of stock left in all sizes & types. Water bottles stacked up at the beginning of the (empty) line to hand out.

Interesting note. The store ONLY carries Apple Smart covers and no 3rd party cases of any type for any iPad.

VZW and ATT stores both sold out (each said they only "got a few in.").

Thats one reason. The other reason is because the individual who wants to walk in and pick one up decides to do it after work instead of before work where he might have to wait in a long line. Now the people who wait in line and are 53rd, yet there are only 50 ipads. Those are the ones I feel sorry for.

They had 758 million in R&D, 46 billion in revenues and 20Billion is gross profit, so R&D is 2% of revenue. Still alot though

Tim Cook is better at the supply chain game perhaps.

In the pre-order serial number thread, folks posted the manufacturing date. Apple start building Ipad since Jan 1 this year. In 4Q11, Apple sold 15.47 million Ipad. So they have manufacturing capacity to build 4-5 million Ipad a month and they have been building the new Ipad for 2+ months. Remember they launch today in 10 countries. The delay in shipping is really caused by the logistics and mostly the cargo space on the plane from China (shipping rate from Chine bump up 20% for the last few weeks). I think the sales will be tremendous and once the rest of folks see the new display, they will probably want one to.
