I was one of those "gotta have it" every year with the latest BUT recently I came to my senses.
I currently own the Series 5 Apple Watch and I just don't see the advantage of owning the 6 and 7 and I always pay the full price
when purchasing a new apple watch. These small tiny increments from Apple just doesn't sway me to dish out $749.99 for a new stainless steel...hopefully next year we might see a big increase from Apple.

I feel the same, happy with my two S5s and the S6. Unless I come across an S7 model I like at a good price, I won‘t buy one at the moment.
Plus, I really care more about the case material than the tech specs.

I’m using an SE, which is effectively a 4 1/2 I suppose. I like the improvements of the 7 but did not upgrade. But hey, each to their own. Plenty upgraded from a S6 to a S7 and enjoyed that experience. There’s no right or wrong here, personal circumstances aside.

I have a series 5 too and tend to upgrade every 3 years, otherwise I don’t think I’d see enough of a jump in features. I always think those that upgrade every year must find it very boring.

Personally I don’t find it boring to upgrade each series but each to their own.……. What I do find boring is people starting threads because they feel the need to tell everyone why they DONT want to buy something :)

If only Mac Rumours could change that setting that makes it compulsory to respond to threads we find uninteresting and boring :)

In all seriousness though these threads are just as boring as those threads started by people who want to share their latest Apple purchase (that many also have) or those people who track their shipments on preorders lol.

That’s very true …. I’m as guilty as many on occasions getting sucked into the order status threads although I do draw the line at what aircraft my new iPhone is on or what the pilots name is etc. ?

I'm still on the 4. Apps still launch instantly. At this point it would need a blood glucose or blood pressure monitor for me to want to upgrade.
I feel the same. I don’t see any significant improvements from 4 to 7, but I hope next year will be different.

The SE is the perfect watch for most. Basically the latest chip and no need for ECG and blood oxygen monitoring. Heart rate sensor is good enough for most people. Personally, I think AoD is a nice-to-have feature but I can live without it.

I have a 3. It’s pretty slow, and I’d like
To upgrade. If the 7 had glucose monitoring, I’d have done it, but as it is, I’ll keep this one chugging on.

i've had the 5 and now the 6 and both are awesome. no rush for a 7. the health features being bantered about are what i want but with the 6 and 7 they didn't all materialize. so agree no need to upgrade for now. (broke screen on 5 so had to get a 6).

I've been upgrading every other year. I went from S0 to S2 to S4 to S6. Most likely, I'll upgrade to the S8 next year. And trading in my old watch when buying a new one makes the price point much more reasonable.

Wanted to get the s7 but SS is $1100 where I’m at. Sticking with the s6 steel till 8. Which hopefully brings a new cpu and some sensors

This thread is like someone who owns a 40mm watch announcing that they feel no need to ”upgrade” to the 44mm watch because the 40mm has all the same functionality. That’s nice.

Because going from the 44mm to the 45mm watch truly makes the old 44mm watches feel small. If that’s not a big deal to you then… <<< That’s nice >>> Enjoy the smaller watch.

I haven’t seen size talked about here but your wrist size sort of dictates what size Apple Watch you go for usually. Although this forum has dozens of people who wear watches that look too big for them lol. Each time their own.

If you keep buying the same colour and case material options, it’s likely you’ll feel the upgrade from each series not to be worth the price you paid. If you went from say a S5 Alu model to a S7 Ti model, the upgrade is worth it and you will notice a jump in quality immediately.

I have a S4 SS gold for dress and a S5 SS black for everyday. Both work flawlessly and great battery life. Sure, I would like the larger face on the S7 but not enough to get me to upgrade since almost all the functions are the same as what I have.

Happy with my titanium S5 and S6. Both have AC+ for 2 more years so I am just going to keep them as my main watches. The S7 41mm I have will probably just be sold soon as I would rather have titanium and I am not able to convince myself yet to spend a ton of money on S7 titanium.

I was "forced" to upgrade from a S5 SS and I got the S7 SS. It was... well, if no one told me that the screen is bigger, I don't think I would have noticed it. It's basically the same thing, so much so that I decided to return the S7 SS and get the S7 Titanium, at least now I feel like I got something a bit different.

The only "worthy" difference I have noticed, would be the sensor of the S7 use less battery than the S5, so if you track very long workout, the battery drain less. Good for when I do a full day on the bike. (And no, it's not the battery age difference, the S5 was just replaced with a brand new battery).

I got the series 2, then series 4 and upgraded to the series 5 for the ECG coz was able to buy the US version. Realized after that it's totally not worth it to keep upgrading coz most features are only in the US version and there's not much difference between upgrades. Don't even have the fitness app in my country.

I must agree with OP. I also have Nike Series 5 44mm and been playing with the new 45mm at my local Store for maybe 20 minutes. Yes the physical difference is noticeable, the extra 1mm display certainly makes all the interface a bit bigger, and improved AoD brightness is welcome too, but at the same time I didn't feel a dramatic improvements?

Don't get me wrong, Series 7 is an excellent watch and the thinner bezel makes it feel a bit more modern, but only if go from older Watches, maybe Series 4 or even 3? It needs to do a bit more features to entice me for an upgrade. Hopefully Series 8 get something new on the table, such as body temp, glucose monitoring, 2 days battery life, or maybe a full fledged IP68 rating? It'd be an instant buy for me.

The screen is not 1mm larger, but 20%. The watch case is now 1mm larger.

Apple watch are 50m WR, which is much more than the IP68 rating:
  • IP = Ingress Protection
  • 6 = Dust Tight
  • 8 = Survives being submerged in water up to 1.5m deep (normally for 30 minutes)
