No notification sound on the new iPhone Facebook App

Get this... Both my girlfriend and I are on iOS 6 and I have been getting notifications with light but no sound or vibration for a while, but she was having no problems; we tested to see. I decided we should log out and back in as each other (me on her phone, her on mine) and do some posting. Her phone (which had been fine) pushed notifications for my account, but only with light—no sound or vibrate. My phone (which had the problem before) treated her account the same way: light, but no sound or vibrate.

Here's what's screwed up. Now that we did this little experiment, she's suddenly having the problem on her phone with her account. And I mean immediately after trying this. We tested both phones before and hers was fine, but not any more. So either her logging in as me on her phone spread the problem to her app/phone, or me logging in as her on my phone spread the problem to her Facebook account. No way for us to tell until we find someone willing to swap one account at a time.
 
Have you tried to disable each of them individually and then back on while force closing app after each try?

I noticed a little quirk. Maybe it is just me and my phone. That it only has problems with social apps. Meaning now i have notification problems with instagram, foursquare, twitter, and facebook etc. For twitter for example i had to download tweetbot to get my notifications from tweetbot. For every other social app i use, i get the actually banner. But no sound at all. Any other app that i guess you would not consider a social app works fine. I dont think it is just me though, cause ppl in other forums are reporting problems also with twitter, instagram and other similar apps.

I have the exact problem with twitter too! Has this issue been fixed yet? Tks
 
iPhone notification no sound

I've been reading about this for weeks and trying to fix it as well but only now decided to join a board.

I dont have much developing experience, esp with apple, so forgive me if this is dumb...

But is it possible, especially now that FB is public, that all the sounds are stored within ONE app but the main FB app and all the peripheral apps (messenger, camera) point to the other apps for the sounds? so that it would encourage a user to install ALL the apps or one wouldnt work quite right?

in effect, if FB decided to store all notification sounds within the messenger app but you only installed the FB app... you would never get sound.

Is this a possibility?

I don't think so. I know some users who have iPhones and are getting sounds from notifications. And some like me who aren't. And they only have Facebook installed.

I have all 3 apps installed. I don't get sounds from the full Facebook app but I do get them from the messenger app.
 
I was wondering whether anyone by any chance if anyone was jailbroken and this happened after they went back to stock? The reason i ask is cause i had a 4s that was jailbroken working fine. I broke my jailbreak and installed IOS 5 stock on my phone. I noticed immediately that my phone wasnt receiving sound from notifications from facebook. I upgraded to IOS 6 thinking it would fix it, and nothing. I got an iphone 5 thinking it was the phone. And still nothing. But anyways i have been reading on other forums that ppl on IOS 5 would jailbreak their phone again. Tweak their phone. And restore and run stock of either IOS 5 or 6 and bam it would work again on stock IOS. But unfortunately i cannot jailbreak and tweak my phone, and restore it to stock since now i have an iphone 5. But it is interesting that ppl on IOS 5 are able to jailbreak, tweak, restore to stock and have their phone notifications working again for facebook.
 
Just noticed that today I got the sound from a Facebook check in notification. But later received a comment notification with no sound.

No matter what settings I select.

I am on iOS 5.01, Jailbroken, but it's a recent issue.

Yeah everyone keeps saying it is a facebook issue. But i am beginning to think it is an Apple issue. Cause it happens to several of my apps, such as instagram, facebook, foursquare and others. So i am not sure how it can be a facebook issue if it happens to other apps as well.
 
Probably 3 or 4 days ago is when I first noticed it. Actually saw the screen light up and notification, but no sound and I am wondering how long it really has been doing it. It was a facebook notification. Since then, I have noticed it on just about all of my regular notifications, including iMessage. I will be in the NASIOC app and see the banner, but no sound. I remember a long time ago, probably early september, that it would sometimes do this, and I would get a sound like 5-10 seconds after the banner, but it did come. I actually missed a shift at work yesterday because my boss texted me asking me to come in and I didn't see the text until like 2 hours later when she called. This needs to be bigger on apple radar so they can fix it asap.

No sound from text from me also. I am almost pos since it is effecting so many apps that it is something within the IOS itself. It is if with the problems with notifications maps and other things, as if Apple released an IOS that was buggy. Only to say well you guys tell me whats wrong, and then we will fix it. I dont remember an IOS release being so buggy. The odd thing though is how it also seems to be happening with those running IOS 5 also.
 
The problems with notifications are not related to iOS at all, well possibly but I doubt it. They are most likely bugs in the 3rd party apps. Probably mostly because they have not been fully updated to support iOS 6. As for Facebook it must be a server side issue because I tried installing an older version of the FB app on a fully restored iPad on iOS 6 still had no sounds. If it was just a FB app it would be fixed by installing an older version that worked. I really don't know how to fix the issue with the Facebook app and reporting bugs really does not seem to do a whole lot right now. FB just needs to fix their server issues... IDK why other people are having issues with the stock apps. Everything works just fine for me, iMessage, and Facetime work just fine here.

The only problem with the theory that they are not compatible with IOS6 is the third party apps like instagram, foursquare etc are having the same issues on IOS5 also. So i guess what i am saying is it cant be cause they have not been updated for IOS 6 in that case. Now i am having problems with facebook, instagram, foursquare. As well as text messaging. I have said this before. It seems more like a bug or virus that hits certain users and it spreads to other apps before you know it.
 
Called apple today, they had me restore, and if the problem wasn't fixed, she assumed it was a hardware problem. I doubt it is with this many people experiencing the same thing, but I will probably get a un-scratched phone out of it, so we'll see. I was at work today, so didn't get a chance to see if it was fixed with the restore as I work in a very loud environment anyway.
 
Same problem here. Everything was fine until fb ditched their HTML5 app for a "native" iOS fb app. A fix would be nice

well i am glad to know its not just me that's not getting sound from fb. I turned off notifications and then turned them back on and still got nothing. And this is something that just started recently as in a few days ago. I am on ios5 on iphone 4 Verizon.

I am also jailbroken and on ios5 and this is something that just started recently. and I have the same 3 apps you have listed as well. i wonder what it could possibly be since its not just one group experiencing this. and the fact that this is something that just started.

This is def not a new thing. I havent had sound notifications since before IOS 6 came out. Even before IOS 6 GM came out. It started with facebook, now it is a bunch of different apps. On top of that, my email and text msgs have gone silent. So i doubt it is facebook.
 
This problem began on my iPhone 4 then a fresh new set up of my iPhone 5 it continued. It is also an issue on my iPad 2. The only sound I get from the Facebook app is chat notifications. Everything else is soundless.
