Guys, they are setting them up in Regent street right now.

NO STOCK

NO Macbook in London today!

Anyone near Covent garden? I rang in and the Apple Store online people said they should be getting some stock around 1PM? Can anyone confirm this?

As per my post above, Regent Street has display models as of this afternoon.

If they have them, I'd bet Covent Garden do too.

Bloody hell, finally!

Complete luck for me, literally still setting up the security wires when I walked in. Crowds of the Apple employees round them all.

They look absolutely fantastic. The keyboard is VERY different. And Space Grey looks very..."Dell", unfortunately.

Go check them out! Back left of the store from where you walk in. Past the £500,000 of watches. ;)

So I'm from the UK but in SF for the week and the staff here, at least, certainly are embarrassed and confused about the situation. They have many demo units, but no stock, and I've been every day and at least one person has told me how they never get told anything, how frustrating it is, etc. and that it pretty much comes down to what the truck delivering stock has on it.

Apple Store employees are about as out of the loop as anyone here, which is sad given how they really want to be good ambassadors for the company (in every case, I've gotten the distinct impression they're complaining because they really care).

I've just spoke to the Apple Store in The Trafford Centre, Manchester who apparently have 1 display unit as of today, no stock.

This excites me.

Just went and had a quick look at them in the Regent Street store (I have one on order). The machine I looked at (space grey, bottom left of picture) was VERY laggy on the OS X UI. Did anybody else notice this?

I'm hoping it's because it was just set up and probably needed a few updates installing, but this has concerned me. I'm not a heavy user at all and this should be perfect for me, but things like that will irk my OCD!

I was there to and posted a a new thread. Yes UI very laggy but the CPU on the monitor wasn't overly loaded so this suggests inefficient code rather than the UI starved of resources by indexing etc

Whether they expect it or not, people are evidently doing it. I put in my order at lunchtime on the 10th and the shipping time was already 4-6 weeks at that point.
Just checked the online store, nearly 2 weeks later, and the shipping is still 4-6 weeks. So the lack of in store display models doesn't appear to be harming the demand vs supply ratio too much.

Bear in mind nobody in Europe has received a unit yet so it may have been 4-6 weeks for the very first order not the fact they've sold millions!

Edinburgh store has at at least 5 demo units which were being set up just after 1pm today. No stock though.

Keyboard was quite strange, keys even lower than expected, but my typing was faultless despite not feeling like it was. Something to get used to...

Well, I went back again after work.

Went in with the mindset of 'I should probably be sensible and get the 13" rMBP'. Came out absolutely 100% set on the rMB.

Bummer. Now I've got a 2 month wait for UK stock... :p

I've an Apple Watch try on appointment tomorrow, which really was the secondary purpose as I've been waiting to see the new MacBook. Going to the metrocentre in Gateshead. I called earlier and they said they would have demo units tomorrow. No stock and none expected yet.

I ordered a base model in silver just as the store came online. No credit card activity yet :(

"You can order online today, sir!"

They've got no idea, but I would expect us to be waiting 1-2 months. Very unfair on the 10/04 orders otherwise.

Yeah I've had that today!! I have been ready to buy as soon as I see one and check its right for me. Is that really too much to ask?!? I know its not much compared to the amount apple make but many want to purchase in store and not wait until June!

Just order online and hopefully you get it sooner than that. People in the US/Canada/Australia/New Zealand have been seeing their orders which weren't due for a few more weeks start shipping or preparing for shipping.

Hopefully this starts happening to other countries including the UK. Would have Expected the UK to be 2nd after the US but I guess I was wrong.

It's a bit odd, I have to admit. I'm just still unsure as to when the product is supposed to be launched in Europe. My definition of 'launch' is not a pre-order.

Never mind. At least I got a play on the Watch - much better looking than I was expecting.

I'm not in any serious rush. It's nothing more than a "nice-to-have". I'll wander in and pick one up in the next couple of months.

Edit: Interestingly, US-style labels (command, control, option, etc.) on the UK keyboards...

I was concerned they'd just shipped some U.S. models over, but the UK versions have £/€ symbols and a larger enter key.

The annoying thing is I've ordered the base model so these in store demo units are exactly what I'm waiting on. There must be more than the 50 or so units they have for in store demos, if only they'd ship the rest of the batch to the UK!

I'm off to the Trafford Centre this morning which I believe has a model?
Not too sure though.

Definitely going to give it a good once over. The performance of the machine isn't what is concerning me as I am a very light laptop user in what I throw at it, but my MBA (original model) is on its last legs, literally and I just need to get rid.

I am more looking forward to hopefully seeing a gold one in the flesh (make sure I've made the right decision :p ) and checking out the keyboard and touch pad.

If I like all of those things, then good. If not, might be a rMBP for me given the price similarities.

I'll post some thoughts later anyway!

What do you mean US style? The currency symbols are euro and pound and the enter key is different from the U.S. style.

I said U.S.-style labels.

In the UK we don't have 'option', or 'command' or 'control' written on our keyboards. It's always 'alt', 'cmd' and 'ctrl'.

I've pulled the trigger.

I'll try it out over a week and see how it goes. My needs are light so it should be fine. I might end up getting a 21.5 retina iMac when they get released.

Been to the Metrocentre store. I didn't play for too long but first impressions are I love it! I picked the right colour (silver) but the keyboard is going to take a bit of getting used to.

I bought a USB-C to USB adapter when I was there. Note these weren't out, the staff member who did my watch try on came with me to the MacBook and got me the adapter from the storeroom.
