No, I'll admit I haven't tried Alfred but I did go and read about it. I might try it as a last resort but I'm fairly sure it won't suit me.

I tried the opensearch, duckduckgo, ixquick and startpage extensions for safari but none of them did what I want so I'm currently restoring from a Time Machine Mountain Lion backup.

I'm going to wait until some enterprising souls are able to restore a drop-down in safari's search bar before upgrading again. Glims appears to have been abandoned, though, which would be a real blow as I also used its ability to size the tabs more appropriately.

As an addendum, I only use the Bookmarks Bar and have no need whatsoever for the new sidebar. I'm also upset that the "Bookmarks" tab has gone from the preferences as I can no longer banish reader and topsites from my bookmarks bar. The "Bookmark +" button has gone from the customisable toolbar options too.

I've used safari on my mac ever since I bought it in 2011. On the Mac I believe it's the best browser.

Chrome 31 beta is beating safari by about 40% on the Mac...

I gave up on Chrome for Safari two weeks ago. Now I'm back again.

If only Apple allowed me to sync Safari and Chrome bookmarks, I would at least prefer Safari on iOS. But of course they don't and they won't.

How did you get this 40%?

Which operating system are you using?
Which version of Safari are you comparing it to?
What kind of cpu and memory usage are you seeing with Chrome 31 beta?

Please note this thread is talking about Safari version 7.0 running on OS x 10.9 GM.

Yes, I'm using Safari 7.0 and Chrome 31 beta on Mavericks GM.

I'm using a rMBP 16GB RAM 2.7 quad-core processor.

CPU and memory usage are pretty much the same on both browsers, but I think Chrome uses more RAM because it loads all open tabs to RAM (at least it looks like so).

Anyway, Chrome is always the most power-hungry of all browsers, but I don't care much because I rarely depend on batteries on my rMBP.

I just wanted Apple to let other browsers run the last iOS webkit, then Chrome would be unbeatable.

You do know JavaScript is a small portion of websites, right?

I wouldn't say it is so small... Anyway, all webpages are loading instantaneously, like if they were cached on RAM.

I can't envision anything faster than my eyes would catch other than that.

Does Chrome beta performance usually translate into release build performance?

I think it does. Not to mention Chrome has many more features and flexibility. I'd only choose Safari if it's faster and you don't need the extra features. If Chrome is just as fast or faster, choosing it over Safari is a no-brainer IMO.

I thought of using Safari for lighter resources, but I just cannot live without pinned tabs. It's such a simple feature, I have no idea how Apple could leave it out. I just compared the difference with 6 tabs pinned in Chrome vs Safari. It was huge!

I'm a big Chrome user and will continue to be with Mavericks, however I do see much improved battery life when using Safari with my Air on the Mavericks GM. I think I'll use Safari when I don't have it docked and plugged in.

I keep Chrome for the embedded Flash plug. It may as well be a Youtube kiosk style browser for me.

I hate Chrome because Google is constantly changing little things about it for NO reason and they drive me crazy. They don't listen to user feedback either. They changed the font size of the url bar to a larger one and now it looks so ugly. So many people complained and Google said they won't fix it. They've been doing things like this for years and I finally got sick of it. Now the only time I use it is for megaupload

You're obviously wrong.

Oh, obviously.

We should all choose our browsers based on JavaScript performance because it makes up 90% of all websites. I worded it wrong, but what I meant was something along the lines of ... how silly it is to say "Yeah, well, this has a better score on SunSpider ... obviously it is faster". IE was winning the SunSpider test for a while, didn't mean it was faster than everything else. :|

Maybe another point I can add here is that, Chrome requires discrete graphic card while Safari doesn't. It is a big difference to battery life on the macbook pros that automatically switch between integrate and discrete graphic cards. For this reason alone, I would prefer to use Safari more.
Of course, there are other reasons for the choice, which have been covered in earlier posts.

Chrome doesn't require dGPU. But when running WebGL, it tries to use dGPU. For regular use, including Youtube video, it runs on current GPU, even it's integrated. I simply use gfxCardStatus to lock on integrated GPU. Even WebGL runs fine.

I also love Safari in 10.9.
Only installed Firefox for complement because one forum does´t have safari comp site.

I still don't use Safari much. I've recently been using the Opera 18 Developer build, and it's my favourite browser by far lately.

Only issue is, it doesn't have real bookmarks just yet. It has a Bookmarks bar, and Speed Dial.

Safari should have a build-in flash player like Chrome - i would kick chrome
But Adobe Flash Player will never run on my system :D

I tried to use Safari, but I get a lot of page load hangs, scrolling freezes, and sometimes I click on links and nothing happens no matter how many times I click on them. So I'm going back to Chrome for now.
