"AppleInsider has been told by multiple sources in the Apple retail supply chain gradual improvements in the stock condition across all of Apple retail are expected "shortly," with the iPhone 7 situation clearing up first. A mass infusion of stock is expected in the beginning of October, leading to full shelves by Oct 8."

No word on this since the article dropped. I don't think we'll see much availability of the 7+ JB either as the delay seems to be with manufacturing rather than they are just stuck on a ship somewhere.
 
EEEEEK I DONT THINK ITS A LIE. Stores in my area are getting stock right now. A black 256 was newly added to the options.

One single matte black 256 plus was also added to my area. Couple golds, silvers and rose gold pluses for various carriers in various storage capacities scattered around my area too.

Because Best Buy stated that directly, That doesn't make the statement false. And my Carrier provided a ship date of Mid October. If anything, your statement is anecdotal.

Target's inventory checker is sometimes inaccurate. I've called around to a few only to discover they were marked as in stock, but were being held for people who signed up on their pre-order list.

Others I've called said the inventory checker was plain wrong and they had none.

YMMV, but that was my experience.

Hehe I was there today and attempted to buy it. Didn't have enough $. Now I do though and it's probably gone lol.
