Release the cheaper phone until after the holidays to push more people into the more expensive Pro phone for a gift.

Same strategy carmakers used making more expensive cars with tons of features trying to push people into more profitable units that cost little more to make and roll off the same factory.

With interest rates and inflation what they are, that's not working out too well for carmakers.

I can see this also driving more sales of the higher end models. If the only "new" iPhones are Pro models and above, then some people who might have otherwise gone for the regular iPhone would just get the more expensive models rather than waiting and not having the latest and greatest. But on the backend some could incorrectly claim Apple has raised the price of iPhones.

The twice a year release is what they should have done since 2018 (or 2020) but better late than never, I guess. The SE models and new colors are not counted.

Let's just hope that the performance of iOS 27 will not be worse on the base model compared to the Pro model.

I think this is turning into a riskier gambit than when they would have first planned it.

Economic instability has customers way more price conscious than even a few years ago. Pushing the base and budget models ahead a quarter might not drive Pro sales like it would have in better economic conditions.

Unless it gets 12 GB RAM, it is going to feel like an 18e by the time it launches.
I normally don't pay attention to how much RAM is in a phone. However, since we now know that Siri Ai's more expressive voices and more accurate dictation features require 12 GB of RAM, it will be interesting to see if the iPhone 18 will come equipped with the 12 GB that's necessary for those features.

It would make more sense to push the Air along with the Pro models, considering its price. It's not low cost.

I fully expect them to spec bump the Air and launch it alongside the Pro and the Fold in September. The margins are higher and you're getting an upgraded processor and camera ahead of the regular model
