Found Safari massively improved - it's better than Firefox in speed but I'll put up with the loss in performance with Firefox sync, Adblock and all the other useful extensions I use across all my windows, mac and Linux set ups.

Chrome will still be used for flash content :D

If ads weren't as annoying as they are, fewer people would use Adblock.

I contribute enough of my time watching youtube videos with my phone where I am forced to watch ads. They don't need to waste my time twice.

Content supported by ads needs to have ads shown to live. I would imagine a hefty percentage of MacRumors users would use an Adblocker, which at a site of this size isn't hugely bad. This site can stay alive because of its size. It's smaller sites and channels that can cause a make or break scenario. It's effectively stealing content. Taking something without payment (the ad) but still continuing to use the sites resources. It's becoming a more common tread sadly. A 1/5 of IGN's users use an Adblocker stopping them from creating more content, employing more people etc. It's bad for everyone. In my mind you either have a paywall or something ad supported. I want the sites I love to prosper and continue to put out great content; without any revenue that'll stop happening. I don't mean to harp on at either of you nor am I judging your decisions but I've seen and been personally affected by this and it sucks.

Peer Schneider (IGN Co-Founder) did a great job of explaining how it affects IGN: http://bit.ly/1caG1E5

Chrome doesn't require dGPU. But when running WebGL, it tries to use dGPU. For regular use, including Youtube video, it runs on current GPU, even it's integrated. I simply use gfxCardStatus to lock on integrated GPU. Even WebGL runs fine.

what is the model of your macbook pro? I use gfxCardStatus too. It shows chrome requests on discrete card as soon as it starts. Mine is an early 2010 macbook pro running osx 10.9.

Mine doesn't either (see sig).

What you can do, is start Chrome like this:

open -a /Applications/Google\ Chrome.app/ --args --gpu-switching=force_integrated --ignore-gpu-blacklist

If that works fine for you, you can package it as a small app using Automator, which you can then use to start Chrome from your Dock or where you start it from.

My model: Mid 2012 MBP with Retina Display.

But I don't really think it's model dependent. Perhaps your web sites with some particular contents that trigger Chrome to activate dGPU. If you start with blank page, you might be able to pinpoint which web site it's.

Attached is a screenshot when I was wring this post in Chrome. You can see the gfxCardStatus drop down menu.

It used to ALWAYS force the dedicated GPU, though I just checked myself, and it seems it does default to integrated now, which is awesome. I'm sure we all picked up some battery life somewhere in there.

Now I should check to see if Chrome accelerates Flash with the GPU as well as Safari yet...

Safari is my go to browser almost all of the time, until i hit fedex.com

For some reason whatever they are using for form generation absolutely murders Safari without fail. Chrome, and firefox handle the site just fine.

When you run a page like that, especially on a major site like Fedex, you should report the URL and issue to Apple via their feedback page. Remember to mention that it works fine in other browsers.

I like Safari, but I don't like how it completely reloads the page when I click back, instead of loading the cached version like FireFox does. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal, but when I browse forums and Reddit, it's quite annoying.

Anyone know how to solve this?

It usually doesn't reload, I've noticed certain extensions cause this to happen, most notably the adblock extension.

I do have adblock. Why would this cause it to reload compared to the FireFox one? Is there a work around?

I've disabled Ad Block for Safari and it really had no effect on the frequency of refreshes, it was the same.

For me sites like reddit always refresh every time I go back if I have adblock enabled, and if I disable adblock it never does. Some sites seem unaffected though, for example on these forums I don't get any refreshes going back/forward whether or not I have adblock enabled.

Some of it might also depend on the website, perhaps some websites cause it to happen for some reason.

EDIT: It also seems to matter whether or not you use the swipe gesture or the back/forward buttons. I hadn't noticed this yet since I always swipe. I discovered when using the back/forward buttons it does indeed always refresh whether or not adblock is enabled, but with the swipe gestures it doesn't, and the swipe gestures are the only one affected by the adblock extension.

For me, the gesture doesn't matter, it reloads either way. But FireFox simply reloads the cache even with AdBlock enabled. Is this extension made by the same person for all browsers?

I would like to use Safari for its battery saving abilities, but this quirk will make me continue to use FireFox.

Count me in as one of those who has Chrome always calling for the discrete card (plus one of my extensions; not sure which one).

The safari adblock extension is by a different author than the firefox "Adblock Plus" extension. Both extensions are available for google chrome (the "Adblock" one that is by the same author as the safari one, and "Adblock Plus" by the same author as the firefox one), but "Adblock Plus" is not available for safari.

Even when I only have start page open, discrete card is still on request by chrome. I think it may be hardware dependent. I just read Dorv's post and the screenshot. It may be a coincidence, but both of us have GT330M installed.

wow, it works like magic. Chrome doesn't request graphic card switch if started with this command. What is gpu blacklist? Is there anything wrong with my computer?

Under all previous versions of OS X I always felt the need to install another browser to supplement Safari. For a time being both Firefox and Chrome were my go to browsers. However, under Mavericks GM, Safari seems by far and away the best it has ever been. Smooth scrolling, low cpu usage, lightning fast loading speeds, low memory usage with multiple tabs etc etc.

Anyone else having significantly improved experience with Safari under Mavericks GM.

Very encouraging... are you on a retina macbook pro by the way? I am asking mostly about that smooth scrolling thing, something that rmbp suffered on Mountain Lion safari.

Yes, I'm on a 15" rMBP. Safari is working perfectly for me, including scrolling.

Just decided to give Safari a try again, and WoW. I am impressed, it's much better than the last time I use it.

Only little issues for me is that the my bookmarks folders don't stay as I arrange them, and that the same website will have different zoom elves for different tabs.

Not much of a issue.

I also notice I have slower uploads in Safari as opposed the Opera 18 developer build. Slower by a factor of 100-300KB/s.

It's feels better than when I used Chrome, and it's only a tad slower than Opera 18. Overall it feels nice, and is nice to use. :)

When i installed maverick on my MBP the first application i installed was Chrome. The next day i uninstalled it because safari is so good.
