:rolleyes:That is unusual.

In all Apple Stores that I've been into, no matter what I need, I can get someone to get it. No need for appointment.

Why didn't you approach someone else, say someone at the checkout counter?

How come it's always new users that post these type of things? How come long terms users never experience these things?

Hey now... just because I'm new to being a registered MacRumors forums member doesn't make me a new to Apple or the Apple Store. I've bought three Mac's at that Apple Store in the last two years and I've been an Apple user since the Apple IIe days.

In retrospect I should have stood my ground and not left without my Mac. Like I said though, it's pretty shocking to be told I couldn't buy the Mac I drove all the way to the store to get. There were a total of three employees that witnessed the whole thing and the rest were busy with other customers. I'm going back tonight (with a personal shopping appointment) and I intend to raise a little hell with the store manager when I do.

I worked in electronics retail for a good 6 years before and have never seen anything like that. Thats unreal.

I can understand the "personal shopping assistant" (even though I'm not keen on the idea I understand why some businesses do it) but to refuse your business? Unacceptable. If they have what you want at best buy go there. The associate may not know a ton about mac but they are usually very happy to sell it to you. (At least the one where I live, your milage may vary.)

One thing I will suggest though....Nice complaining customers usually get freebies. Mean complaining customers only get apologies.

I just bought a 24" iMac at the Gateway last Friday and had no problems whatsoever, except the guy was acting like I had no idea what a Mac was and tried to sell me mobile me. I was in and out in less than a half hour, but it was at two in the afternoon. I would go back and complain right to the girl who was so rude, you can probably get some kind of discount or free stuff. They always give me free stuff when I go in there with a problem, on Monday I went to a genius appointment to fix my bluetooth that I messed up when I installed windows and I walked out with a free wired keyboard and mouse :) (I got the wireless with the iMac).

Call Apple store and complain that now you have to wait for the computer if you order it from them and that you wasted you time and gas (or petrol for our UK/Aussie friends.). Chances are that they'll offer you a 10% discount...;)

Good Luck

Thats just plain retarded!

Forget talking to the manager of the store. I't's most likely his or her fault that the employes act and talk that way. Call Apple and tell them. They need to know what is going on out their. Tell them that you would like to receive a call from the district manager for that store.

Tell them that you have posted about your experience here on macrumors. That were all in shock, and we want to know what Apples response is on this behavior.

I my self would never even want a personal shopper, leading me around my Apple store. Unless it was Steve Jobs.:)

I don't know if they do it at all the Apple stores, but the one here in Palo Alto ca. The personal shoppers carry a huge sign around on a big pole with them. That says something like, leave them alone that they are busy with a special costumer.

Please tell us how it goes, when I went to get my MacBook a few days ago, the shopping experience took almost no time at all.

It's shocking that it happened, when you go there complain about all of the fuel you lost, time that could have been spent elsewhere, how inconsiderate it is of Apple, etc.

And make sure you get the number of the district manager if the manager could careless.

Apple Stores can be odd. During the Tax-Free Holiday weekend in GA, I wanted to go in to the Apple Store just to look at some software and they would not let me in the store. I had to wait in line for a personal assistant and state what I intended to purchase beforehand.

So both you and the OP mention being turned away at the door, basically -- the OP also talked to someone "working the door" -- at every Apple store I've ever been to, you walk in, shop around, play with things. I've never heard of there being a "velvet rope" in the front. That's so weird.... I can't imagine how Apple could approve of this policy.

The person that 'works the door' at the SLC Apple Store more or less just stands up front and directs people. I've never actually been refused entry but I heard during the 2002 Winter Olympics they did have to limit entry.

There's always a fire limit on entry, and so every last inch of the store isn't crammed.

But they both explicitly said the store wasn't that busy. And besides, when was the last time you went to a store of any kind and were refused entry because of the fire code limit? Sure, it happens at clubs at one in the morning. I can't think of a time that's ever happened to me during the day at a store. Maybe when the Olympics is in town, yeah, but only in a situation that extreme.

Last time I can remember is Black Friday actually. I got in on the second group.

Not to go too off topic, but anyway, tell us how your it goes ibenick.

MacNazi...meal deal thanks

I can't believe that! Where the hell were you? Apple Mac Rodeo Drive? Peter, Paul, Mary and Joseph... that is unconceivable to me too. I would have said what you thought... "I have money to spend... are you kidding me?"

I've been searching the forums to see about retail or online purchases, which was better... I'm starting to think a direct online apple purchase may be the way to go! And to think... my apple store just opened TODAY... I wonder if they realise people read this stuff and go "I just won't bother!"... ;)

So I went in tonight for my Personal Shopping appointment. I arrived at the Apple Store at 6:00 and within a few minutes a really nice and seemingly knowledgeable guy named Miguel was there to help. I told him I really didn't need help picking a Mac, just getting one rung up so I told him which model I wanted and that I would also like to speak to the store manager.

Before doing anything else he immediately got the manager, Miles, to come over and speak with me. I explained the situation from the previous night when I was denied the purchase of my new Mac. Miles was incredibly apologetic and yet still very articulate and professional with his response. He explained that the situation was handled poorly and that it was a matter of improper training which would be addressed.

Here comes the good part... in addition to my student discount and free iPod Touch that I got with the back to school promo, they also gave me an extra 15% off the entire order! Way to go Apple for seeing a problem and promptly fixing it and then some. I can finally go back to my old fanboy ways... now if only my iPhone would quit dropping calls;)

That is really stupid of them. Any time I've made a major purchase from an Apple store I've been able to walk right in, say what I wanted, and walk right out with my purchase under my arm. But I can totally imagine them doing something stupid like this "personal shopper" thing. It reeks of the kind of pretentious BS that Apple is getting too far into. At least they made up for it after the fact. "Bianca" sounds like a real piece of work.

everyone has been bashing this girl. maybe she was new and made this mistake just once. retraining will prevent this from happening again. gosh, no wonder some people think these forums are unfriendly
