My 2006 Mac Pro benches about 5800. My hackintosh (Core i7-930, not overclocked) hits roughly 9800.

Merely fun tickets. It has paid for itself many many times over.

Fun tickets? I don't get that, but I'm glad your machine has worked out great for you. :)

slughead: are you referring to those 300 people that they're hiring or will be hiring soon?

Fcs ~ G5

Ok, so heres my issue, Ever since FC7 came out, i have been using it on my MBP 2nd Gen, But with the HD work I have been doing, the laptop just isnt cutting it anymore. I need a more powerful system and my G5, although a work of art, will not run the new version of FCS, not to mention the fact that it probably won't be able to handle the NXCAM video that I shoot. It doesn't make much sense to buy the current mac pro. But what really scares me is the lack of mac at WWDC.

Fun tickets are money. My machine, several other non-Macs produce tickets to provide lots of fun. If I were sitting around waiting for the next mp, life would be boring.

I realize you were referring to money, I've just never heard money called fun tickets before and wondered if that was a colloquialism I didn't recognize.

hannahwildcat: even if the machine doesn't get updated soon (or gets updated tomorrow) you might as well buy what you need now. Better to be able to do the work you need to instead of agonizing about your hardware.

What? There's a new MBP coming out? Like new hardware wise or what? I thought the line was already updated like last month or something?

I love that people are bitching and moaning about new hardware not coming out so they can run Final Cut on it, when Final Cut itself is the problem. The multi threading is pathetic within FCP itself, so a minor speed boost on a new machine isn't going to help significantly. It won't be until Apple does a significant update to the SOFTWARE that things will change.

This is VERY true. I bought the new Quad Core iMac from a core2duo iMac, same clock speed and was expecting a 2.5 increase in performance (especially rendering). I then found out FCP is so horribly written that it is pathetic. I don't understand this since Apple has had Quad and Octo core machines out for years now. It is really annoying.

WHAT? geez.
The last update WAS in April.. holy cow!

Most excellent!

OK, so what will be the common thread title when Apple does finally update the MP?

I'm expecting the same crew starting these where is the MP threads to be front and center on the why didn't Apple ........ threads. :p

It doesn't have Book in the title, though.

Okay, that's just STUPID!
I don't even get the point of this thread. It's actually making me paranoid about this whole upgrade situation. I just recently purchased a MBP, and it's a great product, yet people on this thread are craving for more. Like, someone said 8GB of RAM as a standard? Wtf? Get over yourself..

The last update was 2 months ago to the Pro line - and even macrumors recommends that now is a good time to buy the MBPs. What are people talking about. I don't even get what you mean by 'Mac Pro' without the 'book'?

Do you even know what sub-forum you're posting on?
