I love my iPhone 17 256GB black color. I came from a iPhone 12 mini. This is a huge upgrade for me. This is by the far the phone where you get the best value for money.
How is the size difference. I have a 12 mini and am toying with the 17. The 12 mini is not liking IOS26 and has problems waking up (likely from 84% battery health). But I just love the 12 mini size. :/

Forum users tend to buy the Pro, or in this case, the novelty. This forum typically features yearly upgraders who are not typically satisfied by base models.

I would buy the regular 17 if I hadn’t upgraded to the 16 Plus from my Xʀ still running iOS 12. And I only bought the 16 Plus over the regular 16 due to battery life and screen size.

I think it is the best overall package. I am not interested in compromising anything for thinness, so I would not consider the Air, and the 17 is the best base model iPhone ever. Battery life is significantly worse than the Plus, but significantly better than the Xʀ, and truth be told, I don’t need the Plus’ battery life. I bought it because I liked it.

The 48MP Ultra Wide, the battery life, and the larger display over the regular 16 and the Xʀ would all be very compelling reasons to choose the regular 17 today for me.

Like I said, I think it is the best base model ever released.

This is one of those things you kinda need to try yourself to really know.

I'm okay with similar-size phones. It's not the most comfortable and not really one-handed but workable. I got the Air first before finally deciding on the 17 so it's another 3 weeks or so before I get my phone.

Why did you decide to change?

I would suggest getting a 13 mini. You can still get new sealed-in-box ones from eBay.

I was surprised how quickly I got used to the bigger size. It's honestly not bothering me at all. Maybe took a couple of minutes of adjustment but now I am very happy with it.

Agreed fully… but…. Screens on the 17th are lacking basic qc standards… there is a thread here in MacRumors with proof of evidence. Owner of both 16 and 17 , the 16 has why crisper white and full uniform panel without any green or pink hue while tinting. Had to return the 17 cause the panel with the slightest tilt turned to green aggressively … in terms of specs yes is better but even the main camera to my eyes was identical. Swiss based comment without the upgrade of battery due to physical sim tray. In the store only the pro had uniform made panel.
I had the same issue with the base 16 (aggressive colour tint at the slightest tilt), so it's not an issue unique to the 17. I exchanged it and received a much better screen. I have ordered a base 17 and am hoping to get a good screen on the first go this time.

Οκ so it’s a lottery as it seams unfortunately….this is why I don’t know what should I do since I am fully satisfied….stick with my 16 or exchange it almost for free

Just swapped my 17 Pro for the blue 17 and I am delighted, it’s all I need, so that’s me set for another year. The pros have always been way more than I needed.

I love how it feels in hand compared to the pro and now it has pro motion it’s the complete phone for me.

Battery seems stellar too, used it a fair bit so far today and with 1hr51 mins sot I’m at 86%!

Mine is coming from Apple. I will be checking for that issue.

Getting max level battery life with my 17! Well happy with how it’s performing!

3hr27 mins SOT and only 26% battery used!

On the contrary, lots of love for the base models. I read that regular 17s have sold extremely well, leading to Apple increasing production. And that is not cutting into Pro/ProMax share (which is a little niche).

On top of that, I think this year's lineup covers all basis with the introduction of Air which is genius.
Nope. No 17 mini…

I'm pretty amazed at the battery life on my 17 so far, and this is coming from a week or so with the Pro. I'm not saying it will outperform the Pro all the time (it really shouldn't given the size difference on the e-sim models). But for my usage, my battery is actually draining slower than the Pro. Not sure why exactly, but I've been super impressed with the battery on this thing so far, even in the first few days of "indexing".

Me too. In my first 24 hours of ownership after set up I charged to 100% and have just hit 8 hrs screen on time and have 21% remaining! Outstanding!

And I don't understand why vs. the Pro I had; unless the Pro is - for lack of a better way of saying it - tuned to run that processor with more power in general day to day activities. 🤷‍♂️

I haven't seen a battery comparison yet where the 17 beats the 17 Pro, but I also don't game, only watch a little video, and mostly do calls, texts, music, and some browsing and general reading. Who knows... definitely not complaining though.

I’m seeing relatively little discussion (here and elsewhere online) about the base model iPhone 17.

Seems like all of the hype and interest are around the Pros and the Air, even though the iPhone 17 has the most compelling overall package among base models in recent memory.
Satisfied people usually just keep silent and enjoying their new 17.

What are people doing regarding screen protectors for the 17’s. With the new glare protection i am hearing a screen protector cancels it out. I really would like not to put one on. In 2 years I had to put on 3. They kept lifting even if Apple store put it on.

I always use a case but I've never bothered with screen protectors on the iPhone. The lip on the case seems to be enough to protect the screen from scratches even when I put it facedown on hard surfaces.
